Ladies Short Program (will there be another judging fiasco?)

Well guys, I have been up all night posting the results

Time for me to go to bed.

I will see you all late tonight for the 2nd day of competition. I will prob be on earlier though.

Czisny was not clean, she fell on her triple lutz, and her combo was shaky. Julia was fairly clean. If anything Czisny's scores were way to high. Her presentation as a bit off too.

I wonder why they did not put the 1.0 deduction by her protocals?

What about Bebe did she fall also?

It looked like in the warm up, Yu-na balked on a jump, and I'm wondering if it was a 3/3 attempt? Seeing that made me a bit nervous.. But, I was also thinking that Yu-na hasn't missed a short I think in almost two years, and it's bound to happen sometime. So if she has to make a mistake on the short, better that it be right now. She looked more angry with herself, than upset, and she sounded confident in interviews, and I don't think she'd be that confident if she was missing her 3/3...We will see if she puts in her long.

Huh? Maybe it didn't count as a full fall, but she at least got -3 GOE for that. Trust me, I saw both performance and Julia's was better.

I wasn't jinxing her at all, she did better than my girl Yu-na. Now, I'm nervous for Yu-na's 3/3.

Please, don't be nervous!!!
She always had her 3/3 in her arsenal and I truly deeply think that she just made a mistake. And I think she'll come back strong tomorrow!!

What on earth happened to Fumie Suguri???? :frown:

I've heard reports that Fumie has not been skating well, only has 3 types of triples etc...I think personally, perhaps Fumie's just getting older, and well she just can't jump like she use too. Fumie is a pressure skater, so I don't think it was nerves/choking.

More than likely, the placements after the Short will change after the Long. How many skaters are there who can win both SP and LP in the same competition?

Joe

I think Caroline Zhang could actually win this...I'll admit that I'm not one hundred percent sure of Yu-na and a long, although she's actually done better long programs when people were closer to her last year.

Zhang should be first. Those PCS are way too damn low. If your going to give Zhang high 5s, give Sebestyan high 4s. No Way Sebestyan's presentation is about a point better.

Anyway, Yu Na Kim will win anyway. I think Zhang will stay 2nd and Kostner rarely puts together more than 3-4 triple in the long so I think she'll be 3rd. Good roster here!

Fumie Suguri seems all but over for making another World team. Her best jumps are the toe jumps and she'll never amount decent tech scores anymore since all her lutzes will be negative GOE with that bad flutz even if she's clean.

Tae, did you see Zhang's performance, because over at FSU, people were talking about how Caroline had problems with her edges, didn't hold spins long enough and she was very slow. As I said before, until she saw that she got credit for her 3/3, Caroline did not look happy with her performance. And I thought Julia seemed nice, a bit MAH, but her presentation was okay.

Other than the 3/3, which was iffy, Caroline's performance at Skate America was better. I'm a little worried for Yu-na, but she seems to have a big PC lead over Caroline.

I saw caroline's performance...Lovely as usual but she impressed me more at Skate America. lacking in ecpression here as well as conviction. Her jumps were of same quality: same fluz and underrotated, but here she was graced by the tech specialist (guess bc she has a chinese surname? hopefully not for that...it is clear that the US federation is pushing for her to be in the final).

caroline zhang pcs scores

yes, they do seem a bit low. they should be around 24.00 to 25.00

Honestly, Zhang's pcs are just fine if compared to Kostner's...Ok, the latter was not really super comfident, but still they're too low...

Look at the judging panel: UZB (judge is Russian), RUS, FIN, JPN, HUN, ISR, KOR, ITA, BUL, CHN

Here are the PCS scores in rank order:
27.92 KIM
26.72 KOSTNER
25.80 SEBESTYEN
24.08 POYKIO
23.68 CZISNY
23.56 SUGURI
23.36 ZHANG
21.64 LIANG
20.60 XU
20.28 MARTINOVA
19.52 FANG
18.68 WANG

Only Kim got really high scores. Kostner usually gets scores mostly in the 7s, and here they were all 6s (and she had a good skate).

I think the random selection of the judges played a role here.

First of all, there was no US judge on the panel, even though there were 3 US ladies in the competition. My guess is the ITA judge wasn't randomly selected, but the KOR, FIN, HUN, JPN, RUS and UZB (also Russian) were.
