Jason Brown

Ok, updates! I'm meant to be on a study day, but instead I'm scouring the internet for Jason hints!
Firstly, there's a recent interview with Kaetlyn Osmond up here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMGs-PJWIJ0
The usual questions - but when asked about his goals, Jason (ofc) brings up wanting to land the quad. And he's probably the most passionate I've heard him be about it - he's determined, he says he's doing it every day and he knows he's capable of landing it, and he wants it ratified. He doesn't want to retire having not got it on the protocol sheet. His other goal is to make the olympic team, he wants to be in Beijing. He seems really calm and collected, I hope he can keep this during competition!

His full Olympic Channel interview is also out here -> https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/s...-interview-worlds-figure-skating-champs-2021/

Also, on a Worlds note, there's a youtube video of Nathan running through his SP in practice; it's from an IG live so it's very small, but it looks like Jason could have been on the ice. The camera followed Nathan but I swear I saw the set up for Jason's triple flip (which goes across the ice so is quite recognisable). Fingers crossed for more conclusive footage soon!
That interview with Katilyn was very good! We all have to cheer Jason on to landing that Quad at World's. He's ready!

I saw that, and went back and rewatched, and the guy in red is definitely not Jason! He's wearing black gloves for a start, and I don't think I've ever seen Jason in gloves. Secondly, the guy looks too tall to be Jason and does not have his posture at all. Jason sticks out like a sore thumb when he skates because of his beautiful posture. Thirdly, guy in red bails out of a quad salchow, which Jason would not be doing during his SP practice, and fourthly, when Jason's name and music is called, he doesn't do any of the run through. Therefore, I have deducted that it isn't him and they made a mistake. You can see the run-through here https://www.instagram.com/tv/CMuL-08JrcU/?utm_source=ig_embed
Feel free to disagree, but I am convinced that is not Jason! There's also been no photos of him, as there have been of Vincent and Nathan.

Jason, I know you often miss practices, but why you gotta do me like this? I get nervous😭
We may see him this evening as I believe another men's practice starts in about ten minutes (haven't checked my timezones mind).
Following the news of a positive covid case at the worlds though, who has been isolated and won't participate.... I now desperately want to catch a glimpse of Jason, just to make sure it's not him!

On the one hand ... on the other hand:

AFAIK, unspoken etiquette for competition practice is that even if a skater who is there has no intention of performing a run-thru, he still would move to his starting position before being introduced (and then as soon as his music begins, he can "relax" and do whatever he wants). Plus as the skater's music is finishing, he still would move to his ending position (even if he did not give a run-thru) and then would give a "bow" (or at least a very quick nod).
From what I could see, the person in the red shirt did neither of those things.
At the very least, the tech panel (and referee) would be watching practice sessions. (Probably some judges too.) So there is good reason for a skater to keep up the etiquette, even without a public audience.
(And my expectation of Jason is that he would want to be courteous to the officials who are watching.)
OTOH, if Skater X is not there at all, often the practice-session announcer will not give the normal introduction and instead will use a script along the lines of, "The following time is reserved for Skater X. We now will play his short program music."
Which did not happen either.

Bottom line for me: I feel unsure as to whether the skater in the red shirt at the first practice was Jason or not??

Ashley Cain-Gribble is one of us:)

She is doing an AMA in her IG stories and she was asked who she wants to see skate. She said, her teammates, and then "side note: I could watch @jasonbskates skate all day and any time I get to see him skate live is a plus. 🙌"

We know, Ashley, we know:biggrin:

I stand corrected!

Guy in red shirt is Brezina. He took his loose fitting sweater off at the beginning of Carrillo's music. #nextpuzzle

Thank you.
Does Olympic Channel even realize that it made the mistake today re Jason?
I do not see any correction added to today's blog.
So either Olympic Channel is oblivious to its mistake ... or it is not acknowledging its mistake. 😒
I will make a note to self to take its future reporting with a grain a salt. (Or at least the reporting of Rory Jiwani.)

That said, I guess the Olympic Channel blog is better than nothing.

Go, Jason. :)

I don't know who is actually behind the Olympic Channel live blog, and having read it, it just looks like they're scouring social media for information. It's definitely not an insider. I'm getting exactly the same info but like an hour before it's posted on there just by scrolling the #WorldFigure hashtag.
Anyway, another day that hopefully brings us some Jason content! I imagine we'll definitely see him at practice today, as we're only 48 hours from the short programme!

Although it was clear that Olympic Channel blog was rehashing a lot of external social media and other secondary sources, I would have hoped (without paying super-close attention) that it also would incorporate some bits of original reporting -- but I believe you that it had none at all. (So I guessed wrong with my previous comment of "better than nothing." As time permits, I do find that browsing social media directly is not only informative, but also can be more satisfying in some ways.)

FWIW, I got Rory Jiwani's name from the byline at the top of Monday's blog.
Sanjeev Palar's byline is at the top of the new one for Tuesday.
ETA: And ZK Goh's name subsequently has been added to Tuesday's byline.

(Mar 23)

I don't mean to sound excessively harsh on them. I know that even just compiling and recapping non-original content in real time can be easier said than done.

I'm not one much to analyze jumps or planned content (no kidding:biggrin:), but even I wondered about the 4T listed instead of the 4S we have been seeing Jason practice.

Let's all visualize it on the protocols for Jason:ghug:

It was fun seeing Jason in the stands rooting for Karen. And then again sitting with Karen rooting for Bradie. Karen skated lights out! Jason skates 1st in the last flight tomorrow. Looking forward to that! Good position for him, I think. It doesn't matter much, but he'll be warmed up and not as much time for nerves to kick in or too much thinking.
