Maddie was one of the highlights of the ladies SP for me!! She looked so calm and collected and that 3Lz-3T was a beaut!!

Gutted for MT/M though - and even more gutted for W/M who seemed to get their spin invalidated by Trennt's wobble which seems so unfair! And whatever the deduction was for! I was watching Eurosport and both Chris & Simon were aggrieved by their score. Hope both teams pick themselves up for the Free tomorrow!

Maddie performs to a higher standard not seen in a few years, and on the anniversary of Kaetlyn's 2018 World Championship win. :) This sets up Canada nicely for Beijing and a possible Team medal, when naysayers on GS said for months, THIS would be improbable. Well wonder no more ye of little faith.

I believe they had a music/time violation.

Yassssssss Maddieeeeee!!! :hap10: So happy for her, what a beautiful perfect skate, all positive GOE!!! Her jumps were so effortless, and her speed/expression much improved in such a short time. Such confidence, she really skated like she belonged in the top 10.
Yes, exactly!

no. for 2 spots, placements need to add up to 28 or less (any placement from 16-20 is worth 16 pts). and it's pretty unlikely both teams are going to bomb that hard.
Thanks for this information. I was racking my brains to try to remember how this works. I assume something similar applies to singles. Does anyone who makes the free skate get no more than 16? Is there anything Madeline can do now to get two spots for Canadian ladies?

Yes, the same rules apply in all disciplines. Anyone that makes the free gets max 16pts, and anyone who doesn't make the free gets 18 pts.

If Madeline places top 10, she will get 2 spots for the ladies - Emily gets 18 pts since she didn't qualify for the free, and need 28 or less for 2 spots. Though someone besides her will need to go to Nebelhorn and place high enough to secure the second spot for the Olympics. She will need to be clean and others will have to make mistakes, but it's possible.

Obviously nothing settled until the free, but things generally broke Canada's way in the men's short program. Keegan skated well (that was the most all-business I've seen him in the short in a while, the pressure is obviously high here), and a number of other strong candidates for the top ten had rough outings (Zhou not making the free, especially, is a bit of a shock since I think most of us thought he was a near-certain top ten finisher).
