Subs will only travel when they are called up to replace someone.

I remember Emily Hughes was still in New York (having dinner at a restaurant in fact) when she received the call to replace Michelle at the Olympics in Italy.
I don't even know if a substitute will be allowed now that the bubble is started.

@ Flanker
I don't know how her coaches are feeling now in terms of confidence towards her; but I do believe she has gained a lot of confidence in them.

i'm pretty sure alternates travel for the olympics (don't quote me on that) but i have no idea about worlds. it would make sense to have the first alternate in each discipline travel if something happens last minute.

Sometimes they do for the Olympics. I know that Ashley Wagner went to Korea in 2018, but I also know that Mirai Nagasu, who was first alternate for Sochi, was home with Adam Rippon on her roof watching the games. I don’t know about Worlds though. I don’t think that they do for Grand Prix’s because I think there was one year that Karen Chen withdrew because of injury the day before the competition, but by that time it was too late to send a replacement. But for Worlds it would definitely make sense to have someone travel just in case.

Ashley Wagner went to Pyeongchang yes, but she did not travel there "as the alternate". She was there for media work, which likely means her travel/lodging expenses are not covered by USFS.

Oh, ok. I didn’t know. But I’m pretty sure that she would have had to been ready to skate, should the situation occur

Liza T. was in Gratz last year both as an alternate and as a TV commentator, so looks like the same

I don't think alternates travel unless they're in a team sport and not having an alternate present would require a whole team or group of people to withdraw. In rowing, alternates travel to the Olympics because in anything other than a single, an entire boat of athletes would have to withdraw without a substitute. I know someone who was an alternate for the US women at the 2012 Games.

The spotlight should be on the Worlds' ladies now but Aliona's fan thread comes amongst the top ones every time I refresh the ladies fan section. :ROFLMAO:
Seeing she's so beloved here makes me smile. <3
Figure skating is much more than a number game, even if there are many people who wants it like that.
Good thing is that Aliona not being there there are at least 5 girls I would like to win/medal. :ROFLMAO:

I'm happy for Liza, and also for Anna and Sasha.
Expected more from Rika tough.
But it the end I saw the skates, I saw the scores and I wanna punch the wall so bad! :bang:
Hope this 🤐 season ends soon, and Aliona can turn this into motivation.

What this world's has told me is that Aliona doesn't need the 3A to be competitive on the international stage. She does need it plus a quad to be competitive on the domestic stage though. I hope she gets them so she can go to worlds and Olympics.

I hope of she wins Olympics, she doesn't get distracted for world's 😂
