Coaches' Corner

Makes sense for him to be gone from AoP, from what little we know 3 skaters at AoP stopped working with him and the only other high level skater that I believe was still working with him not only left him but AoP as a whole.
Whose move from TT was worse his or Alionas?

Unless young Sergei is on bad relations with TT he should have gone back there for the Olympic season. He helped several of the girls improve over the last few years and how can EG and SD handle all the coaching duties with DG as the choreographer? They will work work work in hardly ever sleep and rest.

I mean there are like 6 or 7 senior ladies vying for the Olympic team at TT alone and then there are a few super novice and junior girls at TT that I fear are going to be pushed to the side this year with the focus on KV Anna alyona Maya and Dasha in particular. And then Zhenya moves into that pack of super skaters if she's healthy at Test Skates.
Would mention alina too but whenever I do people come in and dump on her so I wont.

Its going to be exciting it's going to be wild it's going to be crazy just at TT alone in the Olympic season but how can 2 coaches and one choreographer handle all that talent and we're not even talking about the guys they have to coach and do choreography for?
That's what I thought if EG took alyona back and Alyona left on worse terms and than young Sergei did then why wouldn't he go back there for 1 or 2 seasons rebuild is coaching status and then go out on his own again? I really feel for the guy. Sasha wont work work with him Veronika and her little sister wouldn't work with him and he brought them to PA before Alyona went there. I don't know how he recovers but I hope he does and has success wherever he goes.

The novice girls in particular have never been the focus of Eteri, Daniil, and Sergei, although to some extent Sergei and Daniil work with them. They also do have at least 3 other coaches - they were working with Kamila, Aliona, Daria, Maiia, Sofia, etc while all 3 coaches were gone to World's.

Really for the novice and junior girls not much is changing at all.

Remember, all of these girls have been there for years. It's not like Aliona wasn't there before.

I also don't see Eteri having Rozanov back at TT. Which is a shame and probably leaves Rozanov with not many options; last year the future looked bright for him, having four brilliant students going with him to another rink, one year later all of them stopped working with him. Of course, we do not know the dinamics between him and the other members at TT and why he was not satisfied enough there to leave and we do not know the terms Plushenko offered him to move at AoP but from the outside I think that if he had waited one more year at TT with the young novice he was training (Akatieva, Zhilina) moving to juniors he could have asked to go with them at competitions and maybe to do choreos for them. With a busy season coming for the seniors next year, I could have seen him taking up more responsabilities with the younger girls and establishing his role even more at TT. Now I don't see him coming back, as far as we know Polina Tsurskaya was hired to work with children at TT (which I'm really happy about, Polina is one of my favourite skaters). All in all, I really wish Rozanov can keep his work at AoP and I also would love to see him work again with the Zhilinas who, IMO, would benefit from an external coach.

In retrospect Zhilinas should still be coached by Rozanov. He should have waited until after the Olympics and with many successes of the ladies he worked with on the senior Junior and novice levels at TT he could have called his own shot as a coach. But he got impatient or maybe was lured away from TT and I don't know how Sergei Rozanov recovers. Now he's going to another country? I find it hard to believe that cska could not use him or a rink in St Petersburg (Rukavicin) knowing how well he works with novice and junior girls.

So are Russians okay with a Russian coach working for foreigners? They're not going to react like Evgenia working with a foreign coach? After all Rika works with Benoit and Rozanov is now joining his team so he'll likely be helping her land her quads. If Rika starts landing her quads consistently and becomes more consistent and Rozanov comes along in the kiss n cry, I dont think Russian are gonna like him. I even remember some Russians being angry at Eteri for coaching Elizabet to a Worlds medal and taking away a silver from a Russian. I'm suprised the Russian fed allowed this. Yes his name is in quite a dump at the moment but outside team tut, he's probably the only one who knows how to make girls land quads and now they've just let him go to Russia biggest threat - Rika.

People, please calm down. Rozanov is coaching at a SUMMER CAMP. That's what the insta post was about. A lot of Russian coaches do that. Team Tut coaches did it, Team Mishin coaches did it. There is no indication of Rozanov leaving AoP or Russia!
Sure, what you wrote is true, but the off season is coming up and we need to have our off season drama ready from now. Haha

Interesting.

Yes young sergei is down in the dumps now. I don't know why sasha alliona and Veronika and a little sister left him like they did. That must be a massive blow to his ego and career. But if he is working with a world class skating like Rika so be it. He is obviously not a traitor.

I do not know why CSKA or a Saint Petersburg club did not bring young Sergei on. We can criticize young sir gay all we want and make fun of him for decision making or whatever but there's no question he helped many skaters while at TT.

Quoting this because my phone doesn’t allow me to spell last names correctly, but honesty, what’s the big deal if he does coach a skater for another country? He is a good coach and if he is being black balled in Russia then he may have no choice but to work with foreign skaters

Given the amount of defections that have happened with Rozanov and his main shining star pupil not only left him but AoP, doesn't speak very much to his coaching ability. He might've gotten himself 'black-balled' in Russia with skaters. Given last season - if you were a young Russian skater wouldn't you think twice about being coached by him?

Per a GoldenSkate article in 2010 so Mishin became involved with coaching her in 2007 which was when she was 11.

Tuktamysheva soon started to attend some national competitions. Four years ago, she went to Belgorod and famous coach Alexei Mishin noticed the girl.

“But at that time her technique was so incomplete and she jumped in such a strange way that I was consulting with my wife and we decided not to invite her in our group,” Mishin recalled. “Three years* ago I saw her again and I observed her unique ability to jump high. Then we decided to take her into our group.”

However, Tuktamysheva didn’t move to St. Petersburg. Instead, the young skater stayed in Glazov with her original coach Svetlana Veretennikova and started to travel on a regular basis to St. Petersburg. Mishin consulted Veretennikova, and a fruitful teamwork began.

“When I saw Lisa in Belgorod, I suggested her coach Svetlana Veretennikova to work together with Lisa. She accepted this suggestion readily,” said Mishin.

“I’m now one to one-and-a-half weeks each month in St. Petersburg,” Tuktamysheva explained. “It is a 27-hour trip by train from Glazov to St. Petersburg. It was hard in the beginning, but now I’m used to it and I’m relaxing on the train.”

Pulling this from the Russian men's thread - so how many skaters and coaches have left AoP? I thought it was advertised to be some fabulous place to be with dream accommodations, but it seems like we hear frequently about people leaving there.

Volkov left because the new school is located in a place that is inconvenient for him and his students. He stayed in Moscow on rented ice when Plushy and crew left. They wanted to stay in Moscow so it was inevitable that he would leave as renting ice in Moscow is not cheap. AFAIK, Plushy did offer Volkov to move to the new school but again it was not conveniently located for Volkov/Kovalev.

There is always some specific reason for every single change and of course when someone makes a change it doesn't mean that he goes to the "hic sunt leones", but the fact is that in just three years about 20 coaches already left Plushenko's school (incl. precisely Volkov, Rozanov, Ilinykch who were the "poster faces") which is definitely not a good recruiting ad. And considering those "skaters left coaches, not Plushenko" statements I think a coach who possibly considers to be employed there might have some reason to reconsider.
