I like Alysa and am rooting for her to do well next season, but the amount of hype and puffery going on in this thread based on some poor-quality footage of a handful of jumps in isolation is kind of . . . over-the-top.
I don't necessarily want to declare her the Olympic gold medalist right now but it's very exciting to suddenly have a US lady who could conceivably medal at the Olympics. Before those videos emerged/Alysa confirmed that her ultra-c elements were restored, we were looking at rooting for a top 10 finish at best... 😬

"poor quality footage" PUH-lease. Who cares if it's grainy if it shows her landing a quadruple lutz

It just bothers me how people who probably have never even set foot on the ice find any excuse they can to disparage Alysa like they know what they're doing, acting like landing a quadruple lutz isn't a big deal.

Except everyone's opinion isn't based on that footage.
I'd like to add that my excitement for Alysa is based on the fact that she is going for, and landing jumps that no other US Women can land. Let's be frank, the US needs a skater like Alysa who's content can match the Russian Ladies. We saw how things went at Worlds. Russia swept the podium and if we're going to have any chance of breaking that strong hold, we need a skater with Alysa's Tech Content.

Unrelated but didn't Alysa land a 4F pre-puberty? Any word on whether she's bringing that back/working on any other quads, or is she sticking to just the 3A and 4lz this season?

You think? '21 Worlds aside, Bradie and Alysa are still officially our top 2 girls, sharing the last 4 national titles. It doesnt rlly make sense to send them to the same GP events, where they might get in each other's way placement wise, unless the fed thinks it's so unlikely that either of them would make the final that they just want to draw the biggest crowd possible for SkAm.
(You probably meant, Bradie and Alysa are *unofficially* our top 2 girls, given Alysa came 4th at nationals this year).

Bradie, as national champion, gets Skate America unless she doesn't want it (unlikely). Now, I'm still learning how the rules for GP assignments go, but Alysa came in 4th at nationals (as close as she, Amber and Karen were in 2-3-4), so I know there's no rule disallowing Alysa to be assigned to SA also. She's also popular, and you cannot tell me that USFS is not going to pin their hopes on her next season. She's not guaranteed another GP assignment because there was no JGPF last year and no Junior Worlds, so given that she needs to start accumulating points for her inaugural international season, she is 100% getting SA. (I have high hopes she will get another assignment though).

What I'm not sure about is whether the US Nationals placements means neither Amber nor Karen could get the third spot as SA. If that rule only applies to Worlds placements, then I'm inclined to think the third spot will go to Amber, as sort of a consolation for not getting picked for Worlds and so everyone can get a good look at her (because Alysa is definitely getting picked for Nebelhorn). If it is true that Amber and Karen can't take that spot if Bradie is assigned, then they'll give it to Mariah.

I believe that since Alysa is only guaranteed one GP spot, USFSA can use a host pick for her second spot.

An ambitious possible gold medal worthy Olympic FS Layout for Alysa:
3A+3T, 4Lz+3T, 3A, 4Lz// 3Lz+1Eu+3S x, 3F x, 3Lo x

I believe this layout is legal, and would technically surpass anything Valieva is capable of doing.
This repeats three jumps (3A, 3T, 4Lz).

Change one of those 3Ts for a 2T and it would be legal while only losing about 3 points.

I had every faith in Alysa restoring her 3A but to see the 4Lz as well is very exciting. It would put her up there with the top Russians girls but I do think it would depend on if she can do two 4Lz as well as three 3A or just one 4Lz. Two should give her a good chance to beat Anna, Kamila and Sasha (can't count her out even if she's inconsistent!) but having one would make it dependent on whether her PCS can rise to Russian levels.

Since she has moved to her new coaching team her skating skills, artistry, and speed have greatly improved.
Yes, and visibly even at USN this year. I'm excited for her and her progress. I've been a huge fan since she won USJrs. I'm excited that she's landing 3a and 4z, finally an American is going for ultra-C. But I was really first impressed with her musicality, dance ability, and her demeanor. Barring anything unexpected, she should be the first on the team. Her not being at the Olympics would be a disservice to the US program. What else does USFS want, you know?
