Predictions?

If Sandhu turns up, he will watch Chan and Buttle making the World team.

 (about sandhu. so true!)

not sure about chan making it big already. he deserves the attention he gets now because he shows a lot of promise in terms of his jumps, etc, but i think it will still take some time.... maybe a year or two. but then again, the only time i saw him skate was at TEB, so i probably don't have a good judging foundation. he might have been having an off day, but from what i saw, he had some major issues with presentation, some of the simpler in-betweens, and during one of his spins he was so slow i was afraid he was going to just slow to an unintended stop at one point!

and something tells me buttle is not ready to give up. he was injured, and he is still fighting his way back. and when he does, he has the artistry to back him up as well.

--------------------------------------------------------

ok, i have to edit my old post about patrick chan because after reading so many posts about how great he was, i was like, "what was i watching??" so i saw his TEB skate again and except for the one spin bauble at the end, he skated great! seriously, i don't know who i was remembering.... you all must excuse me. my brain must be so muddled from watching too many youtube videos that i can't keep the skaters straight. in my defense, i have been studying 12 hours a day of neuro-pharmacology for med school, heh.

PAIRS
1. Aliona SAVCHENKO / Robin SZOLKOWY (no real reason, but my national pride commands me to say that they are going to win)
2. Dan ZHANG / Hao ZHANG (much more likely to win :p)
3. Yuko KAWAGUCHI / Alexander SMIRNOV (well, they are kind of cute)

You are so cute! But both my national pride and The Zhangs' performance in TEB make me believe that they will be the first in Cup of Russia!:)

Men-Weir, Lambiel, Griazev
Ladies- Kim, Nakano, Liang
Pairs- S/S, K/S, Z/Z
Dance- Dom/Shabs, P/B, anyone

Don't forget to enter the Golden State Gold Picks contest.

I am going to win a free subscription to Spotlight on Skating magazine  because I am the only one who picked Fumie Suguri for ladies' champ!

MEN
1. Lambiel (C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!) :banging:
2. Weir
3. Buttle

WOMEN
1. Kim
2. Rochette
3. Nakano

Placements are what I hope will happen and brackets my reasonings.

MEN
1. Buttle (needs to have a clean skate in both short and in long with quad. No tripping over the back of his blades this time.)
2. Lambiel (has to put his heart back into his skating)
3. Weir (probably will have a mental break down and forget to make a jumping pass a combo, probably will spend too much time with the Russian press)

WOMEN
1. Kim
2. Rochette (needs to put in a clean 3 Axel or 4 Salchow to beat Kim and a 3/3 combo (lutz/toe or flip/toe)
3. Nakano (will probably pop a few jumps)

Based on your reasoning, singerskates, it looks as if Buttle and Rochette are not going to win this competition. :sheesh:

Ladies
1.Yuna Kim
2.Yukari Nakano
3.Joannie Rochette

Men
1.Johnny Weir
2.Stephane Lambiel
3.Takahiko Kozuka

Buttle has a habit of not placing well at SC (Mainly in the long program) and coming back strong in later comps. He is one of those skaters who knows how to build himself for worlds. Joannie on the other hand usually comes on strong at her 1st comp and then goes down hill. So I would expect Jeff to be 2nd here and Joannie 3rd based on this. Of course that does depend on how much the judges want to hold Lambiel up!

Ladies: Yu-na Kim, and I wish Joanne Rochette does well to make the podium
Pair: Zhang/Zhang. Wish S/S do well to secure the silver.
Man: don't know, wish Liamiel make a strong comeback and get gold. Wish Buttle and Weir do well to be on the podium. These three could be in any order depending on the performance.
Dance: don't know and don't care that much.

Sandhu

Sandhu wouldn't show up. He has been a way too busy with show circuit I believe.

I know, I know you guys will be surely disappointed not being able to watch him at the Nationals (especially the folks on this forum including Chuckm, Sackie, Slutskayafan). :p:p

Funny thing is, he is doing a way better in shows than in competitions. He doesn't seem to have falls on his jumps, and completes them with smooth running edge. But then, I am comparing apples and oranges, as he is not really attempting harder jumps that have given him so many problems. Maybe, the pressure of competitions has always been getting to him?

I agree about Rochette. She is a good performance/bad performance skater. If she does well in one GP event, then she doesn't do as well in the other.

I don't know about Buttle, though. Some commented worriedly on his performance at the late summer training camp, and thought he would be ready for Skate Canada, but he wasn't. Jeff is using his FS from last season, so it should be jelling better than it has so far. He's 25 now and still having trouble with his jumps. He still has only a 60% success rate with his 3A, and now his 3Z is iffy as well. It's hard to build for Worlds on shaky jump technique.

Goodness gracious!
