Some notable US ladies who will be skating at Skate Milwaukee, the JGP assignments decider, later this week are Emily Zhang (Senior), Ting Cui (Senior), Kanon Smith, Lindsay Thorngren, Isabeau Levito, Mia Kalin, Kate Wang, Clare Seo, and Jessica Lin.

Does Alysa have her ultra jumps back to the point where she could have an outside shot at the Olympic podium? Hoping so and hoping shes through puberty.
Reports are that she is getting her triple Axel under rein. I doubt if she will persist with the quad lutz. Does she have a chance at a medal? Well, she has to make the team first ,but I would say that as long as quads are not allowed in the short program a skater with a solid triple Axel but no quad is in a good position in terms of base value. Alysa also needs to make gains in skating skills, expecially speed, if she wants to catch the Russians, who have no weaknesses.

Since we saw the quad lutz on Instagram, it seems safe to say that Alysa will be attempting it next season. I'd say she needs it for a chance at the Olympic podium. Presumably all 3 girls on the Russian team will be jumping quads. I agree that Alysa definitely needs to skate bigger and faster to truly be on their level, but I'm not holding my breath that she'll get there by next season. She needs the others to make mistakes and that's not what Eteri's skaters are known for - I don't expect her to medal (individually) at the Olympics for that reason. But she could win several other medals along the way, and a top five finish at 15 would still be a great achievement. Not to mention the team medal.

Alysa posted a 4lz on her instagram story, executed during her recent June training in Italy. It might have been "q" or slightly under, but it looked much bigger, in terms of amplitude, distance and speed, than the quads she attempted early last year. What makes you think she's going to abandon the quad?

I hope you are right. A quad Lutz is hard. An alternative to training the quad Lutz would be to gain 100% security on the triple Axel, fleshing out the programs with some nice triple-triples. If Alysa (or Kihira) could count on a solid tripleAxel in the short and two in the long, I think they would be in the mix. The quadsters, though amazing, are far from 100% on quad attempts.

From what I've heard, Alysa is already hitting the 3a totally clean over 90%.

Hopefully 90-100% in practice can relay into clean and landed ones in competition.

Skate Milwaukee will have thirteen women in the junior discipline vying for 14 Junior Grand Prix spots. My guess is that Lindsay Thorngren, Isabeau Levito, Clare Seo, Kanon Smith, and Mia Kalin, based on summer results thus far, will all probably receive two assignments, leaving four for the rest of the field. Then again, the ice is slippery so anything is possible. The event will be live-streamed on Friday (Short) and Saturday (Long).

I’m also very excited to watch Ting and Emily, both of whom are training under the same coach. Emily will be attempting a triple-Axel; she attempted one a few weeks ago but it was deemed a downgrade.

Unless she has really improved her speed and skating skills dramatically she probably will have to be happy to make the Olympic team for now. The Russian girls have the experience and the big elements and reputation that Alysa doesn't have yet as a Senior competitor. Doesn't mean if she keeps improving she won't someday make a World podium i wouldn't put it past her.

Missing from the list: Tamnhi, Herrera and Haley Scott. I wonder if they will have another chance to qualify for the JGP. Who else is missing?

Isn't Audrey Shin in the JGP circuit as well? I'm so confused

No weaknesses? Are you serious? None that are "seen" by the judges apparently, but plenty are there if you want to see them...

Even a 4Lz < has a BV of 9.2. It may not be perfect but based on the score she should still go for it. Even with a deduction of two or three with would still be higher than the only jump that could replace it (2A). A -2 would be 6.9 and a -3 would be 5.75, vs a 2A which would be a 3.3. It’s worth it.
