There have been only 3 events, and the Russians just skated in their first one.
At SVK, the Russians earned gold and silver in Men; gold and bronze in Pairs; silver and bronze in Dance, and swept the podium in Women.

You can expect even better results at Krasnoyarsk, where there are 5 Russian entries in Men, Women and Dance, and 4 in Pairs; furthermore, few countries are sending their top competitors to such a home-loaded event.

Then the Russians will send their top medalists to the remaining events, where they will likely garner more medals and even higher scores.

So whether the JGP is decided by total points or medals, you can bet that most if not all the JGPFinalists will be Russian.
I don't think the discussion was in regards to the Russians, the discussion was based on what barometer would make the most sense to rank skaters: combined total scores or single event scores. My stance is that while combined total scores makes sense, it currently holds little value as there have only been three events thus far. I do not for a second doubt that many Russian skaters will make it to the Junior Grand Prix Final.

This also happened with Michelle Kwan during the 2004 season. She skipped all the Senior B's and the GP. As the defending Champion, she had a bye into Nationals and ended up winning there. If Bradie is healthy and skates well at Nationals, I absolutely see her on the team if she finishes on the Podium. I love Lindsay but, unless she Wins Nationals, I wouldn't put her on the team ahead of Bradie, Karen, or Alysa if they end up as the top 4 Ladies. I'm really on the fence with Mariah these days. I expected big things after her amazing performances at the 2020 Nationals.
I would say if Lindsay can hit a triple axel, AND move the lutz loop to the second half AND improve presentation and speed, she does have a shot. Bradie was 9th at Worlds-not bad and not great-I don't think this finish will help her though for making the team. For Lindsay, I would say the 3A is everything and more.

Outside of Alysa, I don't see any other Lady beating a clean Bradie. This is why her health is such an issue. The longer she's unable to train, the worse things will get for her. I am truly worried.

Is Gracie listed as a Sub for Skate America? At this point, I think the Fed is ready to move on from Gracie. I love her but, she's just not the skater she used to be and she has yet so skate a clean LP this season.
The fed would have to choose from the ISU sub list, which likely includes Starr (only one assignment so far) but possibly not any other American skaters. Does anyone know who is in the pool at this point?

I sometimes forget that Skate America an International event and the US does not select the skaters who attend each event. There's usually a sub list posted with the actual competitors but, I haven't seen it.

I think subs (marked by S) are listed for events in which countries choose their entrants (such as Challengers), but the sub pool is maintained separately for the Grand Prix.

I would assume if alternates were needed (and we don't know for sure that it will be yet), that they would go to Starr first most likely, then maybe Gabby Izzo?

I believe all the spaces for US Skaters at Skate America are considered "host picks", so the normal rules about the international substitution list don't apply. The only restriction I'm aware of is that they can't pick a skater who has skated in a JGP this season.

If there are any other restrictions on host picks, perhaps someone else can post them.

Izzo is far down in world rankings & many international skaters would be ahead of her.

Yes, that's what I was saying - they're the "American" spots, so they would go to American skaters. Thank you.

Who are the healthy skaters that are scheduled to go to Skate America? If Bradie and Amber don't attend, can skaters like Mariah, Karen, or Lindsay be added? They are the next highest scores from Nationals.

No. Mariah and Karen both have 2 GP's already, and Lindsay is ineligible because she competed on the JGP.

Could they send Alysa and have her withdraw from one of her other GPs (ahem Skate Canada)? She'd have a much better chance of medalling at SkAm.....

With the completion of the third stage of the Junior Grand Prix, here is where our junior women stand in terms of highest total scores (US junior women bolded):

1. Veronika Zhilina, 216.92
2. Sofia Muravieva, 208.25
3. Isabeau Levito, 202.35
4. Adeliia Petrosian, 201.21
5. Chaeyeon Kim, 191.46
6. Mariia Zakharova, 190.33
7. Lindsay Thorngren, 181.45
8. Kaiya Ruiter, 179.92
9. Ava Marie Ziegler, 176.29
10. Clare Seo, 174.80

Upcoming assignments:
  • JGP Russia - Kate Wang & Maryn Pierce
  • JGP Slovenia - Lindsay Thorngren & TBD
  • JGP Poland - Clare Seo & TBD
  • JGP Austria - 2 spots TBD
Thus far, Isabeau Levito, Lindsay Thorngren, Clare Seo, Josephine Lee, Mia Kalin, and Ava Marie Ziegler have all competed. With Clare and Lindsay receiving second assignments, I reckon that Isabeau and Ava will probably receive second assignments as well. That leaves two spots. The other prominent junior women that has yet to compete is Kanon Smith.
Kanon Smith has not been assigned to any JGPs. I wonder why.

I'm going to assume Starr, Paige, or Gabby Izzo. We don't know for sure what will happen, though, so there's no sense in worrying about this. If either of them withdraws, then we'll find out then, I suppose!
Things might even get worse as far as Skate America, as the Russians are having huge problems getting a VISA-the update today doesn't sound promising.
