I really enjoyed Phebe Bekker and James Hernandez's debut in Ljubljana at the weekend - very well matched, look pretty strong already and overall really great! I like the old hollywood glamour kind of look they seem to be going for in the FD, I think it works really well for them and they stood out in the field there. Shame about her fall at the end but that was a total fluke anyway so just going to ignore that! I think F/W are going to have some competition on their hands to get the second spot at worlds that I have no doubt will be up for grabs during the next quad!

I’m heartbroken to say that PJ Hallam has announced his retirement on BBC local news Look North: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0010lny (at the 19:00 point).

If you can’t watch he says that he will retire after the World Championships if he is sent and he has decided to retire due to financial struggles of being unfunded.

:(
Oh no🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲. Maybe he will change his mind if we all hit his funding link.

I despair at this country, I really do. Sport is so much more than football, rugby and athletics. If all sports were funded properly, maybe we wouldn't have such an obesity epidemic?

Also, is PJ actually doing triple axels on Legacy 7 or 8s?! Or am I missing something?

Omg! I came on the thread to post this and have read the sad news about PJ. :(:(

What is the point of this?

Now, a few months before Beijing, and who needs help from a Choreographer now? Their programs are all set, at great expense, of those skaters going to Beijing.

If UK Sport had money, why didn't they give it to PJ? Tash and the Fears are well funded.

I've just seen the Look North report, thanks for the link @DSQ PJ doesn't even sound remotely bitter. BIS is based at his rink! They should've found a way to help him more, and also kicked up more of a fuss with the Government during Lockdown and the closure of rinks. It was left to skaters, parents, coaches and fans.

I've tried countless times to record PJ on Look North, and every time it records with no sound. I've checked my settings and YouTube records fine. I sincerely hope this is not a new device the BBC iPlayer is using. Doesn't bode well for the British Championships or those using VPN. :(:palmf:

Finally managed to record with sound after installing the BBCiPlayer app.

Thank you. It’s good to keep these clips for prosperity.

As for the £80,000 five months to late it is frustrating. Especially because it seems to only be going towards those who qualified for Beijing without helping PJ and Zoe & Chris when they were trying to qualify at Nebelhorne. Almost like they purposely waited because they didn’t want to help with qualification.

I really think he’d stick around if he got decent donations. He’s only gotten 1.200 pounds of 5,000 requested.

Skating really isn’t funded well in US either. But better than Britain I expect

Does anyone know if Eurosport will be how we can access the GP from the UK this year? Haven't renewed my subscription yet so I can't see the calendar!

I've Eurosport Player open at the moment for the superbikes, so I checked and, yes, they are showing Skate America on the Player.

https://www.eurosportplayer.com/sport/figure-skating

HOWEVER, you can't take out a subscription for Eurosport Player any more. You have to subscribe to Discovery+ now. And it costs £60 for a year, rather than the £40 that it was for the Eurosport Player.

My current Eurosport Player contract should have been running out on the last day of Skate America. But, because they credited us with extra months because of nothing happening during the first lockdown, it now runs out a few days after the Olympics finish!

So, I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Will they transfer me over before then, or let me see out my contract?

Thanks for info about Eurosport @CaroLiza_fan £60 is alot of money just to watch Skating on a channel. I wonder if the ISU will still geo block UK viewers? Surely Ted's mission to spread the Skating word Free on YouTube to those who haven't got access to it should include kids whose parents can't afford £60?

I expect he would if he could but I will bet a dollar the rights to the Junior Grand Prix are exceedingly cheap and the Senior Grand Prix too expensive to broadcast it for free.

I agree that £60 is a lot for those that are just getting it for one specific thing.

But, it sounds better when you think that for £40 you were only getting the sports content, but for £20 more you are getting the sports content AND all of Discovery's documentary and entertainment content.

And now that Discovery essentially owns WarnerMedia, we may well end up with their movies, children's programmes and the HBO content getting added to Discovery+ at some stage in the future (HBO's deal with Sky runs until 2024). But, if this does happen, I hope that we don't see the price going sky-high. (Pun intended!)

As for the geo-blocking, I would almost guarantee it will remain. Now that the ISU have got the money from Discovery in their pocket, they don't care about whether the fans can actually watch or not. And because they have paid the money for the rights, Discovery won't want people watching elsewhere for free.

Oh, how I wish the EBU hadn't sold Eurosport. If they had held onto it, we might still be able to watch figure skating for free.
