I don't care much about team events (since it's a sum of score with no teamwork or shared efforts), but since it is composed of 8 events I would have have made it mandatory to select 8 different skaters.
Of course accomodation are always a problem in big events so I can understand.

Ah it's more to encourage smaller feds to participate as they may struggle to find an entry who can qualify in all the disciplines.

Alyona The Vampire

I hope Aliona can overcome her struggles... She has all the potentials to become the greatest figure skater ever. It is very sad to see a skater with such qualities struggle.
I think she's too focused on winning so when she makes mistakes she loses motivation to give a good performance. that is very well reflected in her recent pcs score. She should shift her focus/goals from winning to giving good performances. She doesn't have to win the olympics to become one of the great names in the sport.
I hope she doesn't quit skating after the olympics (Regardless of the results she might get there)
She had already said that she didn't mean to stop after these Olympics.
Now with her decision to start immediately higher education, in Physical Education (a bit less time-consuming than Medicine) and to start medical studies only after graduation, I feel she means to skate four more years. This makes me so happy.

I agree with you and the girls would team up in rooms and they have many times it's not an issue. You could have 2 to a room and if it's a hotel suite maybe even 3.

The team event disappoints me because it's so limited. We need more figure skating we need a better team event. We also need some ranking systems that include incorporates a little bit of what golf and tennis have so we don't have people retiring at the age of 21 in certain countries.

Alyona has plenty of time to have an excellent season to be a real threat to everyone at nationals. But she's got a lot of work to do in the next 2 months. It certainly needs to get her short program scoring in the low to mid eighties again that is a must in my opinion to make the Olympic theme.

Yeah, I don't think anyone cares that Yulia is an Olympic champion in a team event.. for Russian it's just a warmup really.. ;)
Yulia cares. Her red dress free skate in the team event was epic. I want AK to get her SP in good enough shape where she can score in the mid eighties in the SP and being considered for the team of that SP. It may be a long shot at this point but there is a chance. She has the wow factor when she's on that is unquestioned.

I am hoping in 4 to 6 weeks aliona has her 3A rolling in the SP and then 2 in the free skate that will put pressure on everybody else. It's a big ask of course but we have to ask for this.

I'm afraid common rooms are already the planned thing yet the Olympic committee invited athletes to stay as little as they could in the village.
This is for Beijing. I don't know how it can be at other Olympics.
I hope Team Russia has planned a rink rental, in 2018 they rented a rink in Japan but there are certainly rinks in Vladivostok. Because FS event spans from 4th to 20th and a Men skater doing the team SP (Feb 4th) and going through individual event (8th and 10th) to the Gala (20th) can have a hard time if he has to go back home in between.

It the trixel comes back stable I could maybe have a reply to my actual biggest question.
I saw the fire in the SP, but did't see even just sparks in the FS.
Was she put off by the bad start? Is it still an unpolished work in progress and she was too insecure to let go and communicate? Or there is no connection between her and her new FS?
I think Aliona as a performer works well with strong emotionsbut I did not have the sensation she felt moved in the first place and was consequently lacking emotions to amplify for the audience.

I think she was put off when she made a mistake it affected her negatively and carried over to her performance in the free. None of the top Russian girls are going to be perfect this season she has to remember that. Alyona has the most stable skills of all of them. If she's on her game. If she can go through 2 skates and hit 2 or 3 triple axyeah 3 triple axles and score in the 235 point range that could win her Grand Prix events a Grand Prix final possibly nationals although the scores will probably be higher certainly it would win Europeans possibly the Olympics and worlds.
Realistically alyona is not close to her best form but she can reach that in the next couple months. She just has to believe in herself again. Everybody lacks confidence sometimes so what she's going through is pretty normal.

I don't know if that's possible. China has been so strict on virus control. I mean look at this so-called Asian Open lol

I think the FS music is so intense and considering her current shape and ability, it's going to be hard to catch the music and create sparkle when she's still fighting the jumps. Not to mention the emptiness of the choreography. Also I personally think there should be a longer music cut portion for the ending. It's just not long enough to create the big-bang moment for the ending.

I was surprised for the reason you said, but they did ask athletes not to remain in the Village when they didn't compete.
There are much less bed slots than athletes and coaches and maybe 3 beds per bedroom. Would athletes be allowed elsewhere in China between competitions? Otherwise they must leave the country.
Anyway Russia is now at a pike of the epidemic, in a few weeks they'll be at a low. In February we don't know.

sorry I might be a little misleading here. I mean it might be hard to rent another rink. There is club owned rink but I don't know they would allow it. TBH the people in charge now are only government people. They have no idea what athletes need for international competition, or they care...

I don’t think so. Sharing a gold medal with a team is more satisfying than a single one. Honestly, Yulia skated both programs beautifully and she gave her everything so she was not in her best shape for the single event when Adelina had more time to rest. I think it was strategic and it paid. Both are olympic champions.

I’m sure she will land her 3A, she needs a little more time and to be more confident.
