Hawayek and Baker Withdraw from 2021 NHK Trophy | U.S. Figure Skating

"Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker have withdrawn from NHK Trophy due to injury, U.S. Figure Skating announced Sunday. NHK Trophy, set for Nov. 11-14, 2021 in Tokyo, is the fourth stop of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.

Hawayek is recovering from a concussion sustained while training earlier this season. The tandem has three Grand Prix Series medals, including gold at 2018 NHK Trophy."

I'm relieved that Kaitlin and Jean-Luc were able to skate their programs at Rostelcom. Their FS is lovely and nuanced and just maybe Tanith is right when she stated that their classically inspired Free Dances are their strength. Here's hoping they rock it at the next competition at Golden Spin.

And so they did! After a second place SP at Golden Spin, Kaitlin and Jean-Luc won the FD yesterday, and won the competition. I'm thrilled for them.

Congrats Kaitlyn and Jean Luc on their 4th? Consecutive bronze at Nationals and their first Olympic team!

Their free dance is one of the bright lights of the season. It's on my list of favourite dances of all time. So very beautiful. I'm thrilled they made the Olympic team. I find them very underrated.

Kaitlyn studies at Penn State. I don't know how these skaters do all these things. She also makes art.

Well I’m somewhat encouraged that so many people (apparently including Tanith) agree that Kaitlyn and Jean Luc are lowballed. I wonder if their scores will increase after H/B retire? Is it a matter of not wanting 3 teams from the same country to be in the top 10?

They did win a GP event when P/C took that year off. Normally that’s kind of a turning point in a career.
