Whoa - Gracie might skate on after Beijing?
If she's coaching and competing on the side, while earning her competitive assignments on merit, I don't see anything wrong with that. However, it will be increasingly hard to qualify for Nationals as she gets older and her technical skills decline (and she already isn't getting assigned to international competitions based on her current domestic results).

Whoa - Gracie might skate on after Beijing? I am curious about funding. But I guess if she really loves skating. Still it is hard to see a world contender fall into the category of not even a pretender

Gracie has a lot of sponsors. She has her Road to Gold Camps and she has whatever income she gets from coaching on the side.

It’s so weird to divide up time into quads between Olympics and base decisions on that when one’s not going to an Olympics.

I have no idea what she intends to do, don’t get me
wrong.

Gracie was a such a great technician in her peak. Maybe she'll go into coaching or become a Tech Caller. Maybe Ice Shows will be back now that the Pandemic is beginning to slow in some areas. I image they'll be popular again after Beijing. It can't be good for her self esteem to place below what she used to. The Junior Ladies coming up will certainly not make it any easier on her.
Ice shows haven’t been much of a thing in years unless one skates in Japan. The days one could make a really good living at it seem to be long gone. I expect it correlates with the decline of skating’s popularity in the US. Gracie is skating at Scott Hamilton’s ice show next month I believe but that’s for charity.

Johnny was commentating at Nationals last year and said based on her practices she was still the best jumper of the US Ladies. Unfortunately she’s not been able to replicate in performances what she’s done in practice.

Well, it was suggested that after her LP at the 2016 Worlds, that she should employ a sports phycologist. I don't know if she ever did but, after all these years, you'd think she's have a handle on her nerves.

Is there any chance for Gracie to get minimum scores at Alpharetta Championship and get advanced to Nationals? Do you think Alpharetta Championship would be the last competition for Gracie?

She will qualify for Nationals if she is top two in Eastern Sections, or top three among those who are not top two in their respective sections, after Championship Series is done. Her score from Leesburg puts her currently in last qualifying spot, pending results from remaining Series events. I don't think there's been any discussion of her career plans if she misses Nationals.

Thank you.

Practice reports from NHK practices coming out!

Alysa: 3A, 2A-3T, 3Lz-1Eu-3F

Still unsure how I feel about the 3Lz+Eu+3F combo since it's very difficult and Alysa struggles with rotation in the second half. I still feel as though she's more likely to rotate a 3Lz+Eu+3S combination.

The 2A-3T combo is also interesting. Could she be switching the 3Lz+3T combo in the second half of her free skate to a 2A+3T? She's struggled with rotating the 3T in the second half all season, so could this be a way of trying to avoid underrotations?

I wasn't expecting to get practice reports but, I sure am happy to see that Alysa and Amber are both looking good. Such a HUGE opportunity for Amber if she can skate well. She doesn't need to Win or even Medal but, if she can break the 200 mark. she adds more weight to her case for a spot on the Olympic Team.

I've almost become more interested in the race for team USA spot 2-3 than anything else. It would make things very interesting if Amber can get above 200 again.

Izzo just scored a 71+ in the SP at Norwood. Perhaps a bit generous, since there wasn’t wonderful flow on the jump landings, but certainly puts her a bit more on the radar.

I thought it was a bit low actually. LOL. BUT, it would have helped if she could put the 3F3L in the second half of the program. Even if she skates lights out at Nationals, she will get hosed by the 'body of work' criteria, however, she is one that should be considered a potential top 5. (She is just is maddeningly inconsistent)

However, Alysa has the highest PB this season of the four. Alysa: 219. Usacheva: 217. Young: 216. Sakamoto: 215.
It all depends on who brings it next weekend.
I will be over the moon if Alysa wins a medal of any color at the NHK event. It's stacked with talent and it will be interesting to see how she places. Especially, if she skates two clean programs.

Maybe not in the picture for Olympic team, but perhaps Four Continents.

It just doesn't make sense for someone like Karen or Mariah (both of whom have lovely double axels) to go for a triple axel when there's far more gain in working to fix their existing underrotation problems.
Not saying I disagree, but it occurs to me that this sounds exactly like what pretty much everybody was saying about Mirai four years ago…

True. However, a well executed 2A-3Toe combo is a high scoring less risky element for skaters with a great 2A
