Alena Kostornaia

She mentioned stamina in an interview after her performance in Finland. Something to the effect that it was very difficult for her to complete the steps and remember the choreography at the end of performances when she is so tired, and will work on choreo. Also mentioned that she was going to be following Eteri's guidance to run at least 40 minutes daily.
I remember that one, if I recall correctly she didn’t mention anything about having problems with remembering choreography or forgetfulness.

I guess our little devil was very busy yesterday. In addition to doing the photoshoot (which took 1 hour total, including hair/makeup), she also got some new tattoos (as nussacker mentioned):

Yep, just Aliona being Aliona...

She also posted some photos from the shoot!

They just keep coming and I can't keep up! :drama:

Was Finlandia not the one where she said "sorry, had to improvise, forgot the WHOLE step sequence" as she was stepping off the ice?

When did she say that? I can’t remember hearing that from her, I always thought these are just assumptions from fans.
At any rate, that's been a constant talking point for her detractors, not her fans.

When you have such a strict training regiment all those personal things get put off and you have to make the most of a day off, lol. Hopefully she’s not letting herself get lost in all the noise.

Perhaps. Maybe she said this after test skates too? I remember some discussion last year about her empty free and there was some discussion then too that she was simply not in good enough shape to complete all the elements. Daniil mentioned this too— “she knows she cannot jump full loads and still have energy at the end”.

For those who like to keep track of such things, Daniil liked them. So tempest in a tea cup over?
Yeah, I can imagine that Aliona deleted that post, 'cause there had already been too many very negative comments about it and when DG's interview came out, she knew that nothing would stop the tsunami of even more overheated negative comments... So I really hope there was no actual drama at all between her and DG (and EG of course) and from now on, after the lovely feeling that this beautiful photoshoot has given her (and us - plus the tattoos ), she can focus 100% on skating. And Daniil, please, no more words about Aliona's training process, personality, health etc. etc. publicly! Let her have that "boring tranquility" finally that she desperately needs now!

Amen…

Aliona posted a comment about Daria's injury on her instagram.
European figure skating champion Alena Kostornaya wrote a post in support of Daria Usacheva, with whom she trains in the same group.
[...]
Athletes are not robots, not machines, they are the same people who can get sick and have some kind of injury.
Elite sports have nothing to do with good health, but this does not mean that an athlete's career should end after an injury, not at all.
I believe that injuries help to understand what exactly you want to do next, so I just want to wish Daria Usacheva a speedy recovery, ”Kostornaya wrote.
Usacheva replied to the post of Kostornaya emoji with a heart.
Sounds pretty pointed!
Good for her for trying to stand up for herself (and for supporting her friend as well, of course).

I think she was trying to send support to Daria while denouncing Z’s comments about it being Daria’s fault she’s injured. It was so sad seeing her carried out of the rink but I’m happy she has the support of her teammates.

Here's Aliona's post where she said "athletes aren't robots" and supported Dasha (it's also the last of her photoshoot pics):

Bravo to Aliona for speaking her mind and supporting her friend and teammate! (y)

But wow, how quickly things change! Two weeks ago at Skate Canada, I was feeling like Aliona had no chance to make the GPF or the Olympic team. Now it'll still be difficult to make the GPF, depending how everything shakes out, but suddenly skaters are dropping like flies and the rhetoric from the Russian FS experts about Aliona has changed dramatically.

I had said that Team Tut wouldn't pay attention to Aliona because they had too many other Olympic contenders, but now things have changed with Sasha and Dasha injured. At the beginning of the week Daniil was critical of Aliona not doing working as hard as she should, and now, voila!, he's liking her IG posts and singing her praises. :rolleye:

GoogleTranslate:
“After I returned from Italy, we practiced for several days. Alena works very well, there are no questions for her. With the mood rolls programs. I really want to believe that she will continue to train just as well in the future.

In a free program with axels, everything is simple. If she makes the first element a triple axel - a double sheepskin coat, then she goes to the second axel. And when you don't do the first element, then going to the same element again is too big a risk for any athlete. If you rip it off again, you won't get anything at all - you will be given a repetition without a cascade, ”said Gleichengauz on the air of Channel One.

Similarly, there was nothing but negativity from the Russian FS experts about Aliona after Skate Canada, and now the tone has changed. TAT is saying that "We know how she skates, we all love her very much," and Yagudin is saying that she should not be discounted.

It seems like the Russian Fed has realized that they might need Aliona after all -- which means we may suddenly see that the "judges' love" has returned to Aliona. On one hand, it's nice that all hope is not lost, but on the other hand, it's all so :palmf::palmf:.

Aliona, I hope that you can continue to train and improve without risking your health!:pray:

I was shocked by Z.'s reproaches to Daria but I never expect anything better from him. I don't understand why he's still in such a team.
I was shocked too by Daniil's belittling Daria's injury, did he have all the info the Fed gave later and if not, why? Or was it an attempt at PR? Is it really necessary for a great coach to be so awkward in PR? Also I felt for Daria in the Insta video because the music felt like a funeral. I'm afraid she'll need a long time to recover because she may grow during her immobilised time but I'm sure she'll come back in a year or two if she has a very good care and rehab.
This being said, last week he liked Alyona's photos IIRC so this is not a U-turn at all!
But I'm disgusted by other commentators' insincerity. Whatever praise they can sing about wonderful Alyona, we can now know what it means. That it is convenient to them at the moment.
I hope though this will clear up things for her. She seems to be a skater who wants to do only successful jumps and it may be her way of securing her well known consistency in them, plus they are really beautiful jumps. I hope she can solve her potential stamina problem too.

Yeah, Daniil liking the photos seemed like an apology. The rest of the commentators are notoriously insincere so I’m not surprised. Just happy she seems to have somehow won back support from the fed.

Yeah I don't believe Daniil has malicious intentions but he's learning the hard way that your words matter when many people are listening lol. You can see his reactions are also more subdued than previously because fans criticised his rinkside manners.

It's starting to look like Russia might need Aliona to be on form now so I hope she's ready to seize the opportunity as an underdog. I can't see her beating Anna but a silver with a big margin would be great.

I don't think IDF's field should be taken for granted though because there's a fair few skaters with 210+ potential. Aliona will have to beat Haein Lee and Wakaba Higuchi who have potential 3As, Kseniia Sinitsyna who potentially has 4T, Yeonjeong Park who almost beat Trusova and Mariah Bell who is a US darling.
