Anna Shcherbakova

Hmmm, the only thing I can think of now that I'm still a bit shocked is that I think they are trying to make her look more mature and get more points from the program. I sure liked the previous one and also the dress better.
Oh gosh, yes, I definitely did like the other dress better. This one rather swallows Anna up, there's just so much of it. From some angles, it looks shapeless on her, which does nothing to enhance the beautiful positions and lines she makes. I also admit to a touch of concern with the chopping and changing of programmes and costumes this season; it reminds me a little of the way Evgenia's FP packaging was changed repeatedly in the 2017-18 season, with the change in programme, and then the alterations to the Anna Karenina dress. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing, but, for me, it doesn't leave me with the same sense of confidence (not sure if this is the right word, am grasping a bit blindly here) that I had in Anna's senior debut season, with programmes that suited her, and were already formed and defined before the first competitions.

Which is not me saying that the change is a bad one, just that it surprises me. I am sure with a few more outings, I will like this programme just fine, and that Anna will master it and imbue it with her musicality and magic touch. But I wouldn't say no to the dress being changed - again!

Also, more photos from the new SP.

I couldn't agree with you more on the dress! I don't really get why DG wanted to change the SP... But Anna is Anna, whatever music/choreo she skates to in whatever costume, she is always amazing! 🥰 Can't wait to see her again tomorrow in the FP!

This is pure speculation, but here goes anyway. I suspect it wasn't just the coaches, but also Anna herself who was not into the old SP (as someone mentioned on RLT, in her interview, so nicely translated here by @Alex Fedorov!, Anna sounded waaaay more excited about the FP than SP). I liked the idea of the old program and its contrast to the FP, but it didn't score all that well. Of course, there are a lot of factors impacting the score, but at the end of the day, I feel the skater needs to be in on the program 100% for it to really work. And since Anna got 78 on a 2-week old program, I'd say she is into this one.

As for the program itself, I think it shows a lot of promise. Sure, Anna was off the beat in a few spots (and I imagine that's why she was so somber afterwards), but when she was on the music, the choreo was 🔥! It reminds me of Bradie Tennell's 2019/20 Kirill Richter (ha!) SP -- also to a challenging, choppy music, but super interesting and engaging when skated right on the beat. As Mark Hanretty mentioned in the ISU stream, Anna packs so many transitions, which I can see working really well for this kind of music, and can't wait to see the next iteration.

P.S. As many mentioned before, I'd also prefer a dress in a lighter color. The music is fairly agnostic in that sense: it could, but need not be the black swan.

Max: [sings] "Oh, what a bliss to know that you are perfect, to know that you are ideal!" (a fragment of a song from an old Soviet movie about Mary Poppins)
Anna: [laughing confusedly] What is it ... Terrible, I'm hot, my heart is beating and my hands are shaking
Max: Okay ...
Anna: I'm less nervous at competitions! Let me go, please!
Max making Anna shy by singing songs about her being perfect! This was so cute! 😂

Anna could wear a dirty burlap bag and skate to a fart machine and she would still make it work, so I'm not bothered by the changes. But I didn't have any issues with the previous SP or dress, so I was not someone clamouring for that change either.

I wonder how long she has trained this program because it didn't have any "uncertain" vibes about it at all like we usually see at Test Skates. Since it's Anna, it could be very new, but it could also not be

Anyway, wishing the absolute best for this sweetheart tomorrow in the Free!

Wow, I am surprised by the reaction here. For me, this is the next masterpiece of Gleik after Swan lake, and I am glad that the lucky one to get it was Anna. At the same time, I can also totally understand why the audience was rather reserved and not so much cheerful as on Aliona's skate, because it took me approx. 20 times to watch the SP until I noticed all of the details. It's so sophisticated, each move has its specific place and is perfectly matched to the music. I cannot see any other skater being able to do this rather than Anna because she has superior natural musicality. I think that the first part until the spin combo is perfect, the transitions in and especially out of the 2A are extremely well thought. She still needs some work on her StepSeq, but here, as I already remarked on her old SP, I do still have the impression that she has the most difficult steps and it is normal for her to take longer time to master it.

I was also a fan of the old SP, but I think there was something missing, and I am glad for the bold change. The new dress is not breathtaking, but at the same time, not ugly. It suits the mood of the SP and black is a good choice. I do believe that they would still do some work on the dress, especially on the skirt because it didn't look finished yet.

EDIT: I would also like to add that this is the first time I realized how dynamic Anna's skating really is. Maybe this choreo also puts some more accent to it, but the only time she is "not using" her arms actively are the cross-overs before her 2 last jumping passes.

Tbh, for me this is the only program of TT this season that screams Olympics and I do hope for Anna to get the chance to show it there! :cheer:

Well done, Anna, on winning GP France, despite the horrible ice and the shocking fall at the start of her programme. Between her mental steeliness and the complexity of her programmes, she came back strong enough to win, even though she was one whole jumping pass down. Really very impressive!

I like Anna’s new short program but she looked a bit tired today. Does anyone think it takes too much out of her for the free the next day? Still so pleased she recovered amazingly and won. Go Anna!
Hard to say if it was the new SP, or taking that fall at the start of the programme and skating with the breath knocked out of her, and perhaps a bit more caution because of the ice conditions. There's a photo in the competition thread of a puddle on the ice in the corner where Anna fell.

Congrats to Anna on the second GP win of the season! Onwards and upwards to GPF! And impressive steely mental strength (as always) to land that 4F after that horrible opening fall that had me clutching my figurative pearls.

I haven't looked at the details yet, but if there was in fact a puddle endangering Anna and all the other skaters it is better I don't know about it

- I'm a little shocked by my performance. My first jump (quadruple lutz) ... I didn't understand what happened. And then, when I skated the rest of the program, I was also not very aware of what was happening. I need to review my rental, see the mistakes.

Seemed like I was being overly stressed here? I disagree. I'm was here charged. I'm was concentrated, maybe that's why it seemed so. I went to the free program full of strength, at the 6-minute warm-up I jumped very well, I was confident in myself. The mistake was knocked out a little, but for me it is very important that after it, despite the fact that I was worried, I completed all the elements. Perhaps now I just didn’t come to my senses a little, ”the Match TV correspondent says to Shcherbakova.

- In order to feel at the maximum, I need to complicate the content. Work more on the quadruple lutz and skate the programs cleanly. Purely perform the elements and convey the image, do not forget about the program, complete the choreography. Today I am not very happy with this side, I could not come to my senses after the first mistake. I thought about it all the skating, could not be distracted
