She looked sad today. Probably unhappy with herself. But I’m sure it’s not her fault. This is the mistake of people who do not know how to make normal ice. In any case, the way to two or even three quads is open.

So I just watched Anna's new SP on NBC's coverage... and personally I think the music is just a bit too fast for her. A lot of the movement is just very jerky. I'm ambivalent over switching as there were issues with the first SP too.

Frankly, I wish Anna would do a new program to the tango music she used when she was a novice.

Otherwise, I would just go the Perfume: The Story of a Murderer music that she used during the 2019-2020 season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcUJLmKwMhI

I don't trust Daniil to choreograph yet another new SP... so I'd just go back to the 2019-2020 SP.

I agree; it's busy, and that makes it less pleasant to watch than a program that wasn't trying to do so much, but there's probably not much to be done about it at this point. She'll polish it, and it'll be fine. I think it would be detrimental to change things again this far into the season, as the Olympics are not that far away now, and we all know that's going to be a cage match between Anna and Kamila, who is chugging along steadily without changes.

This reminds me of 2018 with Evgenia changing programs and costumes during the season while her younger rival was on the rise, but Anna isn't nursing a broken foot, so if she stays healthy, I think she has a real shot at the gold medal. I like her and Kamila about equally well, but this sport is cruel to adult women, especially in Russia where the competition is so intense, so between them, I am pulling for Anna, as mathematically, she has fewer future chances at Olympic gold, and I think that Kamila is sufficiently superior to the current crop of juniors that she can still win in 2026.

I would love to see them all current best girls fight for next Olympics, too, but I wouldn't dare make such an assumption.. ;) I mean, we all know how fast women category progressed after each recent Olympics.. and now maybe Adelia just landing 4Lo can be a hint...

Anna's new SP with commentary from Johnny, Tara and Tanith.

Some comments and “insights” from Johnny and Tara:
  • Johnny was the first outsider to see this program earlier in the week (I assume when he was visiting them in Moscow? but I don’t know so please correct me if I’m wrong)
  • On Tuesday, Anna did 4 run throughs in a row to get milage out of the program, that Johnny saw.
  • Anna says this SP is harder than the old one because this one is much faster (the music?)
  • Tara remarks that one of Anna’s strengths is delivering when it matters in competition.
  • Tara loves the program already, says it fits her so well and that Anna is hitting the musical accents and it looks like she is conducting a symphony
  • They remark that she “skates in the shadows [of her teammates, in practice]” but also notes that she shines when the music and lights are on
  • Anna told Johnny that being the world champion gives her confidence, but defending her RusNats titles were more difficult

This is the first time I have ever agreed with Tara. Lol. Really interesting commentary by them both. Agree it's a fantastic short program for her. The arm movements are beautifully choreographed.
