Free Dance

This person is on my ban list. The reason is simply that all he/she does is look for some dirt where it obviously does not exist. Case in point, the outright lie about what TAT said.
I am far from being sure that the judging being fair here, but I would not go as far as saying that there was some deal again. Just simply for the fact that the winner was determined not by judging panel but by Tech specialist team.

aww...so you think what chuckm said was a lie? That's a bummer...or maybe he just misunderstood the Russian?? Btw, it's funny that TAT would badmouth Olivier and Isabel like that because they had once trained under her, and left her after like a year because they kept getting bad results....Apparently, they left their current coach during the 2001-2002 season because they felt as though she was concentrating too much on Anissina/Peizirat and not giving them enough attention, so they went to the US to train with TAT only to get bad results at the Olympics, so they came back to Muriel just in time for the Worlds that same year and did much better...

Well, I have no idea about what chuckm meant by those comments, all I know is that she never said anything like that.
As per Del/Shoes, she never badmouthed them!!! Just expressing her opinion on lack of the progress in them and not liking this season's outings. She praised all their skills and many of their qualities. I just can not give you the whole transcription of what she said. In fact, she never badmouth any skaters, she is probably the most fair commentator out there, always tries to say something nice about every skater.

I see...Thanks for your comments oxade21. I really wish I knew some Russian so I could understand what TAT was saying...I'm relieved that she doesn't badmouth anyone though, because from what I had read on other threads, I got the sense that she was kinda outspoken...

She is very outspoken and she does tend to have preferences BUT she is harsh to everyone including Russian skaters when they deserve to be, like Kawaguchi at this competition and every female Russian skater out there. And when she makes negative comment it is mostly based on the facts and real-life observations. What I also like about her commenting, she comments on what level each element will eventually get based on the position holds, step counts and other little things you can not understand easily yourself without specialist.

I doubt chuckem understands Russian and intended to lie on purpose. He may just have read other folks' 'translation' from other boards.

TAT is not Godness. She is not without bias. She tends to sugar-coat skaters she prefer. I'm not going to take her words as gospel, especially when it comes to her own country's skaters.

Well, nobody asks you to take her as a God, BUT do not lie about what she says. And if you do not understand the language and hear it from someone else, state so.

Do not listen to chuckem, TAT never said that B/A skated the best, NEVER. She said that she did not like the team at beginning but they improved A LOT in the last two seasons and they are underdogs at this competition and doing well so far. She loves the program this season too. BUT when they finished to skate she stated immediately that Dom/Shabs skated THE BEST tonight!!! She did not like Del/Shoes skate and she does not feel like the team improving as much as they should, especially Shoenfelder.

That's all.

P.S: TAT also stated that V/M is one of her all time favorite team. They are not quite at the elite level yet but they are going in the right direction and she sees them as Olympic Gold medal contenders in the nearest future.

TAT sounds pretty biased to me. Read your post. This is a skating forum not a court of law. A lot of misinformation gets posted no need to call people liars.

Tarasova also advised DomShabs to dump the FD they had already planned (to Schindlers List) and to do the current one. So she is surely not going to criticize their program now, is she? She has a vested interest in this team!

She is therefore not unbiased where DomShabs are concerned, especially not with respect to their FD.

Also what she said about DelShoes is that they are too experienced to be doing such uninventive lifts and that Olivier is the weak member of the team. I thought that was not exactly a kind or complimentary comment from her.

well, maybe Olivier and Isabel are taking it easy for this year? Their FD during the Olympics in 2006 was simply amazing. It was so much better than even their current FD, and I guess they'll just try and up the ante come the time when it must count.

They have yet to win a World medal and they are now 29 and 30. Every competition counts now if they want to be in contention for an Olympic medal.

In the past, they have always had very difficult and challenging programs, but have not quite had the skill to execute them cleanly. The biggest criticism of them has been that they do not relate much to one another when they are skating. I think this FD probably is a real attempt on their part to improve their on-ice relationship, but it has been only partially successful. I think Isabel 'emotes' convincingly, but Olivier still seems somewhat reserved and remote.

Yeah. I'm still hoping that they'll get to medal. I believe they can do it.

:agree: the masquerade! if only they didn't get 7th on CD.....by the way what happened torino CD....i have no clue why they got 7th....

anyone notice my screen name and signature?
1795...the year of the masquerade....the signature...the naration during the glove part...<3
that is in figure skating history! genius...
wonder why they dont use their "signature move" in their program...maybe a waste of time..lol

Yeah. I'm still hoping that they'll get to medal. I believe they can do it.

Funny thing: Tatiana Tarasova was a commentator on Russian TV during the GP. After Tanith and Ben finished skating (they were the last to skate) she said "Belbin and Agosto skated the best tonight". She apparently thought they had skated the best, and that they had won the gold medal.

It is simpy not true. She did not say it, at least not after FP. She said exactly the opposite. That DS skate better.

I do not believe the judging was unfair, but I do think that if the random selection was different, the result would have been different as well. It is clear that not all the judges thought that DomShabs' FD was the best. In fact, 5 of the 9 judges thought a team other than DomShabs was best in the FD, and 4 of those 5 placed DomShabs 3rd or lower. 6 of the 9 judges placed B/A first or second in the FD, in both PCS and GOE.

DomShabs lucked out with the random selection at the GPF. But they were far from a unanimous choice.
good point..
and what would you think TAT on russian television would say???

So chuckm, were you just mistaken? Because given the fact that "It can't be denied that Tarasova is very, very knowledgeable when it comes to figure skating and she was a well-respected ice dance coach as well", it seems TAT saying DomShabs skated the best undermines arguments about a judging konspiracy.
.please...Tarasova would always support domshabs .providing they had a fair skate..its also interesting that when thanking people she said thanks to the Russian judge for a job well done.all i am saying she is very much a part of the Russian machinery:agree:
on another point i was very happy to see a few more people in the arena last night.

domnina is a wonderful skater, perhaps one of the best female ice dancers in a while, but maksim isn't as good as her. he isn't even as good as some of the tier-2 male ice dancers (like andrew poje or fabian bourzat). she still does most of the work when they're not in a lift, a spin, or a footwork sequence.

speaking of the footwork sequence, he is still painfully slower than her. to the point when you're watching them from the judges' angle, you can see she is ahead. in the video that is posted, you can see it from that angle, too.

at least she no longer looks like a wedding cake being devoured by severus snape.

Maxim had a inflammation in his left knee and was bothering him during competition, that could explain what happened with twizzles in OD. health wise maxim had a terrible with two operation in last six months. I am glad he is still doing so well.

I only read, and rarely post on this forum for the last several years….. but I have to say:

This comment is a blunt lie and a thinly veiled attempt at provocation against Russians, for which “chuckm” is well know for years and years beyond this discussion board.

There are two reasons why it should be called a “lie and a provocation”:

- This can NOT be a translation mistake because not such sentences and no such word-sequences existed in TAT’s comments during B/A’s performance.

- Chuckm is a known “Russia hater” and he/she starts yelling “fowl” weeks before the competition takes place. While fan-level knowledgeable in skating, chuckm manages to use “the knowledge” to put down “all Russian” and to elevate “all North American”… and when there is “no North American to elevate”, then “any-one-who-is competition to the Russians”.

This is what TAT said during B/A’s performance. (I am a 46 year old native Russian speaker).

-Before B/A’s skating, earlier in the programme TAT said: “Ice dancing is the icing on the cake (the high-light) of any figure skating championship”.

- “The competition tonight is very fearce (scores are close, teams are high-level)”.

- When B/A came out on ice TAT said: “I like the programme (choreo/music), I like the outfits”.

- Few minutes into the programme TAT said: “This is the first season (year) where Tanith is starting to show an ability “to sense/to express” the music. Before she came off as cold (not-sensitive)”.

- After the first twizzle-seq TAT said: “Our team (D/S) executed twizzles better”.

- After the lift-seq TAT said: “Level 4. No questions here….. “

- After parallel footwork seq TAT said: “The sequence is fitted in well with the music”…….. few seconds after “The twizzles were not THAT great”.

- …..2 seconds after….. “He (Agosto) is losing his back (loosing good posture). Must be tired after the foot-work.”

- …. 2 seconds before the programme ends: “Our team (D/S) skated stronger”.

…….. long pose from commenting on the programme……

- As B/A are skating off the ice, TAT said: “I’ll repeat that I like the programme”…(but)….. “They fizzled out towards the end” (lost the “momentum/intensity” towards the end).

That is WHAT TAT said.:agree:
