They serve on the panels at the pleasure of Giaquinta and the head of the Technical committee, who of course is Russian. If these judges didn't support the Russian skaters, they wouldn't be getting as many assignments as they do.

Actually, there is a reasonable chance the the next U.S. president will be a Mormon. Please, make sure your next president is Catholic.... US needs "pagentry" and "pizzazz" in daily life, and on stage....![]()
Those who are laughing at Dom/Shas' costumes are only showing their ignorance of historic and literary facts:
“Ball Maskarad” is a play written by the famous Russian poet Michail Lermontov, during the first half of 19th century.

Lermontov’s play “Maskarad” in 1941 was made into a rather famous, till this very day, movie of the same name, to which Khachetourian has written “that famous” piece of music.
The plot of the play is similar to “Othello”. At a Masquarade ball, a Wealthy Nobleman is unsuspectingly faced with a case of mistaken identity and is lead to believe that his young innocent wife is unfaithful. The end is deadly.

The proper costume for “Nina” the leading lady, given the “time” and the “movie” is as following (foto-cut from the movie).

The “leading men” in this play were supposed to be dressed for a Masked Ball a-la Venetian style, and to represent “famous military, political or romantic heroes”.
and here is costume drawings used recently for the modern theater production of “Maskarad”.

(But for the life of me, I don’t know of any “images” or “moods” created by Chopin, nor of any of his lovers, including George Sand, which gave a slightest hint that a female character performing to “Chopin’s music” might be sporting a “K-Mart Toothpaste Smile” called "show all the 32" and moving about the ice with an eagerness of a cheer-leader who discovered “classics” only yesterday and by accident.)

If Domnina and Shabalin are truly great at not only dance but expressing the music, then I and other audience members should not be scratching our heads wondering what the heck they portrayed, and instead should be saying, "I get it."
Unfortunately, before we can arrive there, Shabalin needs to up the ante. I understand he's been derailed because of his two surgeries this year, but his skating during the GPF was not, and will never be worthy of the gold medal they were gifted for Christmas last weekend. And don't b*tch at me for saying they were gifted a Christmas gift so early, when clearly, Russians celebrate Christmas on January 7. It was a gift, plain and simple.
Vesyoloye Rozhdyestvo!
Well, we got your point. Dom/Shab are two idiots who know nothing about ice dancing and so are 100s of skating professionals who persistently put them among the top world dance teams. And this comes form someone who spend his life on internet board whining and bitching and never achieved him/herself anything in his life even remotely close to people who he is spitting on. Well, good luck to you on hating them, cause they are there and they are for long time.
Judges got the dance. If you can not get it, that's your problem.

Yes they are there and because of such a judging there will be more and more FS events with almost no public...Let them win their gifted gold medals at empty arenas![]()

I LOVE DelShoes Piano FD! I know that it's not really a fan favorite but I love the way they express the music and they story. The sign language parts just really add to it for me.
What this all boils down to is I just cannot get into their skating. There have been many non-American teams that I've preferred over American teams (many of them have been Russian/Former Soviet), but I just cannot get into this team, and it goes beyond the story they portray--they are a poorly matched pair. Maybe this is how dance is "supposed to be"--where the man is just the frame of the woman, but he is a poor frame for this beautiful picture. Of course, that was once said about the great Christopher Dean, but at this moment, they did not deserve the gift they were given. Hopefully he'll improve. Soon.
So long post aside, before you go judging the other posters on this board, consider that we're here to talk about skating, not about one another's lives. I'm not going to list what I've accomplished in my short 26.9 years. We'll be here all day.

This to me is the first FD of theirs where I can feel them relating to one another. This one really is a dance where two people are communicating with one another, rather than fighting each other, which they've often done in the past. This is (and I'm not asserting that it should be everyone's) my favourite free dance of the season thus far.I agree with you both!!!! I just love DelShoes program. Technically it's not the best, but it's the most perfect program where I do feel the two people communicating with each other and expressing the music best. I actually do see however why Dom/Sha won. While they leave me cold with their practical manners and technically-oriented programs, they do their job really well, and I guess in the current world of iceskating that's what manners the most--getting the business done. And I do agree that Oksana is a very good skater. She kind of reminds me of Shae-Lynn Bourne.
Well, if you do not like them personally say so without responding with condescending attitude to someone who tried to give you some background on what those skaters try to portray. If you don't get it, your loss.
I don't mind someone not liking something, but the way you putting it sounds like this team does not deserve any of the success they achieved. The team brings the most technically challenging program and deliver them with huge GOE as reported not by just few judges but every judge and technical specialist. You want to see another rendition of Krylova's waltz??? Well, go back to 80s. This is different times, different rules, different demands.
For a person of your age you sound too categorical and sure of yourself. And I could not care less about what you achieved in your life. Judging by your posts not much.
Every team, among the top 6 this season, has something great about them and something to work on. You wanna make an insightful and serious analysis, then compare them to each other not to a dance team from the 80s.

Domnina will probably go down in history as one of the best female ice dancers. She is far better than Tanith--like you said, a lot like Shae-Lynn, and she kinda reminds me also of Albena Denkova, and when she improves further, she'll be like Maia Usova, the goddess (IMHO) of WORLD (not just Russian) ice dance.
Well, we can't make Agosto and Shabalin swap each other's partners? Can we!!! And this could be applied to Shoenfelder and Virtue as the weakest links in those teams. One of the reasons Del/Shoes are having hard time winning (besides apparent judges dislikes) is that they always tend to make mistakes that are really costly when it matters. And most of the time Shoenfelder is the one to blame. Moir I believe is THE BEST male ice dancer, but paired with a very uncharismatic and bleak partner.
So as you can see it is not just Dom/Shabs is the only team where one partner is better then the other.
I see your case about Olivier, but I'm a bit curious to see why you call Tessa Virtue the weak link of the team? I actually like the team and thought they were equals of each other in terms of their technique and artistry.....Whereas in the case of Belbin/Agosto, Del/Shoen and Dom/Shab, you can clearly see who the weaker partner is...
