But seriously Mariah has just written herself in as a contender no longer pretender for Beijing. Mariah, Bradie if well, Karen, Lindsay and maybe Amber are fighting for two spots after the Queen Alyssa. Though I think Amber could close that door if she skates poorly at Golden Spin.
I was hoping Mariah having to wait until the final GPs would be in her benefit, in that the other American contenders just haven't met the challenge this season. And now she is in optimum position to place well and be seriously in contention for an Olympic spot. I've preferred her skating over Karen and Amber by far this GP season. I'm glad to see Mariah get herself together. I really think she'll make the team if she's clean(ish). I'd rather see Mariah get it than an upcoming Thornton whose skating just does nothing for me, and even her attempts at ultra jumps are nowhere close.

If Amber bombs again at GoldenSpin, I just don't see how she could convince the Selection Committee to name her to the Oly Team even if she has a competitive result at USN. Amber just tends to bomb. Every year. Much of the time. I was really hoping she'd lay it down this season with consistent performances, but she's just skating consistently inconsistently for her.

Alysa has been staying over 200 which is miles ahead of everyone else when it comes to consistency, but otherwise we don't have another consistent woman in the US right now. I can't think of anyone else I'd bump Amber for based on her body of work this season, even if she performs poorly at Golden Spin. It would be pretty amazing if the Golden Spin scores are inflated such that Amber somehow manages to top 217 and secure an Olympic spot with that plus a 4th or 5th place finish at Nationals.

This is why I see Golden Spin as a big opportunity for Amber. If she lands her 3/3 Again, and breaks the 200 mark, it should put her squarely in the hunt for the Olympic Team. Along with Alysa and Lindsay, she has a solid 3/3 that she's had for the last 2 seasons.

If it works out that Alysa, Mariah, and Amber make the team it'll be exciting because it'll be their first Olympics. I think each of them have an interesting brand that will entice viewers to tune in.
Karen and Bradie already had their chance to shine at the 2018 Olympics ladies event and they did not. So if they don't get chosen it'll be sad for them but at least they've had an Olympics. Especially Bradie who got a team medal medal out of it.

I think most are all in agreement and probably Amber if she bombs Golden Spin it is over for her on the body of work. THere are two spots open. I guess if she win but even then you know Mariah and Karen are both far more complete skaters and Lyndsay is the hope of the future and Bradie is usually very solid. Amber brings nothing unless she can land the 3A consistently. She does not have the pcs or reputation of say Mirai even without her 3A.

You're talking about two different things. Body of work, which is what is taken into account, doesn't strongly favor Mariah or Karen as each has topped 200 once this season (like Amber). If any of the three do poorly at Nationals, she will have more bad results than good this season. Whether one is more complete than the others is irrelevant if she can't post scores that match her talent. Lindsay and Bradie could also get picked if they medal at Nationals for the reasons you mentioned. If selecting among those 5, I expect body of work will be ignored and the USFSA will go with the top 2 finishers in that group. I think fans of the other women are threated by Amber and looking for her to get knocked out of contention before Nationals, and I don't think it's going to happen :)

Yes, it really comes down to a top 3 finish at Nationals for everyone other than Alysa who can finish in the top 5 and still fit selection criteria. What I would say is that the US fed isn't above manipulating scores at Nationals to send the skater the want. They did it in 2018 by giving some skaters a PCS Nationals boost at Nationals and not giving any PCS boost to others. I think both Karen and Mariah are favorites of the US fed and will be pushed ( if it's possible) at Nationals. Amber won't get this favorable judging, so she will have to skate her best if she wants to be put on the team.

As much as I love Gracie and admire her perserverence, the USFSA can't just throw out it's selection criteria to put her on the Olympic team with one strong performance at Nationals (assuming she could even somehow obtain a qualifying score). I hope she continues to build on her previous event and posts strong scores so she can compete in international events if she decides to continue beyond Beijing.

I surely hope she continues. I can’t imagine she has put in all this work to be Senior Ladies Gold Medalist in Alpharetta, Georgia. (But if she was happy to retire with that I would 100% support her).

Amber glenn currently in 2nd place with a 64+ behind gubanova's 65+ at Golden Spin of Zagreb. She and coach didn't look happy in the kiss-and-cry, the coach was even lying down at an angle on the couch like he'd had it, but maybe I'm reading into it too much.

Gabriella izzo at 62 points, I believe. Not sure about Harrell.

What actually bothered me more than the score was the fact that she still looked injured. Why is Amber trying to perform through injury? It's a really bad strategy. She managed to land an UR 3A but then only did a 3-2 and she looked like she was in pain. This competition was not necessary. Why did she go?

Not to worry, Ambers not injured. Shes got new boots she’s still breaking in, so they are still real stiff.

I certainly hope Amber is 100% (not injured) and wish her a fantastic free. I'm glad she got a 3A in even if UR.
But why the 3A in a competition she could very likely win without it? Is Amber doing this so she can win this challenger or quite possibly impress people heading in to nationals in January where she will need her 3A to make the Olympic team?

AMBER  Underscored here and I don't love her going back to this program, but that 3A is a statement and hopefully it's here to stay!
A lot of people thought Amber was underscored and the scoring was harsh in general. I just wish the judging was the same from week to week and season to season either be harsh with everybody or generous with everybody but it's always a nonsensical m

These athletes fly around the world in the midst of an International pandemic or now an endemic or whatever the hell it is and I hate to see them and their hard work get tainted by unjust low scores. There is just too much at stake for these judges to be so harsh.

With her 3A Amber has the highest scoring free skate potential in this event so she still has a great chance to win it. Maybe only Nastya can challenge her. If Amber lands her 3A even an imperfect 3A I would think it's gold. She also sets a good example for someone like Nastya that you can come into your own in your early twenties and you don't have to be at your best by 15 or 16. I also hope someone like Alysa can can see the big picture and be here 4 or 5 years from now.

It appears she was hoping to go into Nationals with a landed 3axel in competition this season, which she has yet to do. Let's just see how she composes herself tomorrow. I didn't think she looked completely healthy, but apparently it's the new boots. The ones she will be competing in at USNationals. Maybe psychologically she'll get to Nationals knowing she landed an UR 3a when the boots were stiff and not good, so now she'll be in a much better position? Who knows, whatever works for her.

I think Amber's single carrot 3A is a win for her.

Karen and Mariah have not attempted any 3A this season. And Amber scored about what Mariah did for a 2A... so it is solid enough to not be a loss, and looks better on paper.

Karen and Mariah are also doing 3-2s lately. So even the 3-2 is really no worse than her main competitors.

So long as her free is competent... i think she may very well of put herself back in the mix with them.

Amber hasn't been trying a 3A in her FS, is there any reason to assume she will here?
