2021–22 Canadian Figure Skating

Maddie has to get through her newbie year. And then she must work on a FS with two 3zs and two 3fs---a more robust TES will help boost the PCS as well.

Sp glad that Messing won here and that J/R won the free. But it seems like we only have one top skater/team in each discipline, and as we have seen in this and other events they can falter. Messing should have easily won medals in his GP events and J/R would have won here except for the error in the short. Which has me wondering what will happen at worlds this year. Could it be that CAN will drop back to 1 man. 1 women. 1 Pair and 2 Dance teams for next year. I like Maddie and think she is the one for CAN but when you look at the PCS some skaters get for doing less, and the # of ladies doing 3As and 4s - Maddie will be hard pressed to make the top 12 even with 2 good skates.

Maddie would need to make the top 10 anyways... so for a while, do not expect Canada to get more than one woman at worlds. Regarding pairs, it's pretty difficult to drop to 1 pair only... Even at their worst outing, I bet both canadian pairs at worlds would get the 28 and less points required to keep sending two pairs. Men : crap shoot like always... but I doubt that none of our men would make the free skate, and once you are in the free, with two contenders, it's much harder to drop out from 2 to 1 than it is to gain a second or third team. Dance : A lot of teams will retire... FBS and LALA will probably not get under 13 points to retain 3 spots.

My theory on world spots is that usually, if we cannot earn them, we do not deserve them there have been some bad lucks, especially with men, but in general, it is what it is. Why would we send 2 or even 3 women when the top ten is filled with the much more advanced Russians, Koreans, Japanese and Americans?

Regarding low PCS scoring for Maddie but also J/R : I agree. Some skaters do less and get more. I feel that in general, our skaters get rewarded, but it takes longer than some others.

yeah the men event was bad luck that year... SIGH... but i hope this is not going to happen again.. at this point, keegan and even roman, if he gets sent, do have a better pcs cushion.....

Somehow you have to hope Piper and Paul medal; maybe Keegan takes advantage of retirements come worlds? Maddie will need time and experience. The pairs - there was hope in both Eric and Vanessa and KMT M - but maybe Eric and Vanessa need more time - they make huge errors and miss elements while Canada's national champs seem to be regressing. Both teams need that je ne sais quoi even if it is Kristin regaining her fight and feist. So much was promised about Eric and Vanessa but I don't see what is so different about them artistically from the rest. The chemistry isn't there like she had with her former partner but Trennt and Evelyn haven't produced so those two teams still look good for the olympics. I just don't see how they can win a team medal and it is possible they not even make the team finals if disaster strikes.

The qualified member participants for the Olympic Team Event have been confirmed.
P.s: We all know that Canada really needs a miracle to get that Olympic Team Bronze Medal cause no chance to defense the 2018 title now. After all, just chilling and waiting for the upcoming days are fine! (Anyway, I'm rooting for G/P to win the individual Bronze too.)

Sorry but just not see Canada even in the running for the Bronze in the team event. Think they will be lucky to make the final and probably end up in 5th place with RUS, USA, JPN, and GEO above them. Unless all of our skaters have their best outings and some of the others falter. The team event is hard to predict because politics seem to come into play big time in this event. I remember at the last Olympics Gabby had under-rotated jumps while Mirai did not. And for most the the season it was the other way around.

While I agree that Canada is likely not going to win a medal I don’t see Georgia being ahead, especially since it seems they are sending Alina and not Anastasia for women.

I believe a team medal is possible and will cheer as hard as I can though I know it will take everything needed to achieve this... at the same time, it may be the best shot at a medal (even for Piper and Paul) for the Canadian figure skating crew so perhaps Canada should focus on the team event and not even think about the individual events that much...

Most likely Madeline. We haven’t seen Kaiya in competition for almost a year, and Gabrielle hasn’t been very consistent
