in any case, it will be difficult for Anna to win, hardly easier than a year ago. But I want to believe that you are right.

I don't think its been easy to place top 3 at senior Nationals for the ladies for the last few years. The only Olympic team contender that would surprise me if she won Nationals would be Tuktamysheva because she has such a BV disadvantage. In terms of Shcherbakova, the girl has done it three times in a row seemingly each year with worse odds than the last to win it but yet she has managed to succeed, will she do it again IDK but she's earned the reputation that no one should be shocked if she did.

My prediction is that Anna will win Nationals. She always wins when everyone believe she'll be second. Kamila, whom I adore, is tough but this time is for real. she's human, young and while I presume they've been preparing her mentally for months, pressuring herself to be perfect in such vital competition may make her wobble. the 4T's are rock solid, i'm not 100% sure about the 3ax and perhaps the 4sal. Anna will surely comes out as the lioness she is and may throw a perfect 4lz and 4flip, with a perfect skate over all. At last Nats she was astonishing while being ill, imagine what she can be while healthy.
Tuk vs Tru, I predict close scores which will lead to testing both of them in January.
It's different this time. Now everyone considers Anna as a favorite, and her place in the national team is unconditional. So she's not a dark horse anymore.

strictly speaking, she was not a dark horse. But for some unknown reason, she was very rarely remembered. However, this trend continues to this day. Everyone seems to know that there is such Anna Shcherbakova, who has already won three times in the Russian championship, became the world champion, won at the stages of the Grand Prix - but in the center of various discussions there are almost always other names. This is an interesting feature.

It is not easy to gossip about level headed individuals who have fairly won such competitions without any manner of scandal or drama. She keeps her head down and does what needs to be done. Such reliability doesn’t generate clickbait.

I love both Sasha & Liza & hate the fact that for some reason there needs to be a competition exactly between them & Scherbakova is like 100% set in stone to go :palmf: Ofc Im a realist & thats how the things are going.
Interesting take pova.

If a 3 time defending national champion and current world champion is not set in stone then something is wrong. Every time Anna skates in the same event with Liza she's finished well ahead of her.

Where was Liza in those 3 nationals that Anna won? Liza even finished behind Nugumanova last Russian nationals.

When was the last time Liza was on the podium at Russian nationals? It's her one event where she struggles. I don't think that will happen this year because her form is really good. I expect Liza makes the podium especially without Sofia there. But she will have to beat out sasha to make the podium.

We don't know what's going to happen. I wish them all well and good health. The pressure will be immense.

Love this post, since it gives me inspiration to praise Anna. Not that I need help.

Praising Anna should be required for everyone posting here. A world champion deserves world championship level praise. Haha

Reason #3000 why she is awesome. Skates to win and doesn’t care about post likes or everyone talking about her.

Head down, work hard, plow ahead, beat the odds, stay in the background, never quit, no drama.

Never count Anna out!

Whew, praising Anna is a pressure situation. Since it has to meet her high standards. Gotta triple check to make sure there are no spelling errors. Haha

So, the status of the participants at Russian Nationals right now is:

7 skaters will return:
Anna Shcherbakova, Kamila Valieva, Alexandra Trusova, Maiia Khromykh, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Sofia Samodurova, Anastasiia Guliakova

2 skaters will make a comeback:
Kseniia Sinitsyna, Valeria Shulskaya

9 skaters are newcomers:
Sofia Muravieva, Adelia Petrosian, Anastasia Zinina, Sofia Samodelkina, Veronika Yametova, Anastasia Morozova, Veronika Peterimova, Ksenia Gushchina, Polina Sviridenko

10 skaters from last year we won't see:
Daria Usacheva, Elizaveta Nugumanova, Ksenia Tsibinova, Maria Talalaikina, Anna Frolova, Stanislava Molchanova, Anastasia Tarakanova, Arina Onishchenko, Stanislava Konstantinova, Valeria Kostina - they will all be missed

And we wont see Alëna Kostornaia either as she is out again this year.

It's quite a line-up, half of the field are newbies.

With Talalaikina out, who will be providing the poisoned apples now?Haha

As sad as unfortunate as the injuries are, at least we get all 3 Devils of Mishin at the Championships.

Holy lord, check out this promo video for nationals. Awesome.
Whoever produced this gem needs to have their wages tripled.

maybe it's petty but it bothers me that they didn't show their faces in the same order that they showed their childhood performances. so for now, i will give them double.

Yeah, adult Liza went first. Actually made it better.

Ok, so let’s meet in the middle and say 2 and a half. Haha

oh i totally understand it. Even with a meltdown she's going to Olys I dont have any illusions. It was basically a post of desperation from me:biggrin: AS is like the most overrated skater ever to me
...for me too. there is nothing in her skating that captures the heart. though, she truly is hard workingut but it is not enough to be unforgetabble or universally loved skater.
