Alena Kostornaia

I tought the same :ROFLMAO:
Really, her figure is more womanly compared to '19.
It is even visible in the new dresses cut.

The world will never be ready for Aliona, she will always find a way to surprise it :devilish:

I'm defintely good cook, and I'm really curious about what she did make and how she could destroy the kitchen without "incident".
Guess I will never know.

I can really get spoiled with all these video, I appreciate the chance to see her so free to express herself and know more of her, but she belongs on the ice. I hope she gets well fast.
I imagine something like some rather liquid dough dropping behind the cooker because she's clumsy with just one hand, and her parents didn't see it until the morrow?

Here's another recent interview with Dasha Pavlyuchenko where she talks about Aliona. :giggle:

GoogleTranslate:
- 8. How are you similar to Alena Kostornaya? Is she your best friend?
- We are somewhat similar, somewhat different. It's very cool to spend time with Alena, because she always jokes, it's fun with her. I am always worried about Alena and am sick. The main thing is that she is happy and that everything works out for her, that everything that she wanted is realized. And I will support her in any situation. I do not like the expression "best friend", she is just very close to me.
I guess they're not "best friends" after all, just very very close friends...

I've also been struggling to put thoughts and feelings into words. I'm so sad that Aliona is injured and that she won't have the chance to skate her best at Nationals or the Olympics, and it makes me angry that she's gone through so much the last couple years... the universe just won't give her a break! And I'm still angry with Daniil for the comments he made in the past, but so proud of Aliona for speaking up in Daria Usacheva's defense when she was being blamed for her injury in a similarly cruel and demeaning way. I'm glad that she seems to be in decent spirits and intends to keep competing over the next quad, I desperately want her to bounce back from this in a big way and prove all the haters wrong. Our girl is so, so strong and above all I believe in her ability to keep fighting and keep showing her passion in every way.
Who is blaming Dasha for her injury? It's figure skating and skaters are going to get injured and not just the girls at TT.

I agree with your sentiment and the comments from Danil have been unnecessary even outrageous on more than one occasion.
I'm surprised EG never shut that down. She and Sergei never say anything neither should DG. I guess they think they're motivating Aliona that way.

I am torn whether I want aleona to stay or go after this season. I want her to skate well and clean next season so if that means she doesn't have her triple axel back yet the way she wants so be it.

IIRC it was that Zheleyazhnyakov, their awful dance coach. He has alway something ugly and mean to say. Daniil can have "a foot in the mouth" but not to this level.

They both have foot in mouth disease and the great coach needs to tell them to STHU.
I have no problem with the foot in their mouth.
The problems start when they take it out.

To be honest I think either Daniil is very naive or the traslations make it sound more naive than he is.
The declaration by the dance coach about Dasha, if not massively mistranslated, was not only rude and insensitive but also a declaration of incompetence reflecting on the whole team in communicating with the girls and understanding their fitness status.
I hope Eteri had a talk with him.

Do not take claims about claims seriously.

She needs to clamp down on those two goofs. I don't want Aliona or any of the girls to become verbal punching bags by these two guys and then the great coach says absolutely nothing.

What did the Z man say about Dasha?

Aliona will skate beautifully again!

I don't think Alyona or anybody is a verbal punching ball with Daniil.
I'm not sure it's relevant here to say what Z said about Dasha's injury? Basically he pretended it was her fault. Now we know she had been injured since weeks and it had been 2 weeks before NHK that she hadn't jumped. This adds a layer about his insensitiveness, to say the least.

Of course she will! I hope this year, I'd be so happy if she skated this early and/or late Spring. And anyway next season. I hope she keeps her Short.

Those comments are very insensitive especially after a girl sees her season going down the drain.

I think alyona will keep her SP and perfect it for next season so she can get back to scoring great is scoring great in the shorty.

Well, here's some more praise from Aliona from an unexpected source -- Gabriella Papadakis' mom!

MatchTV did an interview with Catherine Papadakis (Gabby's mom), and even though most of the interview was about Gabby and Guillaume, the headline they chose to use was this

"KOSTORNAYA IS THE ONLY RUSSIAN [SINGLES SKATER] WHO HAS SUNK INTO THE SOUL." CONFESSIONS OF THE FRENCH CHAMPION'S MOM

(GoogleTranslate)

I have often speculated that Anastasia Panina (one of the other journalists) is a secret Kosto-fan, but now I'm wondering if the entire staff are Kosto-fans!! 🤔 (Don't forget that Polina Astapova, the amateur photographer who did Aliona's amazing B&W photosession, also works at MatchTV!)
Either that, or they just chose the statement that is probably the most controversial/provocative and will get the most views...

And this is what she had to say (via GoogleTranslate):
- Who do you like from the Russian figure skaters?

- Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin - I have known them for a long time, because they competed with Gabriela in the same warm-up at the junior stages of the Grand Prix. I have also observed Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov for many years. Your girls change so quickly that I don't have time to remember their names. As soon as I get used to one girl, a new leader appears in a year. The only Russian single skater who has sunk into my soul is Alena Kostornaya. I saw her enchanting victory at the Grand Prix final in Turin a couple of years ago. How good she was! Of the boys, I don't really know anyone, I don't see much couples either. But I remember Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov very well - they impressed me at the Olympic Games in Sochi.

Nice to know that Gabby's mom is a fan of our girl! 🥰
And I agree, she's the only one of the recent Russian ladies who has "sunk into my soul" as well!

But more seriously, it is amazing to me to see the huge difference between how Aliona is viewed in Russia by the domestic skating "experts" (who are more than happy to throw her under the bus) versus how Aliona is viewed abroad (where she seems to have a lot of fans). o_O

Let's not forget though, that Russian older "experts" have grown under a totalitarian regime and some may have got there the habit of hailing to the skies the person anointed by the powers that be and to throw less favoured ones under the bus. It was terrible. To give an example, a student loved two of his teachers, two very great ballerinas and teachers who were from the same school of ballet and who hated each other. He dug into archives and found out that at a moment during Stalinian Thirties, their common professor, a great and revered person, had started to be denigrated and everybody knew that this meant she would soon be indicted for bogus crimes and sent to Gulag and that her friends were at risk too. One of these two ballerinas was coerced into writing a letter, not really accusatory of her former professor but saying she was past her times (maybe hoping they would allow her to retire peacefully) while the other stood for her (and I rather believe, had relationships with powerful people) and managed her to stay in her job.
Most people, as soon as someone seemed out of fashion with the powers that be, would throw their stone because it could save their own lives. I'm afraid some of them retained this habit after thirty years of free speech.
And their statements have nothing to do with their real opinion, even less so with truth.
Sorry if this was out of topic.

Hello there fellow Kosto-fans and lurkers!

I had mentioned earlier about how Aliona seems to have a lot of fans among the non-Russian commentators, and now I'm looking for a few videos -- do any of you happen to have these?
1) Aliona's FS from 2018 Junior Worlds with CBC (Kurt Browning) commentary
This used to be on YouTube but seems to have been removed. :(

2) Aliona's EX from 2018 JGP Final with CBC commentary (Kurt Browning and Carol Lane)
This one is on the CBC website, but you need to be in Canada/have a Canadian IP address to access it...

Thanks in advance!!

Winter is coming! And RusNats, unfortunately not as exciting as they could have been...
