Ahhhh I am so glad - he really fought for each and every point! His competitive spirit is just amazing. Landing 4Lo, 4S and 4F on that ankle, under all the pressure - not a small feat! Shoma belongs to fight for the top placements in the world and he showed that here. I'm so immensely proud of him! Now please rest up Shoma and heal your ankle so we can see you in top form again 💜💜

I was shouting at him to tag +2T onto the 4T. He lost so many points from +REP.
Well done shoma

Glad to see I wasn't the only nutbar shouting at him. lol. Come hell or high water he was not going to lose to Yuma if I had anything to say about it. Now the important part - getting that ankle back in shape. Shoma and Yuzu, the ankle brothers. Get healthy and stay healthy.

The Kiss and Cry video is great. Stepen talks about the step sequence and says "Push! I want to see the fire." Shoma looks at him as if to say "Fire?! I'm glad I made it through alive." They are a dynamite team. So glad they'll be at the Olys together!!!
🔥

I really love this Kwan's words (At Nagano, we really wanted her to win! And I never forget at Saltlake Olympics Gala, she skated with Field of Gold with the gold costume, having full tears in her eyes...)

And the competition of JPNat was definitely magnificent. The competition cannot be done alone. Skaters through hard times really had the passion, the joy of skating. And seeing talents really makes me happy.

Are you going to US Nationals? Send my vibe to US!! I just hope all skaters stay healthy, can achieve their performances... (Yeah, it is really tough Nationals at Olympic years...Sometimes very heartbreaking..)
There were so many memorable Michelle Kwan moments. Oh yes, the Field of Gold brought lots of tears.

Yes, I leave for Nats on Jan. 5. Looking forward to it. Just like in Japan and Russia this weekend, I know there will be some broken hearts. I'm the most emotionally invested in pairs. That discipline will be a pressure cooker.

Thank you for the videos, guys! My stream was not having a great time during his FS, and I didn't get to see the whole program.

Shoma looks so tired! He was talking about pain on the twisted ankle there, wasn't he? Is it the left ankle? I did notice how bendy his left ankle was for the 4F in the SP. Like I've never seen such deliberate inside edge on a Flip.

Stepen was very supportive in the K&C, and someone need to make a gif out of the "squeeze" and whatever squat turn thing he was demonstrating.

And what did Shoma say that made Stepen facepalm and both of them laughing?

i hope to see shoma skate a clean and healthy version of this bolero. actually, all he was missing here is to do the 4t combo on the first attempt... if we assume he would have done that, the second quad toe would not be +REP so just one jumping pass error :) costly though (about 15 points or so for the combo and the +REP) His three opening quads were great.
He fell on the first 4T, so combo there was not possible. The 2nd one is where he could have tacked on a combo. I thought he had enough control in the landing for a +1T addon.

5 quad program is very ambitious, but doable.... but backloading all 3 combos is too much I think, and I'm hoping they move one of the combo to the beginning. Put the combo on one of the 4L/4S/4F - whichever had the most stable landing. Literally 0.42 BV difference for backloading the +3T.

my point was that he missed mostly only ONE jumping pass as the 2nd quad toe was fine... though of course, because of the missed attempt, not doing a 2t penalized both passes.

with the current layout : someone may correct me on this, but i don't think his plan is to do all the combos at the end... i think that he probably missed a 3t at the back of the first 3a...
there is no way he is going to plan for combos on the 3 first quads.. they are tricky jumps

i believe this would be the planned content... and i trust he can do it

4loop
4sal
4flip
3a-3t
4t-2t
4t
3a EU 3f

They need to do some strategizing to maximize his points. You don't get extra points for killing yourself. And don't play Nathan's game. If he does 5 quads, that doesn't mean everyone else should. What happened to the 3S-3T he used to do. Tack a 2T onto a 3A. Here's my previous post. He should get Meagan Duhamel to help him!

3A (8.0) + 3T (4.2) = 12.2 4F (11.0) + 2T (1.3) = 12.3. If he could get the 3T, it would be 15.2. Pretty ambitious if he's doing this on tired legs. Sigh. I think I'd try for the 3A + 3T. It's a numbers game.

yup.... i think the plan is 3a-3t but he didn't have an easy landing on it this time around.

Shoma.... dear, dear Shoma.

The way it happened, the Olympic qualification felt inevitable, but I think we all know the long and winding road that was the last four years for him. Congratulations on your 4th Nationals silver medal (and 8th Nationals medal overall), and qualifying for the second Olympics.

Beyond this being the Olympic season (and therefore stakes are higher), it's been such a pleasure to watch the way Shoma competes this season. I'm happy to see him feeling happy about his skates and being able to smile despite making mistakes, but this season reminds me of how thrilling it is to see him locked in a tight fight for placements- here with Yuma and back in Skate America with Nathan. Maybe not the most expressive performances of the season, but he's such a fighter until the very last second. Every single point was hard-earned. And Stephane still wanting him to push for more at the end because he knows and believes Shoma can do better just made my day even better- love this partnership so much.

His trainer, Demi-san, posted a long blog post including info about his ankle injury, hopefully anyone can help translate?:)

At the very end I thought Sho said "Ganbatta" which means "I did my best", but I.didn't understand why they were laughing about that.

Just thinking -- any word on whether he will skate at Medalist on Ice? He will have a lot of disappointed fans if he doesn't.

Hi! @rabidline, this is demizu-san's translation

-----------------------

It was ninth Nationals for me thanks to skaters. Every year there are a lot of dramas.

It was 2nd time in Saitama Super Arena since 2013 as a trainer of Takahito Kozuka (Olympic Selection). I recall the anger and experience make me what I am today.

I got a phone call 4 days before going to Nationals. I told him what to do immediately, and said, 'I will come to you tomorrow early in the morning. We want to heal it early and have the competition'.

Luckily, his heel fibula ligament was light, and his bone contusion was not serious. They usually take 2-3 weeks to get recovered.

This year, his shoes are soft, so there is a risk from the beginning. Thanks to the continuous training 3 times in a week to utilize the power of his ankles and feet fingers, he could avoid the serious situation. Continuation works!

The strong will of the skater to want to have the competition makes incredible healing possible.

As a result, he got 2nd, and Beijing Olympics.

I really realized the strong will is important.

Thank you very much for sharing your translation, @hamaguri :pray::pray::pray:

Really grateful that Shoma has Demizu-san with him.

I can't believe Shoma actually skated in the gala...🤦 He looked pretty cool while skating, though! He only did a couple of double jumps to the Michael Jackson program with a Bolero encore. He said something like that the condition of his injury wasn't very good, but that he wanted to rest and show his best condition in Beijing...

Just saw this on Twitter that Sho's injury is a rupture of the Calcaneo fibular ligament, bone contusion. When I tried to translate that from English to English, sounds like an ankle sprain. :scratch2: Rest up Masama! Emma chan is anxious to assist with healing and therapy!!!

I am hoping for an Oly scene similar to this one! it seems that 🌳 is more excited than Masama!

this time, Fuji TV uploads again and again new videos!

This is the video when Olympic members were notified by JSF between skaters. (Official announcement and interviews were from 11 PM (1 hours extended..), before that, the members of Olympics, Worlds, 4cc, Jr.World were announced to the skaters.
It seems some of you find it interesting to have suits in the time of draw (I did not recognize it since it is natural in Nationals, but yeah, it is wired!). But at the notification skaters had training wear, Japan wear..

And about 4CC, at the interview right after FS, Shoma said something like, 'I don't know which is next cometition though, I will do my best'. And at the notification, JSF clearly stated about the policy of 4CC. " In order to avoid the risk of covid, Olympic members won't be sent to 4CC'.

So Shoma would go to 4CC if he was elected, but it did not occur. The next competition is Olympics.

And it seems tomorrow there will be a meeting for members, so he can go back to home after that?
