Kamila for the short with the fabulous 3A.

Sasha going mental in the free with her zillion quads. Hard to beat the base value alone.
After Nationals, I think this could be a possibility. It would probably benefit Sasha to have an Olympic outing trying quads before her individual event. Additionally, I worry if Kamila becomes the star of the team event she will suffer from the same pressure Julia L faced afterwards.

Completely agree!!!

Plus Sasha and her crazy quads will add additional interest that will take some of the pressure off Kamila. Medals for both so it will be win/win.

The women's free skate was the 7th highest rated show in Russia for the week. For the first hour it was actually beat in the ratings by another show but more people watched women's free skate than watched Putin's year end press conference which is a big event. If I'm interpreting the numbers right, it amounts to about 6 million viewers with about 14 million at least watched for at least a minute.

The same rating in the US would also amount to about 14 million viewers. The only non-Olympic women's event that would beat that number in the US is the Women's World Cup Final which is every 4 years. But even just looking at raw viewers, it's likely that slightly more people watched the Russian women's figure skating qualifier for the 2022 Olympics than watched the US women's gymnastics qualifier for the 2020 Olympics which had 5.75 million viewers.

When you look at 18-54 then it falls down to 34th but the show that beat them for the first hour fell down to 54th. That shows that both the figure skating and general television audience trends older.

I remember there being talk about her not having an official coach at the time. I think she was skating at CSKA but without real guidance. Anyway, I don‘t remember that part, so it might be wrong. But I am certain that she was rejected by Eteri after a trial because she talked about it in an interview this season.

Yes. Because she was the third best senior here. I disagree with her beating the juniors because I think all three did better on everything other than the IN and PE parts of the components scores (meaning, jump difficulty and execution, spins, steps, skating skills).

But if it‘s between her and Liza, which it was, she‘s clearly ahead. Anna was overscored alright but Liza herself received seriously overinflated marks - especially in PCS. And she completely bombed the SP, too. Anna may not be my favorite skater but she is consistent and reliable and deserves to be on the Olympic team.

No. That‘s not how it works. Countries have a selected number of spots and that‘s it. There‘s no scenario in which Russia will send four skaters to compete in the women‘s event in Beijing.

That strategy makes no sense. Why would they let anyone but Kamila do the short if she‘s the only one with a reliable 3A? Not to mention the fact that she‘s the best bet for an individual OGM, so they won‘t want to tire her out by having her do the FS with her insane technical content. Also, Anna’s SP hasn’t been as consistent as Kamila’s this season, even without the 3A. She’s made mistakes on her combination more than once. As for the rest — after winning Silver at Nationals Sasha is, for now, the number two in the Russian team. Anna can reclaim that place at the Europeans but we’ll have to wait and see. A lot can change in a month - or did anyone expect Sasha to end up ahead of Anna heading into Nationals? I certainly didn‘t.
I always expect Trusova to win. 😅

What are you talking about? Liza landed her 3-3 combo clean in all 3 SP internationally this season. Why are you using Nationals as a parametre for what she has done earlier this season? It is really unfair, considering that Anna actually had combo issues in 2 of 3 SP this season internationally.
Well she obviously couldn't produce one when it counted the most. And yes, she always struggled with her 3-3 in the past seasons, hence her low bv besides 3a

Sonia has a golden opportunity to prove herself at Junior Nationals and then possibly Junior worlds although two or three fantastic girls are going to get squeezed out of that competition because of the Stone age rule that says you're only allowed three for discipline. That's my biggest problem with the sport. Can you imagine the number seven ranked tennis player in the world not playing Wimbledon because he has three countrymen in front of him in the rankings? There should be more rewards in figure skating on the Junior and senior level and if you dominate The Grand Prix seasons on Junior and senior tour's you should get at least an extra spot in that discipline. It won't have any negative effect on the sport it won't stop Liechtenstein from sending a skater to the Olympics. Where is Liza in the world standing like three or four? And she's not in the Olympics? That's not good for the sport.

Russia probably has the top 6 junior girls in the world probably eight of the top nine and on seniors they have the top five six or seven in the world probably eight of the top nine and I don't mean world standing I mean on what we say and what the scores are. All I'm saying is that there should be more reward for greatness and dominance in a discipline and there is they can do it easily without crushing the smaller countries sending skaters two major competitions.

I agree on your take on Liza and Anna and how you would have had no problem of the three Juniors finishing but in front of both of them. You are very fair to both Liza and Anna.

I do think Sasha is in the number three position and she can move ahead of Anna at Europeans and become a real threat to KV. I just don't think beating Anna for the first time in 3 years should automatically LeapFrog her ahead of Anna on the national team. But if you're of the thinking that what happened at Nationals is everything then I guess Sasha could be number two.

RVs European and Olympic girls and guys vaccinated? If they are not there's a real chance they May test positive at some point for a coronavirus and blow their opportunity. Although vaccinated people can test positive as well it's certainly less likely. That's why I say Liza and any alternate in any discipline should skate and practice like they're going to the Olympics because they just might be this is not a normal Olympic season.

KV in the SP and Sasha in the free with her BV is certainly a possibility as well. But Anna is going to score over 80 points most likely and her short program and KV probably 180 + if she's relatively clean. No other country can match with the Russian ladies do no matter who gets what skate. I do not want KV to get both skates because I remember Yulia getting worn out in 2014 at home although some of that was the pressure and interference from the media. She had nothing left for the individual event.

At this point if we get a Europeans and Olympics and the world's in I will be very happy. It can happen but it's not definite look how Japan just got serious all of a sudden and canceled gpf a couple weeks after having NHK there.

When is Junior Nationals?

I wonder how Sofia A will handle not skating for over 3 months before Junior Nationals.
She has more Challengers then we would have imagined 3 months ago.

I can't wait to see Veronika again. It's been a long time for her as well.

Whit all the love and respect for Liza, any hipotesys of her being selected over an healty Anna is ridiculous.
SHe had the chance offered by an under par Anna and she failed to catch.
Forget Anna scoring because is not so important: It was Liza's moment to shine adn make the choice difficult and the result was both the worst SP and FS of the season while Shasha did raise to the challenge.
Being the one in charge to select the team I would have no doubt at all: I would just ask Anna and Sasha "are you ok? Are ready to o and give me 100?" and if they say "yes" Liza would be on the bench.
(If Kami can walk I would put her on the ice even if not 100%: she gained the right to be the one telling me "I'm not ok to go")
I wish all four of them could be on the team. would it really hurt if they had 25 skaters at the Olympics instead of 24?

At this point I don't want to comment on the Liza and Anna situation anymore. Like I said I wish they could both be on the team. I feel like both girls have probably been stung by criticism and comments from coaches and fans alike.

Good health to all and to all a good night!

18-22 january.

That's true, the gap is very long for her and that adds to pressure on her tiny shoulders. She also wasn't allowed to skate at the senior cup stage. I presume if the rules were clear she would go to at least one junior cup stage, but they weren't.

It looks like they really stuck it to SA. But why?
There will be a lot of pressure on her partly because the other girls including her training mate have gotten considerably better since the beginning of the season while Sofia has been silent. These great athletes need competitions. They need to compete.
This girl really could have used to compete at senior Nationals. I hope she's not Rusty at Junior Nationals but she could be. It will be the same with Zhina she has not competed for a long time.

It would be amazing😍😍😍
Well the situation is not that simple

They can only spilt 2 of 4 disciplines. First going to the men of course, since it’s only 2 days between the individual and the team event. No one can skate 4 times in 6 days. That’s insane.

The second, imo, they will split the dance. Sin/Kats definitely not healthy enough to do both. And Eteri will want her daughter to have an OGM. So probably S/K for RD and D/S for FD.

So that means the women and pair with have to do both. Maybe it’ll be Kamila and Mishina/Galliamov. Kamila stuck with both and hopefully it goes better for her than it did Yulia....

Just rewatched Sofia Samodelkina's FP. Quads and commitment to choreography! I am in love! Mind you I swooned over Veronika Z doing a lovely spiral yesterday in one of those AoP clips. Such a pretty spiral!!!! And she's a quad girl! Women's figure skating is in a great place!!!!!
Samodelkina is my mom’s favourite. I think my favourite is Murav’yeva, but I love Samodelkina as well. I actually finally liked this year’s programs for Petrosyan as well in Senior Nats. Curiously enough, I 100% agree with Akatyeva’s superiority, and Mulan was the only Disney movie I liked, but she isn’t my cup of tea. I am also rooting for all of the Smirnova’s students.

Eteri can want whatever she wants but I dont understand how this would be remotely justifiable. S/B are national champs and in good shape. The only was D/S could be chosen to skate the team event is if S/K are in such bad shape that they decide to sit out altogether, and only then it could be split between S/B and D/S. Unless S/B arent invited again 😬
Incidentally I think the whole thing is so stupid. The team event should so clearly be after the individual event. It sucks all the fun out of the event knowing all the individual medal contenders aren't giving it their all. If all the stress of the individual events was over, the skaters could actually relax and have fun in the team event.
