Jason Brown

Wow. Who would of thunk that after Jason performed as brilliantly as he did today, his fans would be as upset and worried as we are. 😂 I have to laugh because it sucks, it really does. He missed the team last time around, he’s worked his butt off for the last four years, even moving to another country to train, and yet it all seems in jeopardy now. The thought that he might not make the team is awful because we know how much it matters to him. For me it’s also awful to think about the possibility of USFS basically saying that only quads matter, and that whatever he’s done for the sport is meaningless.

In addition to the selection criteria, one thing we should remember and be thankful for is that Jason actually performed brilliantly today in very challenging circumstances. He spent 33 hours in transit to get here, had to skate less than 24 hours after he finally arrived, and after a young skater came out of nowhere, threw down quads, got a standing O, and put up a score that he knew was likely out of reach for him, and he still gave a great performance. 😊 I hope he kills it again tomorrow, with or without a quad. And I hope it will be enough. But only time will tell.

It's not Jason I'm worried about this time. Strangely enough, I haven't been worried about Jason at all this time (a nice feeling after far too many stressful Nationals).

I don't want to be working tomorrow trying not to cry the whole time because Jason has lost that Olympic spot he's worked so hard for because USFS has become enamoured of some shiny new toy.

And I keep thinking about how he felt worthless in the aftermath of 2018, and we already knew there were problems ahead of that Nationals. If he was to miss out to the shiny new toy now, when he has done everything right and possible...

I think that even if he cames in 4th palce, he has a real chance to make the team if he petitions based on the selection criteria, right? Jackie tweeted about that, Jason should be ahead of Ilia in any case because of higher international scores.
On the other hand the FS can change everything, we all know that. Vincent is always a question mark and his FS layout is very risky.

The U.S. will want Ilia at Junior World's. The other U.S. junior men have not been that great this year. Ilia was first qualifier for the JGPF. None of the other U.S. junior men even qualified as alternates

It starts March 7 in Bulgaria. The Olympics end Feb. 20- too close together.

I hoping USFSA feels that way and would send Jason to Olympics, even if he finished behind Ilia.

But hoping my highest fingers and toes crossed hopes that Jason skates his very, very best and medals here!

I think that USFS wants to send Jason, but he does have to skate really well today. I think that he will do that. He skated brilliantly yesterday and they gave him all the points that they could give him. I'm sure that he's disappointed to be in 4th, but he can overcome that. He really could not have skated Sinnerman much better. But he's up against skaters who land quads. Considering that he landed no quads, his score is incredible. Today Jason's biggest competition is himself. I think he will win that competition.

I will join everyone in saying that I am nervous, but also still think Jason will be ok. Even if Ilia was to win he would wind up in the same priority group as Jason who has a much better consistent international track record and higher scores.
Yes Jason needs to skate clean tonight but we know they will reward him highly - he got 190 in 2020 with a popped quad. Plus Ilia actually needs to land his quads and if he doesn't he has no PCS to buffer himself unlike Jason.

Won't stop me watching through my hands thought until the team is announced.

I was feeling better yesterday when people noted the BOW is considered. But then Jackie had to go and get me all nervous again when he posted that they also consider trending scores and recent placements (which would not favor Jason if he is not on the podium).

It made me remember when Jason in 2014 when he was the new senior who surprised everyone with a fantastic skate and was selected for the Olys. Seems like that choice (which I loved!) was based on US Champs placement and that he probably took the place of some other senior who was (possibly) expected to make the team.

Sorry for all the worrying on the forum. This is the first time I've ever been so stressed. Had no idea I could get so nervous when I'm not the one performing! I may have gotten a little too invested !?

Wait, they just said Tracy Wilson tested positive for COVID!?!?! How on earth is Jason going to escape getting it?
It's not a given that he'll get it, but it's not a good situation for him. Getting to Nats has been a nightmare. Now another blow. I hope he can go into warrior mode and just skate brilliantly. If he skates his best, the rest is out of his hands. He'll have done everything he can. I'm sure Tracy feels horrible! I hope she's not actually sick. This variant has become so widespread. Even very careful people are catching it. All those planes and airports are vectors. They were at Laguardia. I canceled my trip because I had to go through Newark. NY is a hotbed right now. It was not worth the risk. But of course, for Jason and Tracy, it was.

Here we go! I wish Jason the best skate of his life!!
