stars on ice/ sasha's new programs

If Sasha stays with SOI she has a chance to become the new Kristi (minus the tech) in terms of drawing in the audience.

They need that desperately... I have a feeling Miss Cohen could have a lot of negotiation power with IMG....

Skaters are doing a variety of things on the ice besides just skating. What about E. Sandhu's singing/skating act. IMO he should stick to skating only.

Because of Sasha's performance alone, I will be buying SOI tickets at the end of the month.

As with the most recent Olympics, Sasha Cohen always amazes me, phenomenal.

Thank you, Sasha, for keeping me a fan of skating, once again.

Same here. Got a floor seat! The 'Enchantment' number is not everyone's cup of tea, I know. I don't think they'ld be as entertaining if it was just back-to-back repeats of their competition programs. And yes, the broadcast was an hour long infomercial for SOI, how dya think they're gonna attract people?

I remember Alexei's acrobatic number. I thought it was odd and frankly I'd rather see him skate.

I watched Sasha's Enchantment on youtube and it was interesting. I'm really neutral when it comes to her anyway. Personally I would rather have them replace Weiss with Hongbo and then I'd have something to look at when I got tired of Sasha. ;) Keep John and Patrice though because they're eye candy.

LOL!!

I thought Alexi's thing last year was wierd and I don't really know how I will like Sasha's non skating program until I see it live.

As for the eye candy...yes they need to keep it!! It makes the show much more interesting!!!

And Disco...I think you have posters of Michael secretly hung up around your home and you carry a picture of him in your wallet...you know you do...just be honest. I can see it there right next to the picture of Morosov!!

That's exactly how I felt when I saw him skate that program in the show. OTOH, I had no problem watching Sasha in this new program. There still is skating in this number (from the guys), and Sasha still gets to skate two individual programs on the tour.

That was like a pas de quatre, only with three on skates. I liked it. I am not a huge fan of Sasha as a competitive skater but I'd totally pay to see that.

Well, I found that Alexei in the gymnast costume distracted me from the merits of the program.
I felt the same way.  Actually, I was really kind of nervous for him, especially when he untwirled himself really fast.

Here are some of my pics from the show.

I loved Sasha's number, I thought it was great to see something new. Does anyone remember Katarina Witt's number where the guys just carried her around??

My two cents (or three or four or five):

I knew Sasha's "contortionist" act was going to strike up a lot of conversation. I remember how many did not like Alexei's, as many called it, "diaper" program. I didn't mind it at all. He didn't hang from the rafters for a whole 3-4 minute program, he did get down and skate afterall!

I know that the 1-hour "info-mercial" type airing is lacking in content, but I thought this years was much better than the previous one or two years' shows. This year, they DID focus on THIS YEARS show and cast, not past shows. To me, this helps anyone who may not be fans but catch the show on tv and decide to get tickets to see it live, understand better WHO they will see. In past years, first timers have gone to the show after seeing the info-mercial on tv that included past years' casts and then they complained because people in the info-mercial were not at the live show.

I am very much biased about SOI, I am a HUGE fan and I just love it to pieces. I may not be 100% pleased with every bit of each years show, but I am always overall happy with the show. I guess because I am so biased (although I'd like to think of it as I just plain old LOVE the show because I LOVE LIVE, PRO/SHOW skating of this type), I am just baffled how people who like/love skating go to the show and complain so much about it. I just don't get that.

But whether it be SOI or any other entertainment, I go with an open mind...I don't go expecting any certain thing or with the mind set that "if I don't see it in such-and-such a way, I'm not going to like it".

I enjoy the "circus acts" for lack of better term...It just throws a little "spice" into the shows, and after all, variety is the spice of life!

I am very anxious to go to the Philly show! I really hope there will be an excellent turn out of attendance. I don't want the show to ever stop coming to Philly, no matter how much the cast changes over the years. I'm disappointed COI won't be coming anymore, I'd be devastated if SOI stopped coming to Philly. It seems this year I have seen a lot more skating forum people posting that they'll be at the Philly show. That's great! There are a few forum members who have an unofficial meet and greet in Philly, in the lobby before the show. It'd be nice to have our group grow in numbers!

Pat, I agree with everything you said. :agree: I think the shows are really good. I, too, think this years short TV SOI was good. As I said in previous posts, the past few years of the TV SOI was not so much about the current show and was more about Scott Hamilton.

I guess I don't understand how people are already writing reviews about the show and haven't seen it yet. I think people need to understand that the Sasha number was not Sasha's idea. She may have collaborated with them about it but unless Scott said it was a go.....then it wouldn't have happened. It seems like Sasha is blamed for things she herself has no control over.

I think she is a great addition to SOI. I am just unhappy that I won't be able to see it.

Thanks Dee! Nice to know I'm not the only one who is SO a fan! I know Gail (IluvTodd) is also.
We feel very fortunate to be able to see the show in Philly every year. I sure hope it doesn't stop coming to Philly any time soon!

oh come on, let's not get into "poor her" again- SHE could have said no if she didn't want to do it or didn't feel comfortable doing it. Even if she didn't come up with it, she ultimately had to agree to it.

Red Dog might be right. Sasha and her PR team have always made sure it was known that Sasha doesn't do what she doesn't want ot do.

What's your point?????
