stars on ice/ sasha's new programs

(thanks to carolinefan) I got to see sasha's flexiblity showcase. very intersting. she looked very much at home doing those lifts and stuff. I gotta say the way patrice L. lifted her in the begining... like she weighed 1 pound. I wasn't wowed by any of the things really that she did.... i think that it is much more amazing the things that she can do in skates while spinning. But it was a great number.

It is difficult to guess what might become the biggest audience highlights during the tour as my impression has been during the years that the Lake Placid audience always is very enthusiastic about everything.... To me the highlights of the broadcast were (in no particular order):

Sasha Cohen - Anytime, Anywhere
WOW, I just loved her beautiful, elegant skating and the great choreography!!! And enjoyed it even more because I also love that music.... To me a perfectly enjoyable programme is a combination of beautiful skating to enjoyable choreography combined to great music. Sasha´s programme is a perfect example of it.

Michael Weiss - Save a Horse
This was great fun, what a great showman Michael has become during years. He knows how to take his audience....

Cohen, Lauzon, Weiss and Zimmerman - Enchantment
A highly enjoyable group number!!! I just hope that Sasha´s dress would have been different.

Todd Eldredge - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
WOW, I really enjoyed this!!! Todd has a really great programme to music that is very choreographical, so to speak. My favourite men´s programme of the broadcast.

Shen & Zhao - Feeling Good
They are such a fantastic addition to the tour!!!

Based on the above programmes of the broadcast I get a feeling that this is a great show where these wonderful skaters are bringing in their top game for the audeince, using their best talent to do it. Oh, I almost forgot: I enjoyed the programme of Ina & Zimmerman as well.

Good luck for the tour!!!

One question for the Ladies: Is John Zimmerman still the best looking guy in figure skating?

Joe

I don´t know about that, but he sure is veeery charismatic.

We haven't seen the broadcast yet, and we do miss the A&E ones. Nevertheless, we can't wait for the show to come our way in March.

Not much for show skating but the Sasha on ballet shoes was intersting.

Maybe she could come back as a pairs skater for 2010?????:rock: Is it possible to learn pairs in such a short time given her ability in skating. She'd be easy to lift and would have great form etc>

 But what about Ilia?

Aah, although I´m a fan, it seemed to me that his self-choreographed "Inspiration" programme (with self-composed music as well) did not compare so well to those of other skaters. I noticed though that Ilia was in a rather good condition jumpingwise. The footwork I liked very much, but it should have lasted longer to make an impact as well as many other moves which seemed way too rushed (a problem in most of his self-choreographed programmes), in my opinion. A big plus was his apparent speed on the ice and the jumps looked very high.

The NBC version of SOI is usually a marketing plan. They show very few group #'s and are trying to attract and audience by featuring the stars instead of the group. Can't wait to see it in Philly.

I'd rather watch skating than someone trying to be a ballerina on ice, or a circus act. Really. We've always known Sasha is flexible but that isn't skating! She should go into ice dancing though, especially if she doen't have the jumps anymore.

I caught some of the SOI "infomercial" they showed last weekend.

I didn't, and still don't, understand the meaning of the circus act with Cohen and the guys. What's that supposed to mean? I've tried and I'm not sure how it fits in with the rest of the show. oh well.

Looks like it could be a good one overall- not too big on show skating myself but this is probably a once-in-a-while opportunity for me to see the show in an arena that's less than 5 miles away.

.

I did not see it as a circus act at all. I saw it as a modern, edgy dance that was on ice and kudoos for including something different to the show. I don't know what it means but I enjoy a lot of innovative and modern dance and for me it is all about the visual. Different strokes.

Circus act.....that's kind of mean spirited.

I think Sasha's flexibility act was a way of adding something new and different to the show. Not everyone is going to like it, of course. Since Sasha is headlining the show, I can see why they would take advantage of this talent since most skaters do not have that ability.

I like Sasha on much more than her acrobatic extensions. She is very musical and knows how to sell her performances both in competitive and professional arenas.

As for the 'flexibility' I would not judge it against other skaters who are physically unable to get exreme limberness. If one started training as a 4 year old in gymnastics and/or dance, that is the reason one would have such 'flexibility' If only those skaters are dazzling for some, then one is missing a lot of other more natural and competitive aspects of all skaters.

One of the reasons I wasn't all that blown away by the number was because I've seen almost every single one of those "flexibility" moves done by other skaters before. Alot of the strictly adagio pairs do them- Leonova and Khvalko in particular have done the majority of these moves in their programs. Just with a quick google search I've found some pics : http://webwinds.www8.50megs.com/pairs/leonova80127.jpg

It was nice I guess, but wasn't overwhelmed by it. Not that every program has to be completly new and original to be beautiful, but I'm just saying maybe I wasn't shocked by it because I didnt find it all that new. Anyways, Sasha looked lovely throughout.

Actually loved the skating. Kulik can do no wrong as far as I am concerned but I don't think he will be in KC.:disapp: We are going to the one in KC. Think it's around 2/22. Hard to wait. Tickets are in the third row.:love::love:

let us know how it is!

I don't know, maybe it will come together once the show is seen in one piece. I'll keep an eye out for preliminary reviews and then experience it for myself. Maybe it's more impressive when seen live, but I didn't think all that highly of it seeing it on TV.

GG- I think I *may* be 3rd row as well
