Andrei Mozalev

Mozalev commenting his short:

Mozalev looked calm, in an unperturbed mood.

“It wasn’t a completely successful performance of the Short Program. I wasn’t particularly anxious, just counted on a good performance and wanted to enjoy it, but fell and popped. The Olympic Games are a celebration, so I am happy that I made it here.

During the team event, I didn’t expend much emotions, because I believed in our guys. During the free, I will be doing my thing, set myself up for the program. We haven’t had the chance to analyze the mistakes yet, but Kirill Anatol’evich said that at any rate, that’s experience.

I didn’t have problems, in principle, with the early schedule. We were prepared for it. There was nothing unexpected. The main impression I have from the Olympic Village that it’s a celebration. One needs to enjoy it! Of course I would have wanted to go see a hockey game. And not just hockey. If I had such an option, I would have attended all the other sports as well. I don’t know yet, if I would have this opportunity. But for now I haven’t watched anything, because I was setting up for my performance.”

And a beautiful montage of Mozalev’s smiling moments:

I hope Andrei can bounce back in the free and place much higher.

I do not like how these world class athletes are skating at 9 in the freaking morning. Lol what?

Seriously do they skate at 9:00 in the morning and any competitions during this season?

Also Mark is super tired mentally and physically after having to skate both events in the team competition. They really need to create an Olympic team competition where every discipline has 2 participants otherwise it's not really a team competition. That the Russians with the deepest talent pool used only 1 participant for all 4 disciplines is a joke.

Either they simply couldn't agree on substitution with everyone trying to push their skaters and the Fed said screw it and/or this was decided at the level above the Fed where "these are your best and brightest? Then go with them because we really need that gold instead of trying to hand out free medals and screwing up like last time" made the most sense.

As for nine in the morning, no, nobody is insane enough to start a competition at this time (meaning you have to have a 6.30 am practice, meaning you have to get up at 4.30 am). Mark talked about sleeping in the changing room before the team SP. I can imagine how sleep-deprived he must be by now. Pairs were especially hard-hit considering how strenuous and dangerous what they have to do is.

Well, Mozlaev said he was fine with getting up early. He never really complains about anything.

Trying to push whose skaters? only Anna and t & m should have been the substitutes because they've been around the longest and they are the most deserving. These Russian Federation fools are so upset that TT dominates and they want to ruin it and they did so by not allowing Anna and T & M to have their rightful Olympic gold medals for the team event. After Karen lost four points to Russia and Nathan did not skate the free skate the gold medal was decided. winning by nine points was ridiculous when they could have won by seven or eight and given others gold medals. Even if it was somebody else besides Anna and T and M three more Russians could have had Olympic gold medals but because the professor got his nose out of joint allegedly it did not happen. Lol.

If Misha was there he would have gotten at least one of the men skates and they would have split with the women and Anna would have had her gold medal but silly games were played and three great Russian athletes were denied an Olympic gold medal because of stupid politics. it's bad enough we have regular politics in the world we have it in Sports too.

I know the Russian figure skating Federation despises Eteri. But her girls and the success of TT have carried Russian figure skating for 10 years with occasional help from pairs. where would they be without TT? I mean this beleaguered and despised coach is going to have short program finishes of her pupils in the top five in three disciplines at the Winter Olympics. Think about that.

As for Andrei I think he will skate much better in the free skate and make his fans proud that he was selected for the Olympic team. He is young and has been thrown into the deep end of the pool but I think we all expect him to grow from this and become better. I don't think any fans expected the three Russian men to be high in the standings at the Olympic Games so they need to take all these experiences and use them to make them better and be more comfortable in the big events.

Shame on Maria Butyrskakya for skewering Andrei for his struggles in the SP. This Is especially bad considering Maria's 1st major competition at the world championship she finished 29th!

Good luck to Andrei tomorrow. I hope he enjoys his Olympic experience. Better days are ahead.

His practice didn’t improve, with multiple problems on 4S, but he did jump a 3F. I hope he is not going for 4S tomorrow.
I think he landed it once. He might go for it, as he'll want to prove that he can rise up the standings!
And then face the media afterwards, he skates pretty early :cautious:

3F imo could mean one of two things—he will substitute 4S with it to get a more modest result, but cleaner skate or he could still try 4S and sub in 3Lo for 3F for any points he could gain. Yes, he landed it once, but it is a huge gamble with his rate of success on it, and falls make him be behind the music, so he always risk finishing after. The way this went so far, I just hope he avoids an injury… I am just so worried for his next season already, it’s unreal.

I think he had developed a way of dealing with press. He retells his skate, then adds some canned phrases, like working harder, will look at what went wrong, though sometimes he says something more sincere. He is definitely better at talking now.

Hi everyone! Sorry for my bad English. I'm from Russia and skipped foreign language classes at school  Well, I hope my vocabulary is enough to express thoughts. I will try to speak in short and as precise phrases as possible, which is rather unusual for Russians. :rolleye:

I am a fan of figure skating and a big fan of Andrei Mozalev, in Russia we also call him Graf (count). At the moment, Andrei is going through hard times. Firstly, he is very hard on himself and dissatisfied with terrible skates. Secondly, he receives a huge portion of criticism in connection with poor results at the Olympic Games. Many famous former athletes and other idlers have questioned the wisdom of his trip to the Olympics. This is typical for our country, we value only those who are successful now. Thirdly, the Russian Figure Skating Federation is very disappointed with his results. Being here, we know that Mozalev is not on an equal footing with Semenenko and Kondratyuk. Due to the fact that he is not at the famous club, Andrei does not receive as much administrative support as these guys. He "made himself" and achieved everything on his own. Oh yes, I forgot that Hanyu's crazy fans are still angry at Andrei, but this problem is not so big compared to the others.

Now his firmness of spirit is being tested most severely. Perhaps, under an unfavorable set of circumstances, his career may suddenly end, just beginning. He is very young and may make the wrong decision due to emotions.

Please, everyone who loves Andrei, write him words of support on his Instagram account, convince him that the darkest hour of the night is followed by dawn, and he needs to continue, no matter what, and then everyone will believe in him. He is very closed, but very vulnerable. His willpower may not be enough. But Andrei always said that the support of the fans is very important to him.

Thank you in advance to everyone for whom the fate of a talented young man is important. We will all be very sad if his career gradually fades away.

Phew, I'm done. I hope that I described everything more or less clearly. Sorry if I made a few mistakes, I'm not writing in my native language. Love to all

Welcome to our small corner of Mozalev’s fandom! I think I had left about 10 or so posts on his last post on the IG account since Golden Spin through all the ups and downs of this season. I am hoping that things will work out for him somehow. Defintly going to watch him in every competition, big or small.

Edit: the other place to support Mozalev if you are so inclined, is this heart-collection initiative:
