I’ll never ignore Karen’s faults - I’ve actually been quite critical of her since her selection in 2018. She has chronic under rotations and is painfully inconsistent. I never said Mariah shouldn’t have been National Champion (although I think she should have probably been a two time national champion by now). And most people have been claiming that she, Mariah, and Alysa have similar scoring potential. That’s not underplaying their accomplishments and talents. Alysa is a gifted young skater with a lot of grit and passion when it counts. Mariah is a beautiful artistic skater who is able to project joy out onto the audience and create a moment. All three of them have valuable traits and qualities. None of them are top 5 material. That’s a fact.

I never had much confidence in the USFS (see: 2018 selections, the pressure cooker they put their top young talents into, and their pathetic talent development program). So maybe that’s why this didn’t surprise me. I’m just of the mindset that what happens happens. No one is claiming that people defending Karen have the moral high ground over those who disagree with the decision. There is a difference between being critical of the choice and being rude or hostile. This is a public forum so you can say whatever you want, but it can also be called out for being perceived negatively.

Moving on, I’m excited to see how the ladies place in the short program. Looking forward to practices although knowing our ladies they won’t mean much compared to the actual performances. I’m still shocked that Karen went from a popfest practice to actually doing all her jumps an hour later.

I just watched Alysa's latest practice on Peacock and I did not decern any aftereffects from covid. She skated her SP and it was clean with a 2A.
By comparison, Mariah popped nearly all of her jumps and marked basically everything in her program. Hopefully she just needs more time to get comfortable being in China, and its not a sign that she was really sick and missed training time.

Mariah looked great earlier this past week! It might just be nerves starting to seep in now that the individual is getting closer.

She's looked good in other practices, she might just be having an off day

Ok, I hadnt watched any others so youre porbably right. Do they get a practice session every day? If theyre only letting skaters from the same country practice together, its hard to imagine how anyone is getting enough time.

Shcherbakova did a vlog or interview and she says her practices are 8am-9am, so they probably have ice sessions in 1 hour blocks

Probably an off-day. She attempting 3Lz3Ts and 3F3Ts, landing the 3F3T in both the short and long run-throughs. The 3Lz3T was outside the program run-throughs, but I'm glad she's attempting them in case she needs to add it.

I’m glad I am not the only one to skip this forum for the entire team event. Christine Brennan make Karen’s fall like the end of the world — reminds me of a lot of articles when Nathan falls 2-3 times in TE in 2018. Nerves happens, it’s not the end of the world!!! It didn’t make USA to lost a medal. Everyone needs to calm down.

I don’t get why we still arguing on why USFS pick Karen over Mariah or Alysa. You or the skaters (and the coaches) can complain to USFS - it has nothing to do with Karen and really nothing to do with us because the decision HAD BEEN MADE! USFS will not be reading this forum and say “oh, people doesn’t like this decision hmmm maybe we should post something” cuz they have a bigger problem now with Vincent testing positive for Covid-19–especially when Vincent skated yesterday and interact with the other team!!!

There are more to life than one competition. Breath in, breath out and it is going to be okay.

I would argue USFS never reads the forum Vincent or no Vincent.

According to someone who was watching the Men's SP on USA Network, they showed Alysa, live, landing a 3A during practice

It was a standalone triple axel as far as I could tell, not in a runthrough. We'll see how she does in competition in a week.

Alysa Liu's practice notes from what I saw on Peacock:

2A, 3Lo, 3Lz, 2A, 3A(q), run through (2A, 3Lo, 3F, 1A, 3Lz1T, 3F2T, and 2A), 3Lz3T, 3Lz, 3Lz3T, 3Lz1Eu3S, 2A, 3A(<?), 3A(q?), 1A, 1A, 3A(q), 3Lz3T, 3Lz3T, 3F, 3F, 2A, 2A, 3T, 3S, and 3T

Liu landed 26 triples, 5 triple triples, and four triple-Axels. Liu attempted 6 triple-Axels, landed four of them, and singled two. Very nice speed throughout her practice. They attempted a few single-Axels with both arms behind her back (woah) and laughed when they singled her jumps in the run-through. Overall, Liu seems well grounded and conditioned.

News piece on Amber where she talks about testing positive for COVID @ nationals.

She says she's "...excited to get back into the grind and return for next season,"

The team event medal ceremony has been delayed again. I wonder if someone's pee was hot.

"According to preliminary information, the problem is in the US team, which was supposed to be awarded silver at the ceremony. Rewarding, firstly, is impossible due to the isolation of Zhou, and secondly, the Americans who had contact with Zhou are now at increased risk. Their meeting with other teams is undesirable in the coming days.

The ceremony has been postponed indefinitely." (c)

lot of singles there...The pops are worrisome because the points are so much less for a single jump.
