Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

As I have understood, right now the IOC and Russia are going to go head-to-head in front of the highest court in this field, the CAS?

My question is: Is there any reasonable scenario in which the CAS would rule in favor of Russia and let her compete? Cause I cannot come up with any legal ground to sustain such a decision, but then again I have 0 competency in international sport's law. Or is this basically just a formality but really Kamila's Olympic fate is already decided?

I think there is always a possibility, so I wouldn't say her fate is decided. But I agree that, given past rulings, it seems unlikely. Letting her compete would also hold up the awarding of the individual medals if she is on the podium.

I have my doubts that was the actual reason why.
Why not? It happened to Jessica Calalang. And from what i remember, nobody was accusing her she is a 'dopper', or her whole team, or her whole federation. And i'm the one who have double standards, being called they way i was called in this thread  It's possible, mistakes happen. We don't know all the details yet.

are you joking ? even child actors and celebrities don't get these kind of athlete's scrutiny
They do get. I am talking about being the centre of interest. Think of Shirley Temple or Judy Garland...
Plus athletes have to know very well in advance that hightened interest can be expected.
Plus no one forces them to be a professional athlete.

A reason I can think off, that it´s not very unlikely giving the circumstances we are in, is that the lab who analyzed is having staff shortness because of covid sickness or work overload due to covid test. Or a good mix of both. I don´t know if the last one is even an option, is the same lab doing covid tests? I know from Norwegian labs they are very overworked and working a lot of overtime, and covid test have been top priority. All though the there should be some kind of priority of those test as well. Anyways if they are not doing covid test they could still have staff shortness.

But I have to admit the timing is terrible yes. I hope there will be some explanation about the timeline as well.
As a Swede I feel ashamed that the Stockholm lab took almost SEVEN weeks for analysing the sample. Covid is probably an explanation. What I know is that during January there was a lot of shortness of staff here and there. That's because there were recommendations that you should stay at home if you had been in contact with a suspected covid person. Also kindergartens didn't take children if they had the slightest cold etc, so a lot of parents had to stay home with their children.

But still, analysing samples before an Olympic Games should be prioritized!!

I don't think Russia will win, but Russia has won a surprising amount of cases before CAS. A bunch of Sochi medalists were stripped and suspended but CAS reversed it.

Not just the IOC, also WADA and ISU are going against RUSADA. I wonder what that means in practice. Will it be three different appeals, possibly with different points raised, and three different hearings in front of CAS?

I agree, I just cannot see how they could possibly justify it legally to let her compete. As much as I would want things to be differently.
I think the most likely scenario is for her to be suspended from the Olympics, but to be given a very lenient and short suspension after that, to be able to compete again at the very latest next GP season. Which would only be fair to her, since she is, again, not at fault and 15yo. That's how they should make use of that "she's a minor" clause.

This information just came, so apparently covid was the reason :( Terrible timing, terrible...
