Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

There are rumors on the Russian forums that the CAS ruled against Kamila and she will be suspended from the Olympics. I guess that means ROC loses the team event gold.
How would they know what the ruling was if there was no announcement? I am not even sure that there is any ruling yet. Ain't it true that the ruling is made by the court afer the hearing when they consider and process all the information they have received? Like tomorrow morning (Beijing tIme)? And that's why there is no anouncement made directly after the session?

I am a big fan of the Russian school and of TT in particular, these have been difficult days for fans who have lived these four years the victories and defeats of these girls. I absolutely refuse to believe what everyone here says about systemic doping. However I am realistic and with all the pressure from the international community I know that we will not see Kami in the individual event. I find it hard to believe that there are people who still have that hope. Journalists, skaters from other federations and the whole world say it is unfair to be allowed to compete, the IOC is at a point where it would rather maintain its reputation than allow an athlete with an open doping case to compete at the Olympics Games

Carolina Kostner was banned for two years because her boyfriend was doping, and nobody complained. Now some people want an actual doper to get away with it?? Make it make sense.

I just hope I wake up tomorrow to the right decision on the news: "No Olympics for Valieva, and coaches banned for life."
Kostner was 27yo and had already 3 olympics in her bag. People were probably thinking she would retire. I think she wanted at least to take a break. So her ban wasn't that bad.
Kamila is a kid on the verge of loosing her first olys. She isn't competing for italy where she could have spots ad vitam aeternam.

According to (NY Times)

The hearing was ONLY about
the hearing was to focus on process and proportionality, with the arbitrators asked to weigh a largely philosophical argument pitting the damage of enforcing an immediate ban on a 15-year-old girl — and blocking her from the biggest competition of her life — against the potential damage to the integrity of the competition if she is allowed to compete.

In other words :

Choosing between letting a young athlete compete despite a positive test OR the integrity of the competition for the 29 other athletes.

If they choose the first option, it simply means they will reinstate the provisional ban. Those bans are there for a reason : while the athlete can appeal and prove their cases, they are not allowed to compete.

The investigation, as I suspected, will be held much later. It often takes months to get the facts necessary for an athlete to prove they didn't do anything wrong.

If ever she is proven guilty, I believe that's only when she would be stripped of results from December 25th on. So those hoping for a quick team even medal ceremony, I wouldn't count on that, at least, not with the current information. So already, IMHO, some athletes are losing a very special moment in their lives from most likely 3 teams but maybe even a 4th team (if Kamila's results are stripped).

The ban could be lifted if Valieva manages to prove her innocence. Usually, these things take several months.

I am sharing this because I feel the debate about TMZ is no longer even relevant at this point. Like in other doping cases, the test results hold up until the athlete can prove otherwise, and that is a very hard task.

What I find puzzling here is how the other countries federation are not speaking up. I have seen nothing from other nations here. I believe that for instance, some countries like Japan or USA should speak up on the behalf of their athletes in the team event and of the individual event.

Yes, I know these are just rumours, but at this point it is surreal to think that he will be able to compete. I think everyone here knows what the final resolution will be. I only know that it is painful for Kami to prolong her agony, I wonder if this girl would have been able to sleep well these days and rest, nobody deserves this. Seeing the videos where she is harassed by journalists or crying in training is heartbreaking. I just hope the announcement is made before today's official practice to avoid further suffering for this poor girl.

Well I think the full court media pressure that has been happening is partially from the US Fed by way of the US media.

Perhaps. Canadian sports commentator and former Olympian Dominic Gauthier said on TV interview : in Salt Lake, a lot of skating federations spoke up against the judging, here, in this case, it's crickets from the skating federations.

As a side note, this unfortunate series of events will definitely have repercussions. I can see how the ISU will react. Raising the age for seniors, no quads in juniors, more testing of elite juniors... etc... The sport could change.
And even with these rules I can see that Russian talent will be above any other country. Just if quads were banned in this competition, I could still see Sasha or Anna take home a medal. There are countries with skaters who cannot even perform 3-3 combinations.

Calalang had to miss Worlds because of a positive test that was later proven through analysis to have been caused by a cosmetic, not a drug

First I heard of this.... and it is outrageous. Did anyone besides Calalang suffer any negative repurcussions?

I saw this article but I really did not believe the assertions of the journalist of what it is specifically about. How can they know that? There are many other reasonings for lifting a provisional suspension. One is contaminated supplement and another that you are likely to win the overarching case. In my view it opens up debate around all areas.

The issue here is that whatever the ISU does, the new rules will be linked to this scandal. Like the IJS was linked to Salt Lake. I am sure that's not the kind of legacy any athlete would like to have.

Is this really being proposed?

I just hope she knew she was doped (unless, once again, some information have not been disclosed). Being caught must be a huge blow, but being betrayed, I can't even imagine...
