Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

The issue here is that whatever the ISU does, the new rules will be linked to this scandal. Like the IJS was linked to Salt Lake. I am sure that's not the kind of legacy any athlete would like to have.
At this point I can see that many countries would be happy if 90% of the score was artistic and 10% technical (with rules like allowing only 3 triple jumps in programs and only double jumps). I know, it sounds absurd, but even in this scenario I can see girls like Kamila standing out on the field.

As a side note, this unfortunate series of events will definitely have repercussions. I can see how the ISU will react. Raising the age for seniors, no quads in juniors, more testing of elite juniors... etc... The sport could change.
I will be coherent with my previous posts: it would be a great outcome!

There are rumors on the Russian forums that the CAS ruled against Kamila and she will be suspended from the Olympics. I guess that means ROC loses the team event gold.
I just hope that Kamila soon finds the mental strength to be able to overcome all this and resurface next season.
Anyone here (a forum of fans, not casual viewers) knows that no substance is the reason for Kamila's natural talent, she could go to another camp, to another country and for sure she would still be the same talented girl we know.
Anyway, sad for all the stress he was subjected to by the international media, I hope he catches the first plane to Russia and can get some peace of mind with his loved ones. Strength Kamila, the Olympic Games are not everything in life, you have a whole life ahead of you to be successful in what you want because you have shown that you are a hardworking and disciplined girl.
And even with these rules I can see that Russian talent will be above any other country. Just if quads were banned in this competition, I could still see Sasha or Anna take home a medal. There are countries with skaters who cannot even perform 3-3 combinations.
Their talent will not be above any other country if they are all on a level playing field with no doping. They will still find away to cheat. Russia got away with a slap on the wrist the last time they were caught . They were allowed to go to the Olympics in Beijing under strict rules but rules didn’t matter. They found a way to break them. This time it will be different because they will probably be banned from participating in any other event for years…just wait and see.

The 'whole situation' was that she didn't narc on her boyfriend.... good for her, the doping maniacs have too much power

Well from what I read about it she claims she had no idea he was doping so narcing wasn't an option, sounds more like
he abused her love and put her in a very uncomfortable situation that she later regretted and paid for dearly.

and I'm not sure what you have against "doping maniacs" but turns out in his case they were 100%
on the money so I'm sure the other athletes in his sport were happy they did their job.

Is this really being proposed?
I would not be surprised, the discourse that is being handled is that pushing girls to do quadruple jumps is causing all this. Yes, of course, because they are women and it is not possible for them to perform this type of jump, because only with abuse can a girl be able to land an ultra-C element. Really all this is so disgusting for the progress of women's figure skating. There are people who are still trapped in the 90's and hope that they continue to see that in competition, anyway.

I saw this article but I really did not believe the assertions of the journalist of what it is specifically about. How can they know that? There are many other reasonings for lifting a provisional suspension. One is contaminated supplement and another that you are likely to win the overarching case. In my view it opens up debate around all areas.
Well, do you sincerely think that Kamila would be able to prove anything in just a few days? This is why it's only about the provisional ban. It doesn't say mean that at a later time, Kamila would not be able to demonstrate her innocence. However, is it fair to let her compete first, and then see what happens? This is exactly why they put provisional bans. Look at many cases like these : one of the recent ones Laurence Vincent-Lapointe : tested positive for traces of Ligandrol. 13 times world champion... never tested positive before... Never tested positive after... even just a few days later. She was suspended right away, while she was set up to compete at worlds. This messed up the quota qualification for the country for Tokyo games. Still, not allowed to compete. Then, it took her several months to demonstrate how she had been contaminated without her knowing. After testing everything she had at home, creams, legal drugs, food, etc, she found out her ex BF had used a supplement. She never took it herself. However, it was proven that this supplement contaminated her through exchange of body fluids. They tested hair for that. They found out precisely when that happened. A lot of time and resources were spent on this. In the meantime, the athlete was not allowed to compete at all.... or even train with the national team. It took her about 2 years (covid didn't help) before she could compete again.. and still then, it was a mess because quota qualification spots for Tokyo almost meant she could not participate.

A parent/guardian is supposed to be with the juvenile when they are talking to prosecutors. I'm sure that in many cases where a juvenile is represented, the parents are considered part of the legal team and can be present in discussions with the attorney. None of this has anything to do with Kamila's case, of course. Her parents are not present and it's unclear if she even has a lawyer. And different legal standards may apply. It's also important to remember that she isn't a criminal defendant.
thanks for clarifying! I recognize that this doesn't apply in Kamila's case and of course she isn't a criminal defendant. Since her parents aren't there, I sincerely hope she has someone looking out for her interests -- as opposed to the IOC, ROC, RUSADA, etc.

Sorry but it just makes me laugh reading this, I'm not Russian but reading all this kind of anti-Russia argument is funny. Do you really think that if such a regime existed, they would invest it in a sport like figure skating? Let me tell you that you will be surprised when you see in a few months that TT will not be found guilty and that Russia will be allowed in the next Olympics. A doping case with too many loose ends about the sample analysis times will not be reason enough to eliminate Russia from the international scene, you will see.

Carolina Kostner was banned for two years because her boyfriend was doping, and nobody complained. Now some people want an actual doper to get away with it?? Make it make sense.

I just hope I wake up tomorrow to the right decision on the news: "No Olympics for Valieva, and coaches banned for life."

She wasn't banned because her boyfriend was doping, but because she was helping him to cover up his doping by lying to drug testers and lying to authorities afterwards. And people complained a lot just look at the comments here in the forum.

Etrie’s students are made of steel, they are trained through vigorous routines. Facing all odds and obstacles. This probably is a piece of cake for her, not a normal 15 year old. She should get the OGM if she is onequal playing field as the rest of the skaters, not with TMZ in her system..
Facing all odds and obstacles -- even facing allegations and questions like this? :scratch2: As brilliant as KV is, this situation is far from a piece of cake. It would challenge even the most hardened competitor.

I dislike any grouping that has power but no accountability.... what negative consequences do doping authorities ever suffer for mistakes?

I dislike any group that expects people to put aside normal human relations in favor or a political goal.

People who think Kostner was justly punished would have been informers for the Stasi in East Germany.

Look, I don't relate to your reference pool and how you apply it here,
I just know that in this situation someone was a doping athlete and abusing people
to lie for him, and you view that person as the good guy and the people that caught him as villains,
and that does not represent me, that's all.

And I felt very bad for Carolina and was happy to see her back eventually.

What I find puzzling here is how the other countries federation are not speaking up. I have seen nothing from other nations here. I believe that for instance, some countries like Japan or USA should speak up on the behalf of their athletes in the team event and of the individual event.
Oh, I'd bet they are speaking up, just behind the scenes in private, so they aren't targeted as big meanies trying to victimize a 15-year-old (you know that's how the Russian propaganda machine would characterize it; heck they are already trying to claim she is the victim of some kind of western conspiracy). So I'm sure they aren't sitting in silence, they're just not issuing press releases.

Only time will tell! Doping is still Doping!
