Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

The hearing ended but afterwards was for sure an intern discussion of the CAS and after they made their final decision they had to work out an statement so i think the timeline is quite reasonable.
Probably so. But this girl is already exhausted so I don't want to see her have a full day of practice for nothing starting at 6 in the morning. I would hope Cas would contact someone from the Russian Federation and say hey we're going to have an announcement I suck in such a short time but don't send KV out to practice today

So since the sample was tested more than 20 days after the lab received it they will likely clear her to skate?

Who’s job is it to make sure they are being tested? And likely wouldn’t have been an issue if rusada hadn’t lost their accreditation.

Did anyone else see this article?

It's way too soon for that discussion as far as we know what happened with KV is a one-time incident and there are no knowing occurrences of how it happened as far as We Know. If they find some kind of doping program again then that's another story.

But hasn't Russia in the last several years had many athletes who were convicted and banned from their Sports cleared?

That would make sense and be fair to this fifteen-year-old but there's so much pressure on CAS not to allow her to skate pressure from the ioc and pressure from the ISU.

I say let the whole thing run its course including the investigations and hopefully there's no major doping program in Russian figure skating.

I'm not sure how the timing of test results being returned somehow negates the fact that she tested positive for a prohibited drug.

I feel like people are searching for justification... any justification... for an exception to the rule.

I'm sorry for her, too, but the principal fact will not change here. She had doping in her system.

The IOC rulebook says as a minor it gives KV or any minor athlete protections in the anti-doping rule book. What exactly could those protections mean? No suspension because she's a minor? Keeping any medal she has won? I have seen no protections for this 15 year old girl hopefully some will come soon in some way.

I completely agree, however it is apparently clearly stated by WADA that testing should be conducted in 20 days.

Which is also odd as the samples are stored in a way that they are preserved for like a decade?

I haven't but a Eurosport commentator commentating speed skating yesterday said that "the Russian Olympic Committee is in a big trouble now." :(

I said this the other day, if the international agencies involved don't agree with Rusada that i thought it could impact the ban that was supposed to end in December of this year.

Sigh... I wish PCS actually meant something. Compare Nathan Chen getting such high PCS and skating skills marks. Crazy. You're telling me that his skating skills are as good as Patrick Chan? That's flipping insane. What is the point of developing excellent skating skills and blade control when they're worth less than a double axel difference?!
Be a little more realistic. Chan had great skating skills, but his jumping skills were subpar compared to other men in his day. He really only mastered 4t; he tried to add 4s but was unsuccessful. And he landed his 3a only 50% of the time.

Chan was a great skater, but he could not compete with the Worlds best in today's world given his limited jump repertoire.

As far as I know, She was tested in December but the result just comes back. Russia anti drug org partners with Swedish lab. Swedish lab got hit by Omicron COVID. Sounds familiar, right? Labor shortage explains why there is delay in result.

Whatever the outcome (suspend or not), it's definitely a tragedy for Kamila. Yes, I don't want to her (actually all Eteri girls) to compete but......um.... feel sad and terrible for her at the same time. At the end of the day, she is just a young teenage girl. Her career and life is ruined too soon.

They can test samples even 10 years later. Athletes can be sanctioned, yep, 10 years after winning a medal. So, delay in testing a sample likely won’t be an issue. Plus, we don’t know if it was 20 days until the B sample was tested and results announced. It’s possible A sample had results reported weeks ago, but was hushed up.

I really don’t think a major decision could be based on the A sample. I’d venture to bet that CAS has a confirmatory B sample result. It’s even possible that’s why the IOC ITA and ISU appeared to be stalling.

If this were any other country but Russia, she might be given the benefit of the doubt pending a full investigation. But she represents a country that has systematically and institutionally thwarted drug testing. How can anyone take the sport or even the Games as a whole, seriously if this is allowed to slide, and she is allowed to have her moment in front of billions of people?

Do we have a more specific time frame for the statement by now?

I'm ready to disappear and get some work done till that wretched hour comes
and all that will follow it o_O

1. As far as I know, we don't *know* when the lab received it or why the results were delayed. We know what RUSADA says. The lab is not commenting.

2. If the lab is closed, or is slow, particularly before the Olympics, a fed typically does all they can to expedite results. (I am trying to find the article with the quotes, but cannot). I don't know (as in I don't know) if there is an assigned responsibility.

3. RUSADA lost its accreditation for a reason.

They could refuse to issue Eteri a visa to enter the country on grounds of poor moral character IF she is found to be complicit in a doping event. (And there is currently zero evidence of that) However in international competition her skaters are typically representing the Russian Skating Federation/ROC and not Sambo 70, and general rule and courtesy for such things is that a nation's delegation for a competition should be green lit to attend the competition, pandemic problems with vaccinations and such notwithstanding.
Some countries might. Other countries have laws against that.
