Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

The olympics threatened to ban figure skating if there is another scandal after 2002. I wish they would, but I don't think they will. Figure skating would be so much better without the nationalistic olympic culture.
It’s such a popular event. I can’t see them banning it.

I really hate how this system destroyed this 15 year old girl. Her name will forever be linked to this doping scandal and she will never receive invitations or opportunities to tour and earn money outside of Russia. Meanwhile, Team Tutberidze will discard and replace her with another prodigy. It’s tragic, really.
Don't worry she will be fine

It's disgusting to pretend that 60 percent or more of asthma among skiers is the norm.

They train long hours in very cold and dry air that can irritate the lungs so I'm willing to believe it is possible. Swimmers are more likely to have asthma. A study a while back found that while some of them had been children who had actually been told to go into swimming 'because the warm damp pool area air helps the lungs, many more were diagnosed after they started training. Turns out the chlorine and other pool chemicals used to sanitize the water also get into the air around the pool and it causes probably more asthma cases than it helps.

because evidently she is not suspended (probably because of her protected status but I'm not such an expert).
The original suspension was lifted as far as I remember and that lift has never been revoked.
I don't know if it's right but I fear there is not clear right here with conflicting needs (not the perfect word but my english is failing me in finding a better one)

As for the 1st quoted line.
If it wasn't an accident of some kind I'm inclined to think that too but it's just my unsupported opinion.
Let's hope a serious investigation will follow
A problem I see is that there is too much talking about Kamila but not enough about the adults around her.
Athletes ARE banned UNTIL the sample B overturns the decision.Ksmila is not. They’re acting like it’s not enough evidence with a positive sample, which is so not true.

So they could got her one, right??
she must be overlooked and her doping now because other have medical exemptions?
who are you talking about? Kamila?
I never heard she claimed to be under medical use of the substance so it has nothing to do with it (it should be filed in advance btw)
If it was not clear, I'm against medical exemptions and consider them a loophole fraudolently exploited by too many people already.
I really hope her defence does not go that way cause in my eyes it would be no defence at all.

P.S. it is probably wrong to talk about medical excemptions in this thread since, it will only create more mess as out exchange proved.

My hope is that none of skaters from Turberidze's school are invited in the GP next year.

It's a commercial tournament, so ISU should have a full control over it. This school caused 2 GP stages to go with less competitors than announced when they knew 100% that an adolescent skater couldn't compete (and Russia/other countries had a few men who could sub), had a public tragedy unfold on ice with another adolescent, and topped it off by using the third adolescent's age to make a mockery of two FS events in the Olympics, potentially stripping the countrymen of their medals too.

Tutberidze this year systematically damaged Russian and international skating far, far more than anyone else.
I can't see that happening. ISU isn't af franchise like NFL or NBA so they are limited in what they can do. The feds have the right to assign their skaters and if there is no personal misdemeanor from the skaters they would simply sue their way into the GPs through CAS.

But I'm sure ISU will be watching closely what will be disclosed in the upcoming investigations and they may take action based on that.

I wonder... And I'm just thinking out loud so don't kill me... If at this stage did IOC thinks all 3 Eteri skaters will podium so this no ceremony thing is big "up yours" to them. They lost the CAS ruling, this is the only punishment they can dish out.

However it will backfire horribly if one of the other ladies in the other countries medalled.
here's thing thing though, the podium has never been more uncertain than it is now. we all went into this expecting an easy win for Kamila and now that couldn't be farther from the case. this has clearly been negatively affecting herin practice and i'd imagine the same to some extent for Anna and Sasha. Kamila has been put in an unimaginable situation that she could not foresee or train for. she will likely face bullying for years after this, especially if she does pull it together and win. if she medals, she could be stripped of it. there will be MANY people rooting for her to fall apart. the last few days i'm sure has done very severe damage to her metal health and training. we have absolutely no idea how she will hold up, or if she will hold up at all.

add all that to the fact she is only 15 years old.

So, the top 10/20 can sue for 2/1 spots in the tournament?

I don't know how to help you solve the mistey but evidently she's not, even after yesterday's hearing.
I suppose it has to do with her protected status by I can't give you a definitive answer.
I hope someone here has a reference on the ban lift by RUSADA I seem to remember or a more knowledgeble explanation.

Anna just landed 2 clean 4F in a row in practice.

I found out about this great news at 1am NY time as I was up following the live score of the Women’s hockey game, since I had placed a bet on over 11.5 and was waiting for the 12th goal so I can get paid.

Betting became legal in NY last moth and apparently all my years watching sports and following the odds for fun all have made me decent handicapper. Have taken the books to the cleaners so far. Turned their welcome money into a 4 figure profit in 6 weeks.

So it was only fitting that I got the 12th goal right about the time I got the alerts that, as expected, the Russian lawyers took the IOC and WADA to the cleaners as well.

Me and the Russian lawyers are both on winning runs. Haha

And I can confirm I cheered more for Kamila’s news than my win.

@Scott512 Now you see why I was optimistic about her chances to compete. The court of public opinion isn’t a real court. When people have a right to defend themselves, and they did nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about.

Her competitors should be happy that they now have to face the best, so they can measure their skills against the GOAT.

That is the only way the chasing pack can improve. And if you are a real competitor, you want her there because you don’t want to duck opponents that are better than you. You actually welcome them.

Nothing else more to say that GO, KAMILA, GO!! Take that anger out of the competition!!

I am sure they won't go for TUE. TUE is not the Russian game. Somehow we don't have sick athletes to be treated with forbidden stuff and somehow Russian winter is much milder than Norwegian so that our skiiers do not suffer from asthma en large.

Okay, I've read the entire thread.

Vulgar national bias, lynch trial - accusing Kamila and Eteri-team of all sins without any investigation, complete disregard for common sense, formalistic-bureaucratic thinking and at the same time hypocritical lamentations about "poor clean athletes". I hoped that at least in a specialized forum I would get away from such primitive reactions. Well, I was wrong - nothing new.

But what happened today gave a drop of hope. I sincerely didn't expect it. THIS what it was new.
