Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

My thoughts as stated in the previous thread: Poor Jessica Catalang. If only she was 15, Russian, and a gold medal contender she wouldn't have missed worlds. A total joke. I wouldn't surprised if that was another underlying reason that she was allowed to skate: RATINGS. They're gonna need them, cause after this immediate firestorm dies down, even less people will care about this sport outside of Russia and Japan.
I would imagine Japan will turn it off as well. They are probably going to have a skater directly affected

Asking for clarification - what is the difference here from the official perspective - between the Calalang situation and this one? I know people think it is Russian favouritism, but what is the justification that is being used by the officials to let Kamila compete?

I've thought about a way for the women competing tomorrow to stage a protest with minimal impact on their Olympic experience and all I could come up with was that they could refuse to sit in the K&C and just leave for backstage after their performances. If everyone did that, it would send a message. But could they be punished for that (e.g., on the grounds of unsportsmanlike behaviour)?

PS: I've found the best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them. That's what usually irks them the most. ;)

I don't know how to help you solve the mistey but evidently she's not, even after yesterday's hearing.
I suppose it has to do with her protected status by I can't give you a definitive answer.
I hope someone here has a reference on the ban lift by RUSADA I seem to remember or a more knowledgeble explanation.
I know, thats what I said, she is NOT banned, She should

They basically said they're not gonna decide on the matter right now, due to first and foremost her age and that she is protected,
and then due to unique circumstances which didn't allow time for her to properly defend herself.

I am sure they won't go for TUE. TUE is not the Russian game. Somehow we don't have sick athletes to be treated with forbidden stuff and somehow Russian winter is much milder than Norwegian so that our skiiers do not suffer from asthma en large.
So you replaced TUE with full on doping that's what you wanted to say.

I found out about this great news at 1am NY time as I was up following the live score of the Women’s hockey game, since I had placed a bet on over 11.5 and was waiting for the 12th goal so I can get paid.

Betting became legal in NY last moth and apparently all my years watching sports and following the odds for fun all have made me decent handicapper. Have taken the books to the cleaners so far. Turned their welcome money into a 4 figure profit in 6 weeks.

So it was only fitting that I got the 12th goal right about the time I got the alerts that, as expected, the Russian lawyers took the IOC and WADA to the cleaners as well.

Me and the Russian lawyers are both on winning runs. Haha

And I can confirm I cheered more for Kamila’s news than my win.

@Scott512 Now you see why I was optimistic about her chances to compete. The court of public opinion isn’t a real court. When people have a right to defend themselves, and they did nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about.

Her competitors should be happy that they now have to face the best, so they can measure their skills against the GOAT.

That is the only way the chasing pack can improve. And if you are a real competitor, you want her there because you don’t want to duck opponents that are better than you. You actually welcome them.

Nothing else more to say that GO, KAMILA, GO!! Take that anger out of the competition!!
I don't think such a strong opinion in a positive way about the ruling will be very well received here. You were right Alex. But I'm not sure you will be right about Kamilas performance because she's probably worn out mentally and there are rumors she has not been practicing well she had three falls in one free skate practice the other day.

You are very thrilled about her being able to compete I'm more cautiously optimistic.

There will still be months and months of Investigation is try to find out who got this substance in her system and is it just her or others?

Anna and Sasha are probably so pissed off at the Federation for having them there for 11 or 12 days and they still haven't been in competition.

They gave her benefit of the doubt, but in end she will end up with gold medal, because russians will take care of it. There is a lot of time to do something. Now they are happy that they won and they gave her chance to win

This indicates that the age limit after this season immediately should be raised, based on my understanding of the reason they didn't reinstate her suspension is that her age falls into a protected status. Its appalling that at an athlete is being allowed to compete with a positive doping test because of their age

But thats what it is not fair. other athletes had no chance to parcipate in sport events while being investigated...Wada decided in american athelte case that she had ilegal substances due to make up she used. But she lost all those chances to medal at events when she was investigated.Kamila can win in 3 days , she wil be suspended from medaling but all in all russian will make sure that TZM got into her body by accident, I am sure of it. So she will keep her gold medal. Why other atheltes are banned and Kamila is not.

Same. I'm all for allowing an athlete to compete even when they are not of an adult age, considering how most female skaters appear to peak when they are of a very young age. But if this is becoming a loophole as in this case, there is hardly any defence for maintaining low age limit.

Saying "you should want a doped competitor to skate against non-doped competitors because it's the only way everybody will be motivated to improve!" is like saying "you should want a competitior with a submachine gun competing against archers because it's the only way they'll learn how to shoot faster!"

For anyone that’s interested in the tactics In doping, Just google Grigary Rodchenkov, who ran the laboratory that handled testing for thousands of Russian Olympians from the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. This will give you an insight into how it’s done and how far they go to cheat..

Isn't it interesting how Valieva being 15-year old matters only when she was about to get disqualified for testing positive on PED?

Doesn't matter when the minors are given heart medications which are under no circumstances prescribed to minors. Doesn't matter when Eteri willingly creates toxic atmosphere in her team for the sake of competition. Doesn't matter when she overtrains them beyond their age. And so on and so forth.

For long time fans: Is this bigger than the whole Tonya/Nancy thing? 😬
From a French figure skating fan:
In 1994, it was just impossible not to be aware, it made headlines everywhere and it lasted quite a long time.
In 2002, it was a real mess because one of the judges involved was French, and maybe also because A/P's expected gold medal could be jeopardized, but it was already less intense.
In 2022, of course you will find the information in the newspapers or there will be a few words on the television about this scandal, but it is only a short item, and honestly, no one cares: figure skating, what? Valieva, who ? cheaters at the OG, is that really a piece of news?

According french media, the medicine is used to treat angine and it’s not proved it increases performance like steroide.
Someone was suspended 4 years for taking a medicine which couldn’t make a snail advance.
