Surely Keegan would want to go to keep as many places for the team as possible…he’s such a team guy🇨🇦

Well...the only reason I put him in the "might not go" category is...he's definitely up there age wise, especially for men's skating...I'm not sure if the "team mentality" really exists since a bunch of people opt not to go to Worlds after the Olympics in an Olympics year...a lot of top skaters...but it won't mean anything if he finishes 11th...

I’ve certainly seen him waving his ginormous Canadian flag at worlds…but what I meant by being a “team guy” was wanting to make sure Canada has all the spots possible. If Roman and Nam went that could be disaster. Ancient though he may be he’s skating better than ever.

Well...considering he came in 11th, he's not actually "skating better than ever" considering he's usually somewhere in the top 10....at least for the past few years anyways...

not a great night for Canadian ice dance... Our 3 teams were tentative and had costly mistakes... I blame many things...

1) covid... our teams have not competed as much as some others.
2) the simple fact that the tech panel and judges have been... ermmm... conservative when it comes to rewarding our teams at the games. Which means that it adds pressure on them to skate perfectly well. I hope they do better at worlds.
I was thinking about this last night. Apart from V/M who were generational talents, Canada doesn’t have much luck at the Olympics in Ice Dance! Bourne and Kraatz were kept off the podium in 1998, then had a fall in 2002 when they would have had a bronze if that didn’t happen; in 2006 Dubreuil and Lauzon had a freak fall when they likely would have made the podium but couldn’t even compete in the FD because Marie-France was injured; and while it was a long shot this year, Piper and Paul messed up on the lift so we don’t even know where they would have scored if they had a clean skate. Compare that to the Americans who have had a team on the podium for the last 5 Olympics. Apart from V/M we’ve had no one ☹️

the only thing we know is that Skate Canada has assigned them to do it. They haven't said anything yet as far as I know... I hope they do because finishing like this is not good... that was their worst competition in a long time... a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes
Yeah I was thinking they may plan to go to Worlds now, even if they hadn’t originally intended, just so that they can have a better end to their career.

Canadian olympic curse is real.... :( I guess our ladies, when in the top (Joannie, Kaetlyn, Liz) and our pairs are immune to the curse, which is good.

After stepping out of the lutz and having to do 3lo+2t, Schizas is in 20th place and will skate in the first group. It will be very hard for her to finish in the top 10 now.

It’s not as bad as it seems.

She’s skating earlier which will impact PCS but there is only 5points difference between 10-23.

So clean skate from her and any mistakes from others could get her close

Madeline did what she needed to do at her first Olympics and skated brilliantly in the Team Event. With all the media frenzy around the individual event, I think a step out from the lutz is no biggie. I haven't watched the event... I will watch Maddie when the circus is over... I need a few days.

I'm sure Maddie's disappointed with her 20th place finish in the SP, but I'm honestly relieved that she at least made it through to the free skate, which is more than I can say about Roman. My best guess is that she buckled under Olympic pressure because she suddenly received a lot of attention and high expectations after she became Canada's star in the Team Event.

She's got the Canadian ATS Kelly Cruikshank on her side: look at all the !s, <s and qs he gave out to all the non-ROC skaters.

madeline doesn't usually get tech calls... she rotates her jumps... so i wouldn't say that the technical specialist is on her side but would propose that others who usually get favorable calls do not get them this time around... many of the women are on the Q, especially on the combos... many flutz as well... i am sure that Kelly Cruikshank would call Schumacher jumps when she URs them.. let's not start false rumours here that the ATS is pro Canadian... what a farce LOL

The only way the second Canadian man has a hope of reaching the free skate is if there is a whole bunch of withdrawals…
Considering Roman has skated poorly at the Olympics, and he is the one selected for worlds, it's perhaps easy to assume that... but here is the thing : Roman is as wildly talented as he is wildly inconsistent... I wouldn't bet either way against or for him... and if he doesn't make the free, then what? Keegan can get a 10th place... he was obviously not at his best in the LP.

She is probably tired from the team event…Schizas didn’t need to do super well here…all she needed to do was do her best and get some practice … hate to say it, but the Olympics is kinda of low stakes event unless you are a realistic medal hopeful which she wasn’t…she just needs to get on the ice and get some practice and regroup for worlds where her performances actually might have some stakes…

I thought Madeline did okay. Not as good as she could have (in the TE she was fantastic) but still okay. She has already skated superbly in the TE. Give the girl a break! I think she did well. She managed to get into the FS, didn't she? I also think Canadians can be very proud of her. So what if she skated a little less good in the individual SP event. I totally agree with kenboy123.

there is only one person on this thread who is saying negative things about Madeline... don't worry about it! Canadians are proud of Madeline !
