Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

The other issue is did she have intent or knowledge about the drug. In he justice system in many countries you must have knowledge or intent. So if someone put something in your drink you may not have intent. Everyone suffers here. I rather doubt Kamila will do that well considering all. She is 15 all that pressure and with personalities like Eteri around her = yikes.
That's not how WADA sees it. They see it as did you drug? If yes, even unknowingly, there will be consequences. They may be mitigated somewhat

I would believe that her mother was a credible witness and she would know more about her daughter than anyone else. Why would she lie?
I can think of various reasons why she’d lie. Starting with- she might say anything to try and help her daughter. Pressure to try and sell a story that doesn’t involve Russian coaches, staff, etc.

Her mother would be inherently biased in favor of her daughter. And what she offered was just speculation. That is not evidence.
So this is all speculation about the contaminated mug! Contaminated mug or not, she admitted and the test showed that TMZ was in her system…more or less, she was doped without her knowledge or she knew that she was being doped. Zero tolerance.!

New article in New York Times (open in a private window if it appears behind a paywall):
Kamila Valieva had three substances that could be used to treat heart conditions in her sample. Only one is banned.
We'd heard about the hypoxen before, but I think the L-Carnitine is a new revelation.

We're supposed to believe that a 15-year-old girl is taking two unbanned heart medications already and only accidentally ingested a third through some ludicrously circuitous sequence of events?

Edit: spelling.

Bolded part: I don't agree with the characterization of "chicken heartedness" of these organizations. While in the past IOC/ISU have seemed reluctant to ruffle Russian feathers, in this case, all three organizations pretty much immediately did the only thing they could legally do: appeal to the CAS. It was the CAS that in my opinion, and that of about 90% of the skating-aware planet, got it wrong.

The IOC, in further stating it will not award medals just yet in the event of a Valieva-inclusive ladies' podium (or the concluded Team competition), did about what it could do right now, with the limited cards it has to play.

It's the PAST stance of the IOC, being too lenient with Russia, that has led to this debacle so in that sense, yes they screwed up by not imposing draconian consequences from the outset, after the Sochi doping scandal was laid bare for all to see.
If you have been a chicken in the past, it leads to this moment. Either you are for the Olympic moment or your not. If you are, then back after the Sochi disaster, you take a stand like kicking them out. If so, this might not happen. Although, then maybe she skates for UKR/LAT/EST/KAZ.... and Eteri still gets the glory...

Spare me sure US does not dope. Remind me again why did Lance Armstrong compete for years doped up and only got 'caught' after he tried his luck in politics
Evidently, you didn't read Adams string of tweets. He didn't say US athletes don't dope, he said if they dope and they're caught, it is over for them and that is what happened with Lance Armstrong. It took a long time to finally catch Armstrong, but when it was discovered the hammer came down and pulverized him, the same with Marion Jones and many others. And by the way, the US as a country doesn't dope it's athletes like Russia was found to do. In the US, citizens have free will and would not stand for being doped without their consent, and they do not face consequences from speaking out against it.

Pretty sure a lawyer would say a mom is a least favorite witness. Why wouldn't a parent lie to protect their child?
I was playing the devil’s advocate, If the mother told the panel that she had suspected that was the way the drug got into her daughters system and the panel believed the mother to the point , that they gave the minor the benefit of the doubt and let her skate. Yes parents lie to protect their children but in this case the child is charged with doping….two wrong don’t make a right..

How can they skate for another country if they are banned from skating?

What a nasty comment...
I'm not sure what part of my comment is nasty.

It's factual that she was found to doping and to be drugged up. It's nasty to other clean athletes in the sport to think that the entire standard that people have been trying to kill themselves chasing over the past few years is not indeed natural and has been cheated.

When the investigation is over, would you prefer she kept her fake titles that she possibly got by cheating?

I think if you do a roundup of everyone in this thread (and every skater/coach/choreographer) that's spoken out against doping and/or the CAS decision, you'll find that they are from nations as diverse as the US, Canada, Italy, France, Korea, Japan and China.

Unless you think literally everyone on earth in this sport hates Russia...

Yeah. All ROC/Eteri/defense would’ve had to do is tell her “this is the story, testify to this if you want your daughter to have a future.” If she believes this will help Kamila, that’s her incentive right there.

Just one last moment. Anastasia Shabotova's joke from the past is often twisted and misused for different purposes. So I think it should be also said what is she saying now:

“It’s hilarious.
I read it and forgot, I don’t really believe in it. Girls (from Russia) are like that, nothing would have helped them if they did not have such talent. It's funny to even think, they are just talented and work hard.

It is strange to sympathize with the Olympic champions. I'm just happy for them. And I’m glad that my friends became Olympic champions, that I know them.”

L-Carnitine has been shown to have a beneficial impact in weight loss and improved brain function. It has been linked to improved heart health, excercise performance and recovery, reduction in muscle soreness and increased oxygen supply to muscles. It’s also effective for chest pain (Angina), fluid buildup in the body etc.

It doesn't let me read it, can you summarize the most important points?
Here's the article.
.

"Kamila Valieva had three substances that could be used to treat heart conditions in her sample. Only one is banned."
....

But according to documents reviewed by The New York Times and confirmed by someone who took part in the hearing, the Stockholm laboratory that carried out the examination of Valieva’s sample also found evidence of two other heart medications, Hypoxen and L-Carnitine, that are not on the banned list.

The presence of trimetazidine in Valieva’s system may have been a mistake, Russian and Olympic officials have suggested. But the discovery of several substances in the sample of an elite athlete, especially one as young as Valieva, was highly unusual, according to a prominent antidoping official.

I don't recall disputing its uses or effectiveness. I'm simply commenting on the coincidence.
