Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Now just hold on a minute. Some US media are certainly obnoxious but what about the London tabloids like the Daily Mirror? If there were an OGM for gross and obnoxious, I'd put my money on the London tabloids for sure!
I did word that poorly because in this context I was referring only to media from the Western Hemisphere. I think the US has a pretty good claim to the most obnoxious title this side of the Atlantic 🥳

Also let's be honest here, if the case is upheld and she does lose her medals how faithful do you really think the Russian public will be?
A lot.
The Russian Figure Skating Federation will certainly drop her like a stone. Team Crystal probably won't bend over backwards for her either.
No way. She will be 'our girl who suffered from evil Americans (because you know US rules it all)'

It's also possible that much of the vitriol is rooted in old Cold War politics. I'm old enough to remember some of that. Americans and Russians of...a certain age grew up thinking of each other as The Bad Guys. To some extent it's still a part of my mindset and over the past week I've really had to think twice about some of my responses to this situation. That's what they call a teachable moment, right? :)
I so readily agree with you. I have had to catch myself as well, but the tone from some of those throwing it out there is so nationalistic that it cannot be overlooked. I am sick to my stomach that the sport that I love so dearly, has this ugly cloud hanging over it and tainted in the eyes of casual onlookers who may have become fans after watching the Olympics, but are now throwing stones at it.

Well, well...here we go! So the ROC's Kamelia gets special treatment, but those same rules do not apply to anyone else. Proves that WADA REALLY screwed up with letting this person skate.

I thought Kamila passed her tests AT Beijing but had a past test that was the only issue. In this sense it’s not really the same thing and different rules may apply for different situations? This athlete tested positive during the competition.

you’re not supposed to be doping/doped at any point though. not just during a competition. athletes have faced bans from 10pm surprise out of competition tests in the past.

just because a defense team and/or the media made an argument about an older test and now pees clean doesn’t change the actual practices of fair and clean sport.

i believe biggest difference here is age/protected status.

A lot.

But then the cycle will continue forever... :( Russian athlete gets caught, Russians refuse to even consider punishment for them and/or their coaching team.

Everyone outside Russia has the impression that not only do Russians not care about doping, but they're probably all doing it (even if they're not) so every Russian athlete is looked at with suspicion.

This suspicion, even if unfair feeds into the Russian "They're all against us" to the point where even an athlete who IS guilty of doping is protected...

Rinse and repeat.

If you test positive for banned drugs, whether it’s at the European Nations or in Beijing, it’s still doping. She was tested on Dec. 25 after the European Nationals, they were late in sending the sample and it wasn’t labeled Urgent. It’s not different rules, Doping is still Doping in sports. Not because a person isn’t doping this week and don’t get a positive but Doped last month and tested positive.

I was rewatching Peacock’s womens short, and there was a shot of the stands with Medvedeva and Zagitova there, cheering on. Couldn’t they confirm/deny what happens in Eteri’s camp, now that they’re both retired? It’s possible they wouldn’t want enemies though…

Well, where did I keep accusing the US media of causing all of Kamila's problems? If you treat my words in bad faith don't expect me to care for yours.

You know, I’m not really interested in continuing this conversation. But in case you’re forgotten what you wrote, I refer you to the following posts referring to the evil New York Times:

I would like to stuff a rag in Weir and Lipinski's mouth. Like they had no controversies when
they were skating. Tara won her Olympic Gold at 15 and many thought she should not have been their
either. Going to be funny watching them get themselves all twisted in a knot if Kamila wins gold, which
I fully expect her too. No one else come close to her. Except Anna.
Still won fair!!!
