Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

I'd say at twice this money you can get a small one or a somewhat bigger in poor condition. And far from a good neighborhood. On the other hand, Moscow doesn't have those real "bad neighborhoods" like in US cities. In Moscow they're far from the center but at least they're not dangerous or all junkyard.
::cries in Brooklyn::

I did not watch the comp. I have seen still photos on Twitter.

On a personal level, I feel so so sorry for Kamila. She should never have been allowed to skate and her team, if they cared about her at all, should have advised her to withdraw.

I am reading up on the Rodchenkov Act, but I wanted this to be separate from anything I say there.

Well, it seems there is some sort of major drama going on after the event.

Makes me doubly glad I didn't watch it.
same here... just woke up ;) haha ... yup. . a bit late... and i saw the news and was like... OMG...what a pity ! i feel sorry for Kamila but it was written in the sky...no protected person loophole can really protect someone against self-doubt... and without confidence, a figure skater is nothing. Kamila should have had a coach and a federation who would have protected her and told her to go home. This didn't have to happen this way. Now she truly has lost a lot more.

When an athlete fail a doping test a certain date/ competition, all the results after that date(for the length of the suspension) will be declared null & void.

Kamilla's test was on Dec 25 right? IF in the end she is gets a 6 month suspension(lesser suspension time for minors & all that), then all the her competition results from Dec 25, 2021 till June 24 2022 is null & void. The is the standard practice in all sports for doping test.

Not exactly. Results between the doping test and the BEGINNING of the provisional suspension are automatically disqualified (world anti doping code 10.10)... and USUALLY, the provisional suspension would stick until the final judgment leading to the period of ineligibility (the ban). The ban, start at the final hearing (world anti doping code 10.13).

But at this time, KV isn't under a suspension or a period of ineligibility. Unless they retroactively reinstate the provisional suspension (due to another round of arbitration maybe?), there's no ground to withheld medals won today.

(I think they shouldn't have lifted the provisional suspension.)

The Drama continues and all in front of the camera and microphones. How are the Russia media going to portray this. Kamila is out and Trusova is having a meltdown because she didn’t win the gold medal. For 10 minutes it went on and on camera….accusations throw towards Eteri. NBC recorded it’s all….what a joke..

It will be interesting to see if/how Kamila's 4th place finish changes the narrative. RusFed would have fought tooth and nail to keep their OGM, or even their historic Olympic podium sweep, but if TE is the only thing on the line it might change things.

They are extensively covering it and Trusova now overshadowed Valieva's coverage. Most reactions are a disguised embarrassment. There is a small minority, who feel that the whole Trusova incident only highlighted that something is just not right with the sport and to the world it appears like the skating school in question is abusing children in the race for gold medals.

i saw a bit of it and turned it off.... but are we surprised? This is what happens in my field too when kids are not doing the competition in a healthy way. They become crazy when they lose. Eteri may be able to teach quads but she is failing her students in many other ways.

I didn't watch the women's event because I couldn't support abuse. But I saw enough comments about the event to know it was traumatic to say the least. I really hope that even though Valieva didn't medal the investigation will go on. Those young women deserve better than to be treated badly by their coach and be doping guinea pigs. It really doesn't matter who won, the big issues are still at play. I hope WADA actually does something and the CAS actually allows real actions to be taken. If not more young woman and girls will be abused, and this sport will be tainted..
I don't think anything changes with the investigation because there is still the team medal situation to resolve (and probably the European championships).

Just because she didn't medal doesn't mean that there wasn't wrong doing. Otherwise we're using a Sideshow Bob defense " I am presently incarcerated, imprisoned for a crime I did not even commit. "Attempted murder," now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for "attempted chemistry?""

I suppose it applies to the US only - because for instance in the Czech Republic, Finland etc. ice hockey is the most popular winter sport, in the Netherlands speed skating, in Austria and Switzerland alpine skiing, in Germany luge and skeleton...
In all these countries the popularity of figure skating is rather low without any scandals.
It does apply to the US only as my comment was in reference to the US. I know that figure skating isn't the most watched sport in other nations.

The feed is controlled by the IOC with the Chinese Olympic Committee organizing the camera operators. The global feed was shown across much of the world. Eurosport certainly had it, as they were supposed to go right into the flower ceremony.

In a way, Kamila was skating for her life.
Win the gold as expected - an entire country's got your back,
fail to do so - you're on your own, good luck.
hopefully that isn't the case.

The only way is to get Chinese police (even with some bulls** excuse) to arrest TT for child abuse before they leave Beijing. But I don't think it will work...

Edit: i mean "pretext," not "excuse"
That scenario would not work. You can hear crickets coming out of China regarding this issue. They don't condone doping, but they're not going to go against Russia unless "if" one of the Russian pairs teams were caught doping then they would lose their minds, and I would be there for every second of it. I love Sui and Han and that kind of scenario would send me over the edge as well.

Out of curiosity how much is an apartment in Moscow?
The average price of an apartment is $300 per sq.ft But that's mostly apartments in very basic highrise buildings with low ceilings. Nice apartments in good neighborhoods would cost almost twice as much. So that a 1000 sq.ft 2 bedroom (plus living room) apartment in a nice area would cost about half a million US dollars. $52,800 won't get you rich in Moscow.

Sorry, I did not read the entire conversation but your last post only.
Sorry again, no offense was intended.

That's surely not the case. The country would wait for the verdict: "guilty intentional", "guilty unintentional", or "not guilty - it was a setup". And that will determine the attitude. No one supports outright dopers in Russia. No one gives them such farewell parties as mr. Gatlin received in the US. But one has to prove allegations including TT and/or Kamila's admitting the wrongdoing like Sharapova or our curling guy did with meldonium.

Ms. Brennan's, Adam Rippon's and Co. "bursting with outrage" when nothing is clear is the last thing Russia cares about.

What’s clear is a failed drug test.

Exactly!! And that they didn´t tell her so or pull her out is just a proof that they only care about medals and not what´s in her best interest. Apparently when they got the news about that she was allowed to compete from CAS, Eteri asked her why she wasn´t more happy and Kamila said something like that she was feeling emotionally empty. A sign. She cried in several practices, another sign. And what was the the first thing Eteri said to Kamila when she came off the ice after her skate today, traumatized? "Why didn´t you fight harder"?

I hope Kamilas family take good care of her, and remove her from Sambo 70. I hope Sasha leaves again as well. I hope Aliona leaves again, she just broke her other arm. Even Anna S who is normally very balanced said she felt very empty after her gold.

Edit:

This picture is so sad. This is Anna after winning her OGM....
