Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Kamila has resumed training today. It means that the words attributed to Eteri were for real: "get yourself ready for the Worlds". If either she is cleared or the proceedings are not over she will be able to participate. And I am sure this time she will be mentally prepared.

Also Kamila has now more than 1 million followers on Instagram - I hope that she feels that she is supported and she is ready to fight.

As I said on another thread, one problem (among many others) of the current doping monitors is they hit out at the bottom and not the top.
they always punish athletes and not federations.
After the news from Sochi came out Russia (and Russian citizens) should have been excluded through at least 2020 from any international competition.
Go for the federations and not the athletes....
Well. i was just watching the closing ceremonies and they presented, in front of the whole world, the olympic podium of the cross country marathon.... won by a ROC athlete (not implying anything about him) with the Tchaikovsky piano concerto as "anthem" and the ROC flag... not sure that will send a message to ROC.
The commentator on French CBC said : I will not ruin the party for everybody but this saddens me.

the Tchaikovsky's 1st piano concerto as "anthem" was a cool idea, indeed.

Russia shouId sponsor its own Olympics, inviting what it considers "friendly countries" to participate, allowing usage of performance enhancing drugs so that its own athletes can win 90% of the medals.

Then leave the regular Olympics to those countries who don't need drugs to succeed in athletics. I don't want to see any more Olympics like we've seen this year, in 2018 and 2014. Enough!

Tell this to Norwegian asthmatic skiers using doping legally.

And what was the reasoning behind his critics?
Basically, that they should eat properly. Clean. All the nutrients are available, just eat them. A bit like Djokovic (altough I don't know what he thinks of supplements), the body is a temple and should be treated with the utmost care. I respect that POV and I'm obviously to lazy to do it myself.
The athlete I know was famous for going as far as carrying his mattress to the attic to sleep there when they had a high altitude camp. Those 2 or 3 meters made a difference to him.
I guess he felt morally superior, for not taking the easy route. And that can make a huge difference.

That's all fine but these are just guesses. There are 3 situations when we exclude contamination and sabotage: the forbidden drugs are taken with no TUE, the forbidden drugs are taken with TUE, the allowed drugs are taken.

The first 2 ones are not OK with me. First of all these are performance enhancing drugs and the narrative that "the athletes won't be able to compete without them then give them TUE" is the 10th level hypocrisy. If they can't they shouldn't. Second, different countries have different access to TUEs, hence, it's not a fair game per se. 15 Russians vs. 469 Americans in the same year says a lot. But the 3rd situation should be no one's business unless there is a requirement that whatever substance outside the regular food is taken inside should be publicaly reported. I am all for that but it will never happen. The reason is obvious.
I don't like the way that TUE's are handled either. I guess Edmund's doesn't as well. I've written that in another post as well and it has nothing to do with what I wanted to explain regarding Edmund's possible motivation behind her remarks.

Oh I meant more in terms of being able to do all those jumps. Like...you'd need an almost maniac sort of energy to do it. The kind you'd get from cocaine or amphetamine.

But yeah would even the most arrogant dopers do it right in front of everyone like that? Especially since Polina was an outsider?

I wouldn't call her a liar, but she clearly has very strong views among them being that basically the only reason Russian girls can jump quads is doping. I don't think that's true...you still have to have natural talent. Giving some random a drug won't suddenly make them jump anything, let alone quads!
I see. I'm sure those girls thought that the drops were legal and we don't know that they were not. Could be sugar. I take Vitamin D and K drops three times a day (when I think of it). I want my broken bone to heal properly.

But If they use something to increase stamina and/or to shorten recovery, they'd have a huge advantage. And if that's really the case, then the magic, to me as a viewer and fan, is lost.

So it seems Russia will send Kamila to Worlds, and after all why wouldn't they, as she is not suspended. I wonder whether it means ISU shall on their side suspend awarding placements and medals for the Worlds and subsequent competitions with her participation, which would be the only logical move TBH. With the investigation, hearings and appeals going on maybe for months or years, it seems we are guaranteed total chaos.,more weird scenes and inevitable loss of public interest in any of these competitions. TBH I am already losing mine....

When and where are "Worlds"?

Honestly, at this point I won't hold my breath that anything will come of this whole ****show. It was good that the ladies' podium turned out as it did, but it also means that the powers that be will not have that much incentive to run a full-fledged investigation anymore. I predict that in the end Kamila will get a reprimand due to her status as a minor, she will keep her Euro's medal and Russia will keep their team medal (which, I admit, I would be happy about, because I always admired the Russian figure skating style the most).
RUSADA will run a half-hearted investigation at Sambo-70 and find nothing, and everything will go back to the way it was before. Just wait and see.

"In addition to the automatic Disqualification of the results in the Competition which produced the positive Sample under Article 9, all other competitive results of the Athlete obtained from the date a positive Sample was collected (whether In-Competition or Out-of-Competition), or other anti-doping rule violation occurred, through the commencement of any Provisional Suspension or Ineligibility period, shall, unless fairness requires otherwise, be Disqualified with all of the resulting Consequences including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes."

Nothing personal but I just hate agreeing with you about this. Re: Kamila going to Worlds, I guess anything else would have been too much to ask. :(:scratch2:

It's not surprising that Russia intends to send her to Worlds, not at all.

If they didn't send her, that would be an admission that RUSADA lifting the provisional suspension was an error, and by extension that she should have been disqualified at the Olympics, including her scores from the Team Event.

We are WAY past viewing this as an issue of protecting the skater, equitable treatment of athletes, providing the field with non-doping assurance, or even looking out for the best long term interests of the sport.
