100% agree with you. Lindsay and Alysa are the same age. Both are 16. Why they keep Lindsay at junior level for so long? Lindsay should be given senior grand prix, not junior GP last season. If US seriously wants to compete against Russians, Japanese and South Koreans, they really need to let Lindsay to compete at World NOW, not later. It's time to build up her confidence and senior international experience.
Lindsay was really hurt, development-wise, by the COVID outbreak and the total lack of competitions in the 2020-21 season. Her breakout season was the 2019-20 season, where she won Junior Nationals and was assigned to Junior Worlds, but it was clear that she was still very inexperienced. If she was able to compete on the JPG and at Junior Worlds in the 20-21 season, she may have been able to get enough world standings points and show her best to get senior grand prix spots. She was certainly ready for a breakout junior international season, as she placed sixth at US Senior Nationals in 2021, only behind the ready senior ladies and Alysa.

When the 2021-22 season started, Lindsay could have went for the senior grand prix circuit and would almost certainly have gotten a Skate America host spot, but she would have been unlikely to get a second Grand Prix assignment considering her position in the world standings and her total lack of history. I think it made the most sense for her to go for the guaranteed junior grand prix assignments instead, where she has less competition and made the junior grand prix final. Lindsay was very hurt by not having the junior grand prix final and not having a chance to show herself on a larger international stage.

I don't think this is USFS' fault. There just weren't junior international competitions in the past year for Lindsay to gain experience in. But this year, she has had a decent amount of competitive experience, competing at Senior Bs and JGPs. The status of Junior Worlds is hanging in flux right now, and it will be yet another blow to Lindsay's competitive experiences if it is fully canceled. I'm not sure if I would agree with sending Lindsay to Worlds this year though. For one, USFS has already named Amber as the first alternate, so if any of Alysa, Mariah, or Karen were to withdraw, Amber has already been designated as first replacement. Secondly, Amber gets significantly higher PCS than Lindsay does since Amber has been competing for longer as a senior. If Amber has the skate of her life with a triple axel, she can beat Alysa and Mariah, and help the US maintain spots. A clean Lindsay can't do that.

I hope next season, where I expect Lindsay will go full senior, that she will get the competition experience she needs to further develop as a skater.

^ I agree with @dancelion21 above.

Lindsay is an extremely talented prospect, but really needs one more year of experience and growth before a World Championship. Of course, if it gets down to second alternate, she will have to go.

I think if she'd had a normal pre-covid development, she might be ready, but I think her so-so performance at US Nats indicates that she's not quite there. Fifth seems an excellent result - and it was - but really a Top 3 placement was there for the taking if not for inexperience and nerves. She'll be ready next year.

Lindsay has time! I think first would be to control the nerves, make the jumps stable and then go in for the PCS kill.

I remember the first time I saw Bradie I was soooo unimpressed. I'm allowed to say that because I'm such a huge fan now😂

Bradie grew and developed fabulous style. Sassy, expressive. Her jumps are good but I totally watch Bradie for performance value!

With the news that Russian athletes have now been banned from Worlds, if the procedures for Worlds spots stays the same for next year, then that means that the US ladies will have a significantly better chance at maintaining three spots. Looking at Olympics placements, without the three Russians, Alysa would have been 4th and Mariah 7th, which is easily enough for three spots. However, I doubt that Worlds allocations will stay the same for next year, and they might use some combination of Olympics and Worlds results to allocate spots instead.

I still believe that Mariah should stop attempting the triple-triple in the short program and go for a nice, clean, backloaded, triple-double. Her triple-triple is so unstable, and doing a clean triple-double would add at least 3 points to her score from the Olympics. At the Olympics, that would have moved her up at least one placement, maybe even two, depending on how generous the judges are, and that can make a big difference.

I'm glad that Alysa went back to a more reliable layout for the free program at the Olympics. At her Grand Prix assignments, Alysa was going for some strange combos, the 3Lz+eu+3F, and the 3F+2A+Seq, none of which she was doing very well. Going back to the 3Lz+Eu+3S and the 3F+2T was I think, a much better choice. They should stick to that for Worlds, and of course, it was very unfortunate that her 3Lz+3T was just one second ahead of the ten percent bonus. It wouldn't have made a difference for her Olympics placements, but those might be points they need at Worlds.

Yes. I also love Alysa's Olympics layout! Go clean is the best strategy! Hope she sticks the same layout for World. I hope Alysa won't add triple axel back in SP. Correct me if I'm wrong. Fully rotated 2A with positive GOE has about the same base value as downgraded 3A with zero GOE. Alysa never lands a "clean" triple axel this season. We all know that 3A in SP didn't turn out well for Alysa in GP. If she jumped 2A rather than triple axle, Alysa could win silver medal at NHK Trophy. The most important for Alysa is to jump clean/fully rotated triple-triple with correct timing this time. Miss it by "one second" is just a silly costly mistake. BTW, Koari and Anna didn't have triple axel in SP but both of them got medals at Olympics.

Same situation for Mariah. Fully rotated triple+double axle actually earns more points than triple+triple (with fall). For Karen, she should drop triple lutz. How many times she fell on the same triple in Olympics? 3 times right?

Koari/Wakaba is pretty much guaranteed for Gold/Silver. Based on Olympics result, 6-10 is basically tied. Young You, Alysa, Leona, Kim and Mariah could win bronze at World this time.

I think the ISU would allow nations to qualify as they normally would and then figure out what to do with Russia and Belarus later. If American women finish 5th and 8th, there is no guarantee that skaters who didn't attend the event would beat those placements.

Hanna Harrell has been assigned to Edna Spring Trophy (April 7-10) along with Hanna Herrera (for Junior Women) and Stein (?) for advanced novice.

Nice that Harrell is getting an international assignment. It was disappointing to see her passed over for 4CC.
I'm glad to see that, too. I like her, and she showed such promise a few years ago before she got injured. Her struggles at 2021 Nationals were heartbreaking. She looked much improved this year, so I'm glad that US Fed hasn't given up on her - and more importantly that she hasn't given up. :)

China targeted dad of Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu

Yikes, scary stuff:oops:
the article doesn't say what exactly China tried to do, i guess i'm confused. scary though, makes me happy he wasn't allowed to travel with her anyway.

IMO China should have never had the olympics this year, but that's a different topic.

"Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said he was “not aware of the specifics" surrounding the allegations, but said China is “firmly opposed to the U.S. slandering by making an issue of this out of thin air."

“China always asks Chinese citizens to abide by the laws and regulations of host countries, and we would never ask our citizens to engage in activities that violate local laws," Zhao told reporters at a daily briefing Thursday. “The so-called transnational harassment schemes are just trumped up."

ok, Russia.

also, extremely scary alysa was basically stalked at the games. so so scary and im glad she's safe.
