And what skating topics do you discuss or would like to discuss?

I have an honorable intention to stay tuned till the ISU congress in June but, in eight years of my membership, I have never been active in forum off-season and I must say that the forum looks very quiet. What is your experience here? Is it worth staying tuned or thread ideas should better be saved for high season?

Program announcements are already beginning.

Coaching changes and retirements.

SOI is happening, as are other shows.

In the US Summer competitions start in June with Chesapeake, Cannon, and Philadelphia (formerly Liberty). There are Lake Placid Dance and Lake Placid Singles & Pairs. And more

We are talking about buying tickets for GP events and Challenger events

We usually start some threads about the retired greats.

And anything someone wants to talk about is just fine.

I am interested in GP/JGP assignments and once the cities are announced I would love to chat with those picking their trip for hotels and any know-how. Also, ice dance. Anything about ID. It’s the only discipline that doesn’t depress me rn.

I don't know - I think staying off the board in the off season is like being a fair weather friend. I'm interested in what's happening during the off season -as mentioned, coaching changes, partnerships dissolving, new ones happening, retirements, and just general information. And the summer competitions are always interesting so you have an idea of what's coming in the sport. I don't particularly enjoy the rehashing of the last season or the redesigning of programs. Or the woulda, shoulda, coulda stuff that goes on. I realize people like to do that but I prefer to let the professionals do that!!!

Summers are also a time that Fan Fest threads get refreshed and updated.

Indeed, tomorrow is the birthday of one of the skaters I have adopted, and to mark it I am going to give their thread a major overhaul.

The GP announcements come in June, and then it's major discussion time. Even before that, the World Standings get scrubbed of older data in preparation for the GP selections, and that is fuel for discussion too. And of course, we all want to know which countries will host the Russian and Chinese GP events.
This sounds exciting indeed. Thank you for the information!

For me, the main thrill are the GP and Challenger announcements (and speculation). My top favorites are partly underdogs, so I'm always in the nail-biting mode about their chances and the world rankings. This year it's also going to be gripping, like @chuckm says, because of the possible GP host country allocation changes. And we'll likely learn if Russian and Chinese skaters will compete or not.
Then there are major announcements like programs and coaching changes.
All in all, I think I'll keep returning for the news in the summer.
The competition news/threads are likely to be paid again though, aren't they? -_-

That reminds me I'll have to edit the dreadful word 'retired' into Keiji's fanfest opening post  Good thing I can still add his show content as he's a pro now!

I am also wondering what will happen to the events in Russia and China. Are the skaters from both countries banned from competition. If so, how long will it be before the clean athletes can compete.

I find the use of 'clean' unfortunate in this context. I am not a native speaker, but to my knowledge, it is used in connection with doping, and not for athletes unfortunate enough to represent countries whose leaders unleashed a war, or chose not to travel abroad because of drastic covid measures or whatever. Why on earth should these skaters be 'unclean', and why should the Chinese be banned when they pulled out of competitions of their own free will? It doesn't make sense to me. AFAIK, the only one with a doping suspicion over her head is Valieva.

I hope you're right. So many talented athletes from both countries. I worry about cup of Russia for the US athletes due to the US and it's stand on the war. Unless things change, I can't imagine the US athletes being cleared to travel to Russia.
