Now, do you approve of these assignments?

The U.S. is sending the A team form men to the Worlds and 4cc actually only B/A is the only World Team members that are not going to 4CC. I'm surprised Weir decided to go?

Personally, I think they oughta send Kimmie to 4Cs, SEE IF SHE CAN STAY ON HER FEET, and THEN decide whether to send her to Worlds or not......

I am glad USFS did not send Kimmie. Katrina deserves some consolation prize for not going to worlds.
Why aren't B/A going? Won't it be a drop in the world rankings if they do not go???

Only temporarily. Right now, the rankings reflect the Euros results and B/A have dropped, and they will drop further when the 4CC results are added. But all the top dance teams (including B/A) are going to Worlds, and in the ISU column, either the points from Worlds or Euros/4CC (whichever is the higher) are counted, not both.

Not that I think it they care about their rankings all that much, but the answer in any case is "no". As long as they do Worlds, they will get their "ISU championship" points from there. Now, in theory you could say that a very high 4CC placement could get them more World Ranking points than a mediocre World finish, but it's unlikely - 4CC Gold only gets you 840 pts (it goes down by 35 points per placement from there), whereas World gold gets 1400 (and goes down in 50 point increments). Therefore, 4CC gold is equal in points to approx. 8th place at Worlds - and I don't see B&A placing lower than that (knock-on-wood).

The entries are up:

Note that Brodeur/Mattatall are going instead of Duhamel/Buntin because Craig has an injury.
Thanks for the link, Chuckm. I think there will be others besides D/B and Weir dropping out, so the 1st alternates just may get a chance. Remember Sandhu.

Also that link for the Time and Practice Sessions of the ISU can be very confusing even with the explanations of the initials. Surely, someone in the ISU can make 2 separate charts - one for Practice and the other for Competition.

Although I´m glad that Lysacek apparently is participating in Four Continents, I wonder whether it is a wise decision this year? It is rather exhausting to do such long travelling he is facing in February and March, especially as he had a flu and ear infection at the US Nationals. Without the illness I would have other thoughts, because of course athletes have to have the stamina for travelling and competing (just thinking of e.g. tennis players).

I just hope that Lyscek would have plenty of time to train and get into best condition before the Worlds and that he would appear in Sweden without an illness... He seems to have had more than his share of bad luck with being ill while competing. Or maybe he will be in full health already before Four Continents?

I don't understand why Lysacek is going, either. He's already won the event twice, and he's lost to Takahashi twice this year.

For Takahashi, 4CC is a short trip, and it's been 7 weeks since Japanese Nationals; it's a good tuneup for Worlds. For Evan, it's a very long trip only two weeks after a grueling Nationals, and it will carve 7-10 days out of practices just 4 weeks before Worlds.

Weir was smart to avoid that stress.

Because he's an athlete. He's a competitor. Skating in competitions is his thing, it's what he does.

(Now watch Evan make me look foolish by withdrawing. ;) ).

Well, that is exactly my way of thinking also... Only just in this case I´m worried because of his sickness at US Nationals, but maybe he is in good condition already now?

ITA, US didn't send any of their National Champion from other disciplines to 4CC, why men's team would be different? Although I repect Evan's competitive spirit a lot, I don't think this trip worth it.

He looked very sick and exhausted at Nationals, and neither the flu nor the ear injection is something that can be cured quickly, both needs decent time to rest. The long distance traveling and grueling competing schedule will not do any good for his health. Not to mention the well-rested Takahashi is almost impossible to beat.

Evan seems to have lots of health problems in the past, especially during competitions, I wonder why his team didn't learn any lesson from those experiences? Anyway, I still hope he can drop this, spend more time on regular training, and get back to top form heading towards Worlds. Wish him good luck.

But I'm very happy for Jeremy being able to compete in Korea since he missed the World team. He has a shot at the podium.

I'm also eager to see how well all the new faces would do at their 4CC debut.

he normally skates his best when he is skating through something.... Olys SP aside... he blew everyone out of the water IMHO when he came back in teh long...

I don't think he'll have any problems from the USFSA if he were to drop it, but the question is will his competitive spirit/pride let him? With all the controversy surrounding his win at nationals he might feel obligated to go out and skate and try to win 4CC just to say "see I deserve my title"

But as the defending 4CC champion, Evan stands to lose his title to Takahashi, who is well rested and doesn't have to travel far. Tak has beaten Evan at Skate America and the GPF, and will probably beat him again in Korea.

I don't think it's a good thing for Evan to lose to Daisuke again right before Worlds. And if he picks up still another cold/infection/illness from the plane on his long trip, he could be in worse shape than ever.He has everything to lose and nothing to gain from competing at 4CC.

Same thing goes for Jeff Buttle - why not save himself for worlds? If he goes here and doesn't do well it will hurt his chances at placing well at worlds even more. Esp after his GP events and losing his Can Title.
As well why send Mira and not Leslie. Let Mira concentrate on worlds. Joannie I feel needs another chance to try her 3/3 before worlds so it probably is best for her to go. But Mira has no chance of placing well here. She will do well to finish somewheres in 6-9th place.
