Anna Shcherbakova

Hmm, Anna starting to do the TV thing.

Obviously she will bring the same professionalism and hard work to that as she does to her skating.

But, I can’t lie. The other major players that dipped their toes in the water vis a vis television hosting never returned to competitive skating. I’m getting a strange sensation that this might be the beginning of the end for Anna too.

Either way, my love and respect for ShcherbaGOLDa is common knowledge and it’s unabashedly out in the open, so whatever she decides, I’ll be supportive!

Let's don't say it too early that this would be the farewell. Anya's back on the ice less than 3 weeks ago and since the Russians are banned from international competitions this year, it is a good period for her to recover. She also decided to study part-time at the university to have more time in training. And you are right, whatever she decides, we will be supportive.

That’s the same response I received when I said this about Medvedeva last year. Yes I know, these are 2 different people.

Maybe being right about Medvedeva is clouding my judgement.

It will be pretty hard to find a bigger supporter or advocate for Anna on this forum than me.

I can go on and on about her metal strength, her will to win, her hard work, her poise, her class, her being drama and scandal free, her humbleness. Her reliability. About how she is a legend in this sports and an all time great.
I can go on for days. And have gone on for days. I don’t care if my fingers bleed retyping all this.

I can repeat what I said many times before. Sports would be better if there were just male and female versions of Anna in them. That’s the amount of respect I have for her.

And personally, and this is just me talking and I would never speak for her fan base at large, I don’t want to see her back if she isn’t 100%.

Don’t want a farewell tour where she is getting beaten by skaters who otherwise shouldn’t be allowed on the same rink as her.

Or as I said in another post, that couldn’t lace her skates.

I would rather she go out on top and have the last memory we have of her competitively is that of Gold Medalist.

That’s not to say that if she comes back, I’ll be disappointed. I’ll still be here cheering her on.

Whatever she does, whatever road life takes her down, one thing that is true today will be true in 1, 5, 10 and 100 years: Never Count Anna Out.

Man, the tribute post I’ll have when she officially retires will be Anna worthy, I can promise that. And I usually don’t make promises. Haha

Unfortunately, I think it's the last we've seen of as Anna as a competitive skater. She might make a half hearted return with simplified content as a kind of farewell, but I don't think she will make a serious return.

There are a couple of reasons for why I say this, and I dare not utter what they are for fear of someone reporting my posts. I would like to elaborate but I had better not.

The competition is unrelenting in Russia too. Kamila has unfinished business and looks incredibly motivated to make amends, Petrosian has turned into a mature skater and has two wonderful programs, Akateva has lost none of her previous form.

Anna has nothing else to achieve, certainly the most clutch skater we have seen.

Her photo is the one next to the dictionary entry for “clutch”

I love how Zagitova did it, going out on top. Brand Zagitova is strong in 2022.

And because she didn’t stick around for the quad era, her legacy doesn’t suffer because it remained a “what if” situation.

Back to Anna, it’s amazing that as much as the sport is covered in her home country, through the sports and mainstream press, she got through unscathed. There were no embarrassing photos, no social media controversies, and she was able to keep her private life just that.

I can sum it up with this amazing fact. Team Eteri isn’t shy about going to the press. When’s the last time they complained to the press about anything Anna did?
