I know it's just Japan Open, but I think it was important for Shoma to skate at least like this: calm, measured, with no major errors or falls. Especially with the Japan media immediately panicking over Ilia's quads, and Yuma not being there means Shoma is the only one who faces most of the questions about Ilia and how it impacts his preparation for this season (Kao is there too but the context is different). I thought Shoma aced this competition both off-ice and on-ice, he showed off the difference of quality in his skating and performance, and also is very complimentary of Ilia's skills, performance and potential. He really has grown into such an amazing man and skater.
I agree. Yes, a lot of people think of team events as "cheese fests", but I love how it shows that Shoma gets an early start on his programs and then is very prepared for the start of the season with having skated his programs in so many ice shows. Especially with not doing a Challenger this year, this was a good chance for him to feel a little more pressure and work on getting the jitters out of his system. I loved how Stepen said "Very good. Very calm." At one point, he was chasing the music a little bit, but he kept his cool and controlled his energy really well. I was sorry Yuma couldn't be there, but Kao did a great job filling in at the last minute. Actually, Kao should have received a little more love! Who knows, maybe he knew sooner he would participate, but it seemed pretty last minute to us spectators. Glad Shoma was able to experience the Ilia hype and see another rival up close and personal.

Now I'm even more excited for the season to start. Bring it on! And let us bask in that introduction of World Champion Shoma Uno. I still marvel every time I hear it! :points: โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ

I was trying to decide if the shirt was his Time After Time (TAT) shirt. Kinda looked like it, with maybe a few more sparklies? The.Pants..Are.Um. Memorable.
Not sure if the pants (yes, pants again) are the same as the FS pants at JO but with a same colored shirt, the aesthetic is not the same for me as the black pants with the FS bluish sparkly top. The pants look great on him but for me the contrasting, elaborate detailed shirts work better for me. Gravity as a program is so beautiful and complete. Waiting for the FS to be filled in a bit as the season goes on. Stay healthy, Shoma. And onto CANADA!!

It's a good first skate for Shoma, at Japan Open. I don't want Shoma to peak too early but I think it's a very respectable showing, his jumps look solid with room for improvement, not quite concerning. The spins look solid too, which is great especially with the new rules. In the second half he was behind the music but never out of beat, which I always love from him. And the skating is just :love2: love how contrasting the two parts are in the Aria, with the heavenly first part and the furious (tormented) second half.

(Also something that was on my mind... I'm glad his first skate in Japan this season went well, especially after the dating announcement. And seeing him supported well in the arena also warms my heart- the Instagram story from Loena really showed how many Shoma fans were there!!! And the tickets for JO are quite expensive too. I know it's unfair but after he made it official with Marin, any mishaps from his side will affect her too. I'm glad he stayed focused and looked like he just continued where he left last season).
I watched a bit of the interview after when Team Japan got all dressed up. I donโ€™t know if I heard correctly but it sounded like one of the interviewers mentioned Marinโ€™s name to Shoma but I donโ€™t know what was said. He smiled though so heโ€™s happy. Itโ€™s good he has her and all his other friends too. Mishaps? What kind of mishaps could affect both him and her? Both are extremely respectful, well mannered, and kind.

No, he was pronouncing Malinin as "Marinin". It's in Shomagravity's Part 2 of the press conference. They're talking about his challenges for next year. It has the English translation.

Stepen pays a visit to the Uno household and gets to experience some puppy chaos. Sho looks like he is exhausted after his busy weekend! You did good Sho! We're proud of you.

Per the Tree's description: "plans for boot adjustments changed and Shoma will prepare in Japan til Skate Canada. Stephane came over for brush-up session before leaving Japan."

Awwww, Stephane really adores the little Pam ๐Ÿฅฐ

Extra bonus video with Demi and Stephane. ๐Ÿ˜ So apparently Sho will train in Japan until SC. How cool is it that your
coach comes to visit your home and will do a brush up with Sho in Japan. That is what I call a great coaching situation.
The Uno family have adopted Demi and Stephane, I really think they are regarded as part of their family.

Speaking of great coaching situation, hello from Nagoya!!! These three are wearing masks but there's no way to hide those smiles ๐Ÿ˜†

Demi-san (Shoma's trainer) wrote on his Tweet that even though Shoma, Stephane and Demi-san spent so much time together training, they rarely take a photo of just the three of them. So he took the photo during Stephane's rare visit to Japan.

One more photo on Demi-san's Instagram:

This year's annual Nagoya skating festival will be the 20th anniversary. It isn't until January 4, but they have made a very special video showing all the people who have participated over the years. I especially like little Sho! (at 1:30, 2:13) (Scroll down for the video)

Thanks for posting that video. Nice to see them all throughout the years.

Looking at Shoma's boots, I can't help but wonder what shoe size he is. Those feet don't look big enough to support the mighty calves and thighs!!
Haven't seen the video yet, but from what little ice skating experience I have, I have always heard the recommendation that one's skating boots should be a whole size smaller than one's actual shoe size. For instance, I should wear a size 7 boot if my feet are a size 8. Therefore, it is likely to be the case that Shoma's feet are larger than the size of his boots. ;)
