Why ne me quitte pas became so popular in Russia? That was even before Kostner's program.
I remember watching a domestic junior comp in 2016 and it looked like it was sponsored by Céline Dion and Lara Fabian since there were so much programs on their songs.

I mean, there are a few skaters I will allow, but their music should definitely be used a lot less often. And if you really want to use a song by Celine Dion or Lara Fabian, at least be creative with the song choice

Russians are likely to speak French, at least in my time. English was my second, but French was my third and definitely aspirational. Like, you had to speak English, but you wanted to speak French. Even our foreign passports were still in French in my time owning to ‘French is the language of diplomacy’ unshakable conviction from XIXth century.
