2025-26 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 5 - Omsk

Petr: good jumps and solid skate. But he still finishes way after the music 😪 I'm not sure what the real problem is but at this point it's a structural one, he has already skated this SP lots of times and never once managed to be on time

I was lucky to see Petr skate at the Olympic Qualifier. Perhaps it's hard to hear on the tv or in some arenas but there is actually one more tone/note left after the music stops. It sounds like bong or something so Petr "falls down" on that bong.

Finally caught-up with all messages in this thread and be you all forewarned, lots of comments here they come 😄

Nice as always to watch these stages along you all! 😊

Reserves are very likely for them they just need to be clean.

Not sure about the main roster. They are 4th in the standings but it's considering
1) L/G WD
2) P/C bombed
3) Sh/G can do better

Yes, indeed, luck and external circunstancies did play a role in Pavel / Liza results in the stages (went back and rechecked the girl's name because I actually felt bad keeping writing "Pavel and his partner" :) He is clearly the better skater by a margin, but she is not bad at all and deserves better than that 😊). But their own skates are solid, so they have a good base for Nats, and you never know what the external factors will like there. Even if the other couples recover, Pavel/Liza would "only" need to beat one of them to be on the main team; I would optimistically say that can be doable. And even if they "just" reach the reserve, that would still be a very good result for them. Maybe it's me because I knew nothing about this pair before this season's stages, but coming from nowhere (in relative terms and notwithstanding all of Pavel's career and experience of course) and getting into the National tea one way or another it's an achievement to be proud of. Just wishing them best of luck for Nats!

He was so tiny back then, it was funny:laugh:

Is there a video of this? :)

Stanislav Zakharov (Maria Zakharova's father).

Thanks! Oh he is Masha's father? That's a surprise. I didn't know Masha before this season either, but she left me a very good impression, she has a strong presence in the ice and skates with power and purpose. I know her coach is her mum (what group are they in btw?), but I didn't think her father would also be a coach in a different group. Was Stanislav a singles skater? He seems to be sort of a technical coach in Svetlana's group (I'm mostly just guessing this, could be totally wrong) so I guess I would just expect him to also help coaching her daughter

Because it was 5+6.

I see, it's because someone WD. But this WD was known well in advance, so I still find it strange that they didn't redo the warm-ups :)

I'm quite surprised they gave him 7th in PCS.

Average AoP man nowadays unfortunately. His elder brother was much more artistic.

I checked protocols out of curiosity and indeed, full sets of 7,25 and even 7,5 .... I have no words 🙈 We've discussed how scoring this season is stricter on non-Olympic skaters but still lots of random judging get thrown in. It's scaring to even think what they would have give him if it wasn't for the "stricter" judging. And your other comment made me realize that I'm actually not familiar with any other male skater training with Plushenko (that I'm aware of), except for Makar, but of course his skating is not coming from AoP. But if in fact they are actually managing somehow to lower their skaters' artistic level so far below any expectable minimum, they must be stopped AT ONCE. RusFed, listen now, forget about the Olympics and any strategic for it, and the ban and everything else, this is the priority right there! :angry3::p

considering that everyone aside Malinin is imploding he could get silver

Oh Petr.... this is indeed his most realistic hope.... that everyone else implodes.... which I agree, considering the level we're seeing this season, and have seen in past seasons too, it's actually quite possible (though that's quite sad for Men's skating in general but lets not the focus on that here :p)

Can't Russian TV add subtitles on interviews?

100 times this! 😄

He got 38.96 & 80.05 PCS in Beijing. So it's reasonable to assume that he won't score 290 internationally.

Also, PCS scoring is sadly very dependent on the field. In Beijing, there really wasn't anyone else but Petr skating in a somewhat medium/high level. So he stood out more by comparison and, given that there was indeed no competition, the judges were more prone to give him a bit more in PCS scores. That will of course not be the same situation in Milan.

Hahahaha the commentators arguing is hilarious

Actually I was puzzled by this 🤣 First time I remember hearing the commentators overlapping each other and arguing like this. I thought I suddenly had a second video running on the background and that that was where the overlapping was coming from 😅 Who were the commentators btw? (apart from Trankov, saw your message below :))

The commentators were arguing because Trankov refused to tell us what went wrong with the lift "out of respect for the training camp".

This is quite strange tbh. What could it possibly be (that Trankov would know about) that could be disrespectful to the coach team? If the problem with the lift is just a technical one, as has been suggested in some messages here, then for me that's actually good news. You can simply change the lift and move on.

Senior Nationals Men Qualification

1. Mark Kondratiuk
2. Petr Gumennik
3. Evgeni Semenenko
4. Vladislav Dikidzhi
5. Nikolay Ugozhaev
6. Grigory Fedotov
7. Makar Ignatov
8. Artur Danielian
9. Aleksandr Melnikov
10. Roman Savosin
11. Andrei Mozalev
12. Artem Kovalev
13. Nikita Sarnovskiy
14. Gleb Lutfullin
15. Matvei Vetlugin
16. Daniil Samsonov
17. Damir Cheripka
18. Semion Soloviov

S1 Mikhail Polyanskiy
S2 Arseniy Dimitriev
S3 Ilya Mavlyanov

If Dimitriev has two stages, he would easily make it.

No fight comparing to previous season. Those who made it we just much better.

Any hope there would be a place there for Dima? I wouldn't really like it to fall on Semion's chance, but it would be just wonderful news to see Dima back on the ice. Maybe even if he doesn't make it to Nats, I hope they can find a place in the reserve for him as he is fighting with injury. I do hope Dima can get all and any support possible so he gets back to skating

Also, too bad seeing Misha Polyansky didn't make the cut, he impressed me during his first stage, he has very nice lines and a good overall skating.

I was lucky to see Petr skate at the Olympic Qualifier. Perhaps it's hard to hear on the tv or in some arenas but there is actually one more tone/note left after the music stops. It sounds like bong or something so Petr "falls down" on that bong.

To be honest, I believe this is extremely unlikely. You can hear the music very clearly and you also hear very clearly when it finishes. There would be no reason for which you would not hear this extra "bong", not even once during all his performances, and no reason why there would be a gigantic gap in the music before this "bong". Keep in mind that in most cases, Petr is doing basically a full spin in silence.... that is a lot of silence to be the way the music is supposed to be. Most likely, the noise you heard at the qualifier was unrelated to the actual music.

I know I've insisted on this point quite a lot :p and it may seem like just a small problem, but for me start and end poses are really key in how the performance comes across. And in the case of Petr's SP, even more so, because the program itself is terribly empty, so the key moments at the start and at the end are even more important. He needs to find out where he is lagging behind the music (hard to tell as a viewer because both the music and the choreo are just flat) and start the last spin before. He does need to finish with the music :)

what group are they in btw?
She has her own group. She formerly worked in Khrustalny but recently moved to CSKA.

Was Stanislav a singles skater?
He was a pair skater.

I see, it's because someone WD.
It's because of the skater from Belarus in this first group who is not in the results table.

I checked protocols out of curiosity and indeed, full sets of 7,25 and even 7,5 .... I have no words 🙈 We've discussed how scoring this season is stricter on non-Olympic skaters but still lots of random judging get thrown in.
He had 6s at other events, by the way.

And your other comment made me realize that I'm actually not familiar with any other male skater training with Plushenko (that I'm aware of), except for Makar
They all are juniors and novices.

Who were the commentators btw? (apart from Trankov, saw your message below :))
Vasiliy Soloviov

Any hope there would be a place there for Dima?
Unfortunately it looks like he isn't even training yet.

What are you talking about? I literally posted the picture of them next to each other.

Now vs a few months ago, Adeliia grew:

They're not over 5'

Sadkova does not have 4 inches on Gorbacheva.

Zagi is very short, and the girls she was interviewing might've had skates on. She was interviewing them after the practice session. Using Zagi as an absolute metric is useless as she always has different shoes and you don't know if her skater is wearing skates. It's only useful as a relative reference for two skaters next to her in the same setting.

Sadkova is also not taller here... where are you getting an entire inch? Even though it doesn't matter. It was just a relative perspective between her and Akateva.

No
To the question whether Alina wore high heels, she did not:

This is from a different day. My screenshots were from training. She has a different outfit. Her other look likely matched boots not sneakers. In any case like I said her height is irrelevant. It was a relative metric to show Akateva is shorter than Sadkova. That's all.
