Project Runway--Anyone Watching???

Regarding the home visits, did anyone else notice that Christian didn't get to "introduce" Tim to anyone on air? I wonder why that was. Any thoughts?
I just wonder if it was because he lived in such a small apartment or Project Runway just didn't show who he had or if Christian needs alone time to finish his collection.

One of the things I liked about this year's program was all the designers seemed to respect each other. There weren't any major fights like Jeff & Angela last year. The only ones I thought kind of got into it were Carmen and Ricki.

If they could send the final 4 last season, why couldn't they do the same thing this season, assuming there actually was a "deadlock" between Chris and Rami? Why would a deadlock between Jeffrey and Michael send them both, but when the players were Chris and Rami the rules changed?

For whatever reason, they have shown bias against Chris from the beginning. The only challenge they considered appropriate for him to take was the "tacky" (Chris' word) Diva wrestling "costume" challenge, although his Hershey dress and prom dress were easily among the best pieces of those episodes. And the dress that sent him home the first time was absolutely not the worst of that episode.

I wonder if Chris and Rami had switched collections before the judges got to see them, which collection would have won?

Bravo needs to straighten up its act and put some integrity back into this show - if it hasn't already jumped the shark, it is definitely wading in murky waters.
I found this quote over at Bravo and thought it was interesting.

I was for Chris too, but I think he lost it with the human hair. Even though it looked good, it was a bit creepy and certainly noncommercial. They liked the commercial potential of Rami's little dress (which I thought was very cute).

I thought Chris had three powerful, creative designs and Rami only one. Rami's coat sucked and his long gown was average. I really thought Chris's "wildly creative" or whatever they called him would trump Rami's "you listened, you gave us something new."

Still, Rami's great and will obviously be a successful designer (he already is, right?). I'm pretty sure we'll hear more from Chris!

I don't buy the bias story because a lot of Chris's work in the show was not that great. But a personality like that will make its own future.

My guess is that Jillian is going to win....here is my theory. Jay, a male, won the first season. Chloe, a female, won the second season (was her name chloe? She was the asian girl). Jeffrey, a male, won the third season...so now it's a female's turn.

All stupid theories aside...from what I saw last night, Jillian's collections was the most normal and things that I would wear. But...we only see pieces so it should be interesting to see them next week.

I made the same prediction on page 3 of this thread.

I forgot to mention for some reason I think Jillian will be the winner, they have 2 guys & 1 woman, so it's time for another woman.

I hope that is not the case...I really think I would like to see Christian win...although he is only 21, can you imagine what he can do in another 10 years.

I went onto the project runway website and looked at the pictures from the finale. I really believe now that Jillian will win. Christian had some crazy things...one was the neck thing he showed last night..I could not even see the model's face. They were a little more haute couture. Remi's stuff was kind of boring to me.

I thought Chris' collection was better than Rami's by far, but I did like Rami's second dress. The blue coat was totally fug and looked like a Smurf. The evening gown was OK. But Chris' stuff was so much more innovative. The safety pins were amazing. Yeah, human hair is kinda out there, but he "made it work."

BTW, when I saw Rami at Macy's last month, the guy with him was the guy friend in his segment.

"BTW, when I saw Rami at Macy's last month, the guy with him was the guy friend in his segment."

Ummmm, they are more than "friends" dahling...LOL

Yeah, since Chris's was more "out there"....I thought he would get the 3 spot. But Rami's clothes are beautiful and marketable.. I just wanted to see Chris get it because Rami already has a grounded career, studio, etc. I thought Chris's friends apartment was amazing! Although, I don't know if I could live in a museum like that?

I think that they awarded Rami the 3rd spot because his were more marketable and overall, he did better on a weekly basis vs Chris.

personality wise, I preferred Chris.

Re the human hair, it makes me smile, because people are so strange. I read Michael Kors' blog about the episode, and he said when he first saw the human hair pieces, he thought it was terribly creative & that Chris had cut up monkey fur coats from the 1930's. When he heard it was human hair, he was both intrigued and repelled.

Here's the smile. Many people wear hair extensions & human hair wigs. Very few think that's creepy? 70 year old dead monkey fur isn't creepy? to me it is!

We are so inconsistent in our judgments.

"Here's the smile. Many people wear hair extensions & human hair wigs. Very few think that's creepy?"

Very good point.... I know a lot of people who wear real hair extensions and wigs...so how is human hair on clothing any creepier???? That makes no sense whatsoever! Wearing animal skins and fur should be CREEPY....which we all do!

I just hope that's not the reason Chris got bumped.

I honestly think the differences between marketability and articulated point of view were the differences in the judges' eyes between Rami and Chris. I think the emphasis on the human hair was the editors knowing that they had hit a gold mine when Chris decided to use human hair!

As for the human hair being used at all, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It doesn't really creep me out at all (hair in general doesn't creep me out; probably because I come from a long line of persons with long, thick hair that sheds accordingly). At first I thought I didn't like it because it was ugly, but then reflecting on the matter, the hair did move and shine beautifully in a couple of the pieces that were shown Wednesday night. I think it comes down to being too much of a good thing and a personal taste preference that veers toward the classic and away from fringe, cuffs, etc. (of any material). So my final opinion on the use of human hair: not creepy, overdone. I took the long way to get there, but I made it! ;)

Well, I'm not an expert in this area, but I think there is a political dimension in the use of human hair as well as animal fur or skin. Some woman, probably in the third world, has to sell part of her head! or at least you can say, a huge part of her beauty, that will take years to replace, so frivolous Westerners can show off. She's not shaving her head because she enjoys it but to survive economically, so some richer woman can look good. Most likely a middle-person gets more of the money it fetches than the woman selling her hair does. It's not totally unlike or unrelated to the horror of third-world people selling their body organs.

Women who can afford to wear hair extensions do it because they can pretend it's their own hair, but that is not possible in the case of a dress. That is really flaunting another person's body part (or whatever you want to call it). The style is obviously not commercial because it's too expensive. Thus it's frivolous both financially and ethically.

I loved the designs per se and I loved Chris, but I don't think hair dresses were a pleasant innovation. What's next - human skin outfits? I'm sure if we cut carefully we can remove a thin layer of skin from people who voluntarily choose to sell it to us, and it will grow back eventually, so what's the problem? (*sarcasm*)

The appetite of capitalism is infinite.

So it would be better for those women who want to sell their hair to starve and/or do without whatever they plan to buy with the money?

The number of women (and men) who buy hair extensions and wigs far exceeds the number of women who are ever going to buy a high end designer dress.

I don't want to get into the politics of international economics and development now -- there are so many massive issues to tackle there (and I've studied lots and lots of them and only think I know the tiniest bit), I think that women selling their hair is the least of those problems. Far superior to selling their bodies, at any rate.

That said, I think comparing human hair on a garmet (and I've read lots and lots of comments with folks falling on both sides of the issue) to the use of human skin on a garmet (which I cannot imagine anyone approving of for a massive variety of reasons) is pure hyperbole.

But that is just me commenting on the last couple of comments. :) I really just came over here to mention that both Nina Garcia's blog and Tim's Take over at the Bravo site imply that, as expected, it was not the use of human hair, but the lack of "business sense" that ruined Chris' chances.

Second, I didn't notice right away, but others have: Rami did not use the (well made but not very attractive) blue coat in his final runway collection. Blogging Project Runway currently has a great post about whether or not this was fair. Most interesting.

Lastly, for all you Tim and/or Christian fans, both BPR and Bravo also have a hilarious clip of a "walk-off" between Christian and Tim.

I am not sure about a lot of people, but I came from a family that the hair growth rate is pretty high. I cut my hair once a year, and it grows about 6-8 inches a year. If I keep it short, it would probably grow even faster than that. My little boy cousin needs a haircut every month or else he looks like he got a big mop on his head. I don't do anything to my hair, just the regular wash with shampoos like VO5, and then dry with a hair dryer. I know that is what most of my family do as well. We all got thick hair volume too, except a few members of the family. I guess if my hair grows really slow, I would feel different otherwise. But to me at least, hair is just hair. It grows back, it is just there to keep me warm in the winter. I think it is more important to be healthy than to have a full head of hair.

If I remember right, Jane Seymour's hair grows about 1 inch per month. And she's got gorgeous hair as well.

There are any charities that collect cut hair. Hilary Swank allowed Oprah to cut hers off on a show and it was going to be donated to locks for Love.

Some of these charities use the hair for wigs for cancer patients. Others also use the hair to make wigs, but sell the wigs to anyone and the proceeds of the sale goes to charity.

I don't believe there's a big enough market to make it worthwhile to sell one's hair in the 3rd World. Hair has to be a certain length to be acceptable . Even at an inch per month, that's 6 months for only 6". Also, hair is mostly renewable, unlike the black market for vital organs.

Just 2 more days until we find out who won. I have been reading various articles and it seems like it is between Christian & Jillian.

Comments have been made where they think that Jillian's line is more marketable.

One of the best comments is that Christian was compared to Zac Posen.

I am rooting for Christian or Rami.

Dee

It seems like Christian had a lot of the early momentum, and that a lot of that momentum is now swinging toward Jillian. Almost like people were initally blown away by his show, but are recognizing Jillian's quality more upon reflection. I wonder if the outcome would have been different if the judging were now, instead of right after the fashion week shows. I also wonder what effect V. Beckham will have on the outcome. I'm getting really excited for tomorrow night!!

As I said in the other thread, I'm predicting Christian. I'm rooting for Jillian, but don't really care who wins. I think that the three finalists are honestly the three best designers from this season and the three who have the most potential to be really, really successful in the future.
