Hmm, perhaps Shoma is referring to the skating gods which fans often speak of, lol. šŸ˜†

Seriously, though, the insights you gave given me are much appreciated, I had no idea StƩphane was religious...
About Steph, take what I said with a grain of salt … I went back to look for the interview where he says that, and it’s some shady looking Russian website whose source I can’t find (will post the link later if you’re interested, right now I can’t). There’s also a collection of super old fan reports collecting questions that he was asked over the years, and one asks for his religion ( he says he’s catholic). He also wears a cross all the time, for what it’s worth. Anyways, he doesn’t seem to be a ā€œdevoutā€ kind of person, more like someone who believes in a higher power or something.

Edit, found a better source here:
Q: You've mentioned a few times that you're a believer. It would be interesting for me to learn more about your belief.
Stephane: I think I can find a direct connection between the "energy" we talked about before and "God". I know that there are good energies and bad energies in this world, and I see God as this big positive energy. My mother is a believer; she goes to church very often. I go sometimes too. And when I go to holy places like, for example, FƔtima in Portugal I can really feel this energy. I think this energy is pretty much the same for everybody in this world. It's just represented differently in different religions: for some in many gods, for some in Jesus.

Btw, does anyone know how long Demi san and Hama san have been with Shoma?
Demi-san has been with Shoma since the 2017-2018 season at least, where he "shared" him with Satoko Miyahara. Previously he worked as Satoko's trainer, and before that, Takahiko Kozuka's trainer. From 2018-2019 season forward, Demi-san exclusively works with Shoma.

Hama-san... (or Koji Ohama), I think he was already working with Shoma in the 2016-2017 season, but it could have been before that. Shoma signed a contract with his current management company, Universal Sports Marketing (USM) in 2015, so they could have been working together since then. USM is also the management company of Shizuka Arakawa and Daisuke Takahashi, so if Hama-san is part of USM specifically in the figure skating division, he could have had the chance to go to Torino as Palavela was both where Shizuka won her OGM in 2006, and where Daisuke won his Worlds title in 2010. Like he pointed out in the video, Torino is a venue with a lot of feelings/memories associated to it.

Thank you SO much @chaosmyth for the translation. It's really helpful in trying to figure out what they're saying. All I can say is as a fan, I can't ask for a better team for Shoma. He is surrounded by kind and considerate people.

Shoma was just amazing at practice today!! No falls or big mistakes! Just did the jumps one by one. It was great to see Ghislain there as well and he gave Shoma a lot of advice for jumps. They all looked happy and calm!
And yes, Shoma was so beautiful and his skating is just mesmerizing ā¤ļø It feels like I'm in a dream!

I wrote down all Shoma's jumps from practice:

Thank you Vilya for a great report.

Super interesting, thank you!

Btw, Daisuke had been at the 2006 OG as well.

He doesn't look mad. It looks like he has a neutral look on his face.
I think he often looks "neutral" when he gets e.g. a medal on the podium, where the smile seems to be somewhere, but not breaking out.
Maybe they told him to look neutral here for the pics and forgot that they could just say "be happy"
So the "neutral" Shoma looks a bit like a loveable version of

To the beautiful people here, who’s going to watch the short live (online)? And are you going to be in any kind of live chat/discussion? I am usually in the live threads on another site but there isn’t nearly enough Shoma stanning over there, and I don’t want to flail alone in front of my laptop at 4 am 🄲

I'll watch
and there's a GS thread here: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/2022-23-gpf-senior-mens-short-program.94254/

depending on the time, I'll be there too or just watching and reading that later.

edit: to be clear, this is the overall thread where all GSers here praise all the skaters ;) but also lots of  for Shoma for sure.

Thanks for the link! I’m starting to get nervous over here. I wonder what Shoma and his team will do today, since the sp is in the evening…Has he ever talked about his pre-competition routine ?

Part 2 - convo between Demi san (D) and Hama san (H) (manager)
(again this is just the gist. there are some parts I can't understand at all, especially with all the background noise)

They start by saying how happy they are that Shoma could have consecutive victories safely (without injury), and that now it's time for the final.
D says it was good that people could see new growth from Shoma, H comments that this time probably Shoma's experience helped him to stay ahead, but that in the end there were results so that's what matters.
H also says that they really want to get 'the first final' [<-- talking about the gold, he says it in a way that really conveys how long they've been waiting for it and I'm like, asfkjsdh]

D tells H what Shoma told him earlier, about how things went the way they did because that's how they were supposed to happen (he mentions god again, but i don't want to translate it as god's will xD) , and maybe it was because of that that Shoma was able to avoid something worse (injury?). [H seems impressed that Shoma would say that, idk?]

Then they talk about Torino (H san wonders if it's going to be cold xD) and how it's the first time for H san to go to Torino. He also mentions he didn't go there in 2006 [for the olympics i guess? Was he a skater or involved in skating even back then?] He also says that Torino is a venue with a lot of feelings/memories associated to it, and that he's looking forward to it.
D san also says something along the lines that the Torino final might become a competition/performance that really moves people. But at the same time he says they will just keep doing things as they've been doing until now [I guess it's their way not to get their own hopes up too much]

(This is followed by a part about being 'positive' that i don't really get) and then H san mentions the importance of Stephane's care, and D san also adds that he was able to see Stephane's feelings all over again in a different way, and see Stephane's 'coach love/affection" ( ꄛꃅ). He also says Stephane is a wonderful coach.
H san says that between Demi-san, Stephane and himself, they've finally gotten to the point where each of them can play their respective roles (in supporting Shoma) in the best way. Of course, that was true last year too, but this year things (their roles) have really fallen into place.
H san is being modest and says "I'm not doing anything though!", but then he also says that he has finally understood that there are things he can do besides just following Stephane, and at the same time there are a lot of things Stephane has helped him with, so they're achieving a sort of teamwork (all three of them) where they can help each other in supporting both shoma's physical and mental balance.
H san also says that this time he/they were able to talk a lot with Stephane, so it was good.
D san says something along the lines of making an effort to speak english, but i'm really not sure if he's talking about himself or shoma ( probably about himself).
H comments about how it's difficult to translate. He can do it, but there are things he worries about. He can understand Stephane's thoughts/feelings and translate them because he hears them directly, but it's harder for him to convey to Stephane what Shoma and Demi san say, and he's often not sure how to convey the nuance of things [<-- it's normal, Hama san, it's because you're translating towards your weaker language ;; ]
D says that despite everything they're all working towards the same goal, so they still manage to understand each other.
At the end H san jokes that D san should wear a suit in the K&C rather than sports clothes, at least just the jacket on top xD
(at the end there is a note on screen from Demi san that says that normally the K&C is a 'sacred place' so he (who is 'just' a trainer) feels like it's not a place where he should be, but thanks to the generous heart of the athlete and the coach he was able to do so, so he's really grateful)

... guys I really love this team ;_; so happy I attempted to translate this video because my heart is now so full with how genuinely invested they are into Shoma's growth, health and success, and how they're all supporting each other <3
Thank you for your translation. It's good to know they are in Shoma's corner. All 3 of them have made a big difference in his life.

Hoping you have a great sp and fs, Vilya and thank you for the videos and reports. Gives me hope that Shoma is in such good shape and confident. He has a dream team for sure!

I thought you were going to say "...make sure you check its him" šŸ˜ :slink: šŸ˜…
(šŸ¤— )
Yes, checking to see if it's actually him is also quite important! I'm still quite embarrassed about that incident...but I'm trying to look back on it and laugh. šŸ˜… (I definitely interacted with him after the Skate America gala last year, though!)

^^^These videos make me want to visit Shompery more and more. Seems like such a cool place. So happy to see Sho's jumps are looking strong. šŸ”„

Wow, lots of stuff posted today. I didn't watch this whole video, but this reminds me of what a great team Shoma has. They all have the same common goal of helping Shoma to be the very best he can be. He is so lucky to have Demi-san. Still asking if he needs an assistant. (Asking for a friend. LOL). Wait, does Stepen really say "Whose room is this?" :laugh2: Looks a little chaotic!

OMG at 7:00

hilarious
