found this on his semi-official fan page (by family and friends) from February 27th. He also has new skates???? Let's just hope that the blades are ok.

I'm concerned about this too. I remember reading about him having to change into new skates on his Pigs Can Fly fan site. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to now mentally prepare for a first trip to Senior Worlds with only a week notice. Next Friday is the Mens' SP. This is a difficult situation for Evan and Jeremy. I'm sending good thoughts/wishes for both of them!

What a sad news! I'm sure it's a very tough moment for Evan and his team, he worked so hard and is building up great momentum towards Worlds.

Hopefully the equipment issue can be straightened out soon. The competition won't be the same without him.

Get well soon Evan! I'm looking forward to seeing a strong return from you next season!

I think Weir will be in the top 5. Let's see if he could beat less-than-100% Joubert this time. No drama from Weir please!
 
isn't it a little odd that he's having roughly the same equipment issues Franks last male skater had (Timmy)... hopefully this doesn't wreck Evan's back out of alignment! :eek: (if this is the real reason for his withdrawl)
 
The same thing happened to Katy Taylor. It totally messed up her Grand Prix season. In fact, she never totally recoverd.

How low some fans get when a skater is injured and other delighting in a replacement.

I am not a fan of Evan but this news saddens me. He earned his way to this championship and now it is gone. I hope he is fit for another go at 2009.

I just don't understand why skating should have little to no injuries when other sports have them - and pretty much just as many.

there've always been injuries in sport

maybe we should wrap everyone in bubble wrap and make them stand still and not do anything...

considering Evan has fought through injuries and illness for at least the last few seasons I don't think you could really tell him NOT to push the envelope technically.
 
Very sad news indeed after working so diligently and successfully all season long to earn his spot there.

I admire his positive outlook for the future and expect him to return next season stronger than ever, bringing with him all that he learned from this one.

Prayers for a full and speedy recovery Evan! Thoughts are with you!

Yes, that's true, but there is a difference with skating. How many elite basketball players are there in the U.S.? Hundreds. How many elite baseball, football and hockey players are there in the U.S.? Hundreds. How many elite American skaters are there? Just 30 if you count the top 5 from each discipline. So when Evan gets hurt, that's 20% of our elite men.

Sad news about Evan's withdrawal, it won't be the same without him in the
mix. He was so optimistic in his tel-conference about competing at Worlds.. What a disappointment for him and his fans.Wishing Evan a speedy recovery.
 
Well that leaves ONE 2008 U.S. National Champion going to the World Championships. I wish Evan the best of luck.

I've noticed some people being down and out with Johnny. Aside from the Grand Prix Final, he has had a tremendous season. I wouldn't be extremely surprised if he ended up on the podium.
 
Crap!!!!!!! But I am not giving up hope for three US men's spots for Worlds next year. With Joubert injured/sick that moves Johnny up a notch in possibility. And I'm not as certain as others that Verner will shine. If JW does not implode or himself get injured I actually think he could wind up on the medal stand or at least be fourth. I think Carriere could make it to top ten so don't count out the US men just yet. I'm not.

you know I'm not quite sure there are hundreds... considering you hear about a handful of the truly great players every season...

look at football... yeah in the early 90s the 49ers were great, but without Steve Young or Jerry Rice playing, they had a rough go.... when Steve started getting knocked silly and not getting up, the scores were harder to come by... this happens in other teams and other sports...

there are more players in a basketball team, but I think their number of a elite is probably the same basic ratio as skating's.

But Lysacek has _never_ pushed the envelope technically (no matter how you want to define that). He's mostly played catch up using a strong work ethnic and tough competitive nerve to try to cover up his technical gaps. He's maybe pushed his own limits by consistently trying dangerous elements he doesn't necessarily do very well but that's a different issue.

And the purist in me wants to yell that adding more revolutions to jumps is not any kind of technical advancement. It's brute-force advancement and not really doing anything new or different with the blade on ice.

Oh, I feel obliged to mention that I'm not a fan of either Lysacek or Russian D&S but I think it's a real shame they won't be at worlds. Their presence will really be missed.

fine then, he's playing catch up and not pushing the envelope for everyone else, but he is pushing past what is easy for him to hit that extra revolution.

and isn't that the essence of sport - yes skating is an art, but if we want to pretend it's a sport as well he's got the right mindset - the gladiators and athletes of old were using brute strength to get out there and win (be it freedom, life, or olive branches or whatever)

Oh seriously, Evan, I really wanted to see you and Johnny fight it out for a spot on the podium, but heal soon, and come roaring back fighting for next season! (just pleeeeeease don't bring Tosca back with you...)
